I'm seriously considering getting my ribs tattooed, but I have to admit I am more than a little worried about the pain. I have never used anything to help with the pain before, and although I feel somewhat 'ashamed' of even considering it now, I'm afraid using them may be the only way I ever attempt my ribs. Anyway, I was just wondering what some of the options might be, based on others experience with them.

Of course they're totally worth it, it's not so bad, blah blah blah, but I thought it might be nice to have a space to bitch about one's healing in whatever stage it's in, as we all know that all there really is to do, beyond the basics, is wait. Today the tattoo I got on Saturday started flaking en masse. I have never quite seen anything like it with my other tattoos, which usually go from stage to stage much more gradually; it went from nothing to the entire thing (and it's the entire front of my thigh) flaking off at one time. It felt so dry and uncomfortable under my work pants that I kept locking my office door to secretly strip down and give it a little moisturizer. The inside of my pants looks like I'm some kind of dandruff hoarder. Oof. Whine away, folks.

So I know each person is different and sex can also come into play as females are "built" to handle more pain than males. So lets see what the most painful spot is to get tattooed? For me, it was the ribs and right now the inside upper thigh near my well you know. The under side of the arm near the arm pit tickled as I am a very ticklish person but know this can hurt for lots of people. So lets hear it and of course if you've got pictures you know we want to see them!

Ok, I'm sure this will sound ridiculous to some.... But I'm wondering if LSTers have any advice on the best ways to keep yourself still during tattoo sessions? I have three pieces now... One tiny, two medium sized. The small one was easy, but during the medium pieces my muscles would twitch during the tattooing process... it seemed completely involuntary, but I'm sure was quite annoying for my artists. (They may have very kindly pointed this out to me!!) I want more work done and larger pieces. But I need solutions for sitting better first. I don't want to be that pain in the ass client. I've done my research. The pain isn't unbearable, I can definitely handle it. I don't drink days beforehand. I stay hydrated. I take a snack with me to avoid my blood sugar crashing out. I try to relax. Can anyone offer any other advice or strategies? Thanks.

So my longest sitting to date was 4 hours, it was an intricate back piece right between the shoulder blades, and the pain was ok. But now, 20 years later, I have a number health issues that mean that my pain threshold has shifted. A recent chest piece that took no more than an hour was awful. Any advice guys?

I'm getting a lady head tattoo in January, and I've been of the mind to get it on my rib cage. The more I read and hear, the more uneasy I get about that location. I'm not worried about the discomfort, so much as I am the supposed difficulty in tattooing on that area. Is that a legitimate concern, or should a good artist be able to do the same quality of work on my rib cage as he would on my calf or arm? I haven't talked to my artist yet - just thought I would get some feedback on here until I speak with him. In thinking about other location choices, I want this tattoo to be concealed most of the time...especially at work. Don't want back, arm, thigh. Only other options I would consider would be chest or lower leg. If the artist has no qualms, is there any reason I should be hesitant about going with rib cage?

since there has been a lot of discussion about them over at the Most Painful thread, i thought it might be time to set aside a thread devoted to palm tattooing alone. i saw a set that Lizzie did and i thought it was extremely beautiful and elegant despite being so simple (and physically, understandably so!) i would be lying if i said i wasn't jealous and didn't wish that it was on me rather than the person in the picture (and i have never wanted hand tattoos before seeing this!) anyone else seen any that they really love?

Well just signed up for a mega-huge tattoo that will incorporate most if not all of one ass cheek. Anyone have any experience with ass tattoos?

Yeap, you are reading right..... This is it; we belong to a biker club, and most of us love tattoos. The more the better, and we have fun talking about the whole process and what we will have done next. But my friend ( huge football playr guy) has none. So he asked me to go with him to see my artist; cool. Helped him pick a nice skull football theme ; cool. He lasted 20 mtes in the chair; not cool. We are at visit 3 , and the outline of the damn thing is not finished. At first i thought well, i am helping a friend. Plus i had hours of sitting in that chair and did not feel much. But i am getting mad as hell; how can i calm him down? He says it hurts too much (forearm). But he wants ( and needs now ) to get it done or he'll never hear the end of it. You know how bikers are sensitive about teasing... Lol What do you recommend????

I really try to sit still as possible and not make any noise nor weird facial expressions, but when I got my rib panel outlined I couldn't help it. I was involuntarily twitching and grimacing a lot... I guess my question is how do artists deal with this? Does it not bother them at all or what? I always thought it'd be a pain in the ass to deal with, but maybe they can just ignore it? FWIW, I didn't make any noise (moaning) and the artist said I sat "like a corpse", but I hardly think so. I am just not looking forward to having this thing finished in a few weeks. Nor having my other rib panel started.

So this lady came in the shop the other day to get her ribs worked on, and she brought in this lady to hypnotize her.. long story short, it didn't work. Funny as hell though.
