Since Chicago Tattoo has been on the same 2 blocks for almost 40 years we get alot of people who come in with old work from Cliff Raven and Dale Grande so i try to take photos of these tattoos to document them. I often see old timers walking around the neighborhood or in the grocery store and see their tattoos and try to ask about them and photo them, there is just something about talking to old dudes about their tattoos that gets their attention and for the most part gets them into talking about where they got in and when and sometimes they can remember who it was. Im sure we all do this so i wanted to start a little thread and put up pics of old tattoos that we have all documented. The first three tattoos where done at Cliff Raven Studios (Chicago Tattoo) by Cliff Raven in approximately 1970.. since i cant figure out how to make these images larger you can click on them to get a better look. i look forward to the pics Nick

I was killing some time in the city yesterday so ended up at Blackheart as I normally do when I have free time in SF and was flipping through books in their "reference library" and two books that kept me in awe were a Phil Sims Flash Book and a Cliff Raven Flash Book. I saw all sorts of great tattoos I would love to have.....anyone on this forum have any Phil Sims and/or Cliff Raven tattoos and/or ones from their flash? If you have some from their flash who tattooed it? Pictures of course would be enjoyed!

I know most of you are well aware of Mr. C.W. Eldridge's importance as tattooer/historian/historical figure himself, but just wanted to toss up a quick little link to his Tattoo Archive home page which is a phenomenal resource. Just ordered a couple new things from here as well as from Book Mistress. It's so important that histories are preserved but I feel privileged to be allowed access to what will one day be called sacred texts and secret histories..if they're not already. As I'm not a tattooer, it feels extra tough to be taken seriously when it comes to anything tattoo-related –– as it should be –– so I'm just glad Mr. Eldridge doesn't discriminate when it comes to both preserving as well as educating. Also a great quick online reference. Thank you sir. One day I'll get down to NC.
