I bought my wife a halter dress (swing-style) from chicstar.com - they have many in all sizes (also strapless), and customer photos modeling them.

And, well you should be! I love ships.

This was the most painful by far (inside of upper arm in that nice, soft, tender white meat). But, I found my "happy place" and made it through with only interruptions for potty breaks (for both of us) and once for me to work out a bad leg/foot cramp that I was afraid was going to make me move under her. In the long run, it only took about 2.5 hours under the machine. This is the first I have had to lay down for, and that was different. She was able to get a cameo of the youngest daughter added, and will add one of the oldest when I get a better photo for her. I'll post a pic when its healed better. Right now, it's still very touchy when the shirt brushes it but still good enough that I could ride the motorcycle to work today. The most important thing - the youngest daughter saw it when I got home, and even with it still bloody she liked it!

In two days I go to Sarah Hurst @ Vivid Tattoo Knoxville to begin work on extending the cameo of my wife on my shoulder into a half (or a bit more) sleeve. Excited, but more nervous than ever before. It will just be a start, because I have to work and had to set the appointment to start at 5pm.

I try to ignore them, personally. Unless intentionally and obviously a racial/ethnic/religious/national/whatever slur, there are too many people inventing and imagining slights just to draw attention to themselves and gain control over others. There are too many real problems with society to worry about reading something into someone's ink.

Although I cover and sunscreen my art on the shoulders and upper arms, I'm not adjusting any more of my lifestyle for them. Never been a sun "worshiper", but enjoy the sun on my skin and getting a nice tan. I don't go out-of-my-way to sunbathe, but if boating, swimming, etc. I'll avoid burns but not the sun. At 63, my skin looks its age, perhaps even a bit more youthful due to my oily complexion. A radiation worker, asbestos worker at one time, past smoker, non-athletic type looking forward to enjoying retirement, not worrying about the odds some insurance company guy calculated.

This afternoon our customer service group is having a gathering at a beer garden in town. I'm stopping off on my way to it at my artist's to discuss working my shoulder cameo into a little more than half-sleeve. I'm debating with myself whether to take my short-sleeved shirt off and go in my black sleeveless undershirt (a nice, athletic-type one). I'll be riding my motorcycle, and with the present 90s(F) we are having, the added air flow with all of my gear on will be welcome. This will however display both of my shoulder tattoos fully. I kind of want to show them off, and since this is an informal after-work gathering, decorum be damned. Still... Oh yeah, us guys think about things like this too!

Good on ya, Emily. I suspect there are more personal (not institutional as it is illegal) prejudices against disabilities than non-traditional piercings or tattoos. You get to enjoy them all! Good to see you bearing them all so well.

Good for you! They don't have to be mentioned on here to be great artists, IMHO. Glad you resonated with him.

I really prefer the black shading vs many shades of color for one reason - I so often see many shades of color use (not always in tattoos) that are not all actually different shades of the same color, and they look very wonky. Imagine shaded red with a sudden purple or orange tint in just one part. Sometimes this is done intentionally and for good purpose (underwater scenes which DO vary like that), but often it just seems to kill great art to me. When shaded with black it doesn't change the original tint.

Yeah, it was life-changing. I feel like I'm more... ME! Although I wore long sleeves for the first few months, it wasn't to hide a tattoo - it was to hide what I considered to be a BAD tattoo. After I had it re-worked some, I could accept it and show it. The execution is a little darker and a bit crooked with orphan bits, but maybe that depicts me better. My next will be upper arm half-sleeve, but I've already told the artist to try and extend it down a bit below the elbow, at least in part.

And, Columbia to Knoxville (even with the delays across the French Broad) is only ~ 5 hours. I'd recommend Sarah Hurst @ Vivid Tattoo in Knoxville Instagram @vividtattooknoxville. She does great cover-ups. Her internet site and email is down for maintenance, but her Facebook is up (Vivid Tattoo) and you can message her through it.
