What is the etiquette for getting a tattoo from an artist in a shop where you have been tattooed by a different artist? I have a tattoo from a very, very famous artist. I just found another artist from the same shop – not so famous, but I love his work (different from the traditional work of the first artist). So, what is the etiquette – I gather the first artist is rather temperamental.

I have one that is about 42 years old - it's in the gallery somewhere, but I can't figure out how to find it. It is a dragon's head and still looks good.

Is that a jessie hopeless tattoo, also? I want one of my dog and have been looking for someone - that is such a great picture!

I just used a combination of tegaderm and saniderm on a large arm tattoo 4 weeks ago as neither were big enough by itself. I couldn't tell the difference when I took them off, so I think you will be fine.

I'd like to show you folks my new dragon tattoo by Horitomo, but I can't get it uploaded to my Gallery, nor can it be attached here. Sorry, I just can't get the hang of this new site. Anyway it is really nice - almost a complete sleeve.

To be fair, I just moved to the area - it would be nice to have a site where all conventions are listed by state - unless this one does and I just haven't found it.

So how did I miss that this convention is happening? I'm 30 miles from there and knew nothing! Sigh!!

I don't have a pic yet, but Horitomo of state of Grace outlined and detailed my 2/3 sleeve dragon on Sat. It is wonderful - actually looks like lace (I'm female and I guess he made the lines delicate because of that)! Makes me almost - almost - not want it colored in. When it is healed a bit, I'll see if I can get a pic of this stage.

Mine don't heal any slower than the one I got in 1976. I got a couple of large ones last summer and 2 new ones this summer and am scheduled for another large one this Feb. (I'm 69).

@Lance - No, I'm getting the dragon on my left arm from wrist to shoulder - we had a little language difficulty at first as I asked for the dragon to be "joyful". We settled on "happy", although from Horitomo it doesn't matter as I'm honored to just be able to be tattooed by him. Lance: "@peaceridge remind me again, are you getting your back done?"

My consult with Horitomo was on Wed! So fantastic - couldn't believe how fast he knocked out the dragon sketch. My first tattoo appt is Dec 26 from 2 to 7. Don't know if I can sit on the floor that long, but I know I can sit for the tattoo that long. So excited, also.

I'm going to try again - as several have said, maybe it's all in the timing. Actually, I'm visiting my son in San Jose next week, so maybe I'll just stop in and talk to them. If they are down to earth as you say, even if their answer is no they don't want to do what I'm thinking of, surely they won't be upset at my just stopping by to chat.

thanks SeeSea and exume, I sent everything you suggested SeeSea. I do understand it is an honor to be tattooed by him and did expect to be put on a 1-2 year wait list. Or, at the very least, to hear that he just wasn't interested in what I wanted - and that would have been ok - it is his time and artistry after all. I guess I was just so disappointed not to even get a "no" email back. Since I'm traveling the country right now, I'll keep looking for a Japanese style artist who might want to work with me. So SeeSea are you getting a cat tattoo from him - that would be really awesome! Of course, anything he does is awesome!

So lucky!! Looking forward to seeing it! rant on: I can't even get them to talk to me - tried calling, they said email, emailed, no answer, tried again, etc - and round and round. I guess I just don't belong to the "club". And people talk about folks not getting tattoos from good artists when the good artists ignore newbees. Sorry, rant over. Have a great experience!

While I'm a very newby, I do have several tattoos. I haven't seen mention of Burt's Bees Hand Salve. Once healed I use it nightly and it seems to keep them brighter than the Aveeno I was using.

Yeah, now that I'm on the west coast, it goes to the east! sigh!

Here's mine. Sorry they are not as clear as they could be as they are on my right arm and I took the pics with my non-dominant left arm. The owl is a cover up of an older owl and is on the inside of my arm; the tiger is on the outside.
