Most any job is a grind at times. Otherwise, it's a hobby. Tattoo artists spend 8, 10, 12 hours a day hunched over a customer or a drawing board. Work is work. If you feel that your talents lean towards this vocation, then develop the skills and experience for it. You want to be a mechanic? - train with mechanics, not people that just love cars. You want to be a tattoo artist? - get an apprenticeship or go to art school and then get an apprenticeship. We can tell you if we like Your sketches, but that's about all. I teach a highly skilled engineering job. It's amazing the number of students that come in wanting to be cyclotron engineers with no knowledge of math, science, mechanics, or electronics. Get the basics first!

Mike Panic is giving good, experienced advice. I'm getting laser to lighten a tattoo for reworking. He has been very helpful in his guidance. I'd like to suggest shopping around for laser. Sure, the low price shop may not be the best course, but the high priced are not necessarily the best. Check facility, ask questions of the exact procedure, etc. The first one that I went to was WAY over-priced. Several others that I called were not responsive to questions. One nearby was in a tattoo parlor - not bad as they know what is needed. But, it was a tattoo parlor/head shop so I didn't even check them out. I ended up with two good candidates and went with a dermatologist for two sessions and will finish with another dermatologist. The ones I ended up with are 50 - 70% less costly than the first. If you are near Allentown, PA, check GO! Tattoo Removal (Mike's place) as they have great pricing and experience. It's just too far for me, or I would have used them.

Well, I don't have that many tattoos. Seven visits (4 join as a half sleeve, I guess.) Honestly, I know there was pain, but I don't really remember it. I DO remember the pain from my bike wreck, though!

As part of my final year with my employer, I am to let the other instructor take over all teaching duties unless he asks for help. Problem is, I'm just not happy with the way he does it. He doesn't know the basic theory of the machine, teaches very inaccurate information, and is quite rude to the student in taking phone calls in the middle of lectures. He has been going through a divorce this past year, and is becoming a major drama queen, talking loud on the phone with his lawyers and others, all within earshot of the students. Now, these student's employers are paying between $550 and $1800 a day for the classes. Stresses me so much that I just have to go walk around the factory to not hear it. (My cube and his adjoin and are in a corner of the classroom.) This looks to be a looong, shitty year. Manager wants someone to go to Moscow for a while. Maybe I'll check into that.

Thinking about tattooing my fat belly. Good/bad idea?

I thought we were waiting for YOU to get inked so that WE could all ogle together. -
In this thread, we commiserate about healing our fresh tattoos.

Stock up on your Dial Gold now. FDA has banned most anti-bacterial agents, saying they are no more effective than regular soap and water. They want clinical trials, which of course will drive up the cost, to prove any of them. Hand sanitizers next. I like Walmart foaming soap which has triclosan, one of the banned agents in it. Think I'll buy a few gallons. May be no more effective than bar soap, but is easier to use and makes less mess at the sink. -
Oh. That IS bad!

I'm kinda glad that Comcast took Spike off our package.

And people will wonder why you are slapping your shoulder. -
That initial ashy look is called "laser frost". My dermatologist waited twenty minutes for it to go away, then did another pass. I worry that the other methods are untested, unapproved by FDA, and so far seem to come-and-go regularly.

Great ink,@Devious6 - I hope it helps in your healing.

Have to admit that I had a piercing about 4 months before my first ink. The healing wasn't bad, and I still really like it. Pierced @14g and eventually stretched to 8g, it settled in nicely.

FDA Bans 19 Chemicals Used In Antibacterial Soaps
pidjones replied to PinkUnicorn's topic in Tattoo After Care
91 pages to say that FDA decided clinical studies are now needed for approval. In other words, they would double the product price. They once used bacterial reduction on skin standards, but that didn't cost the manufacturers enough. -
To some extent, heros are victims of circumstances. But, they must be willing to act on their training and care for others more than themselves. My deep gratitude for your service that day, and your entire career is my award to you.

Thanks, folks. This morning I'm learning of all of the other places that bang when you tumble @45 mph. Even have rug burns in places where I was protected from real injury by the armor. Brand new armored pants, first and last day to wear, but they did their job. Jacket was almost a decade old as well as the helmet, and they both worked well. Knuckles sore and light scratches from hitting the inside of the hard protectors. Boots scuffed and left ankle protector bruised me but did its job. Most pain and discomfort is under left scapula, where I probably damaged some soft tissue because I think that shoulder hit pavement first. ER doctor was interested in my lasered tattoo and just had to take a peak. It is fine, though.

Wrecked my GoldWing this evening. Really lucky to just have bruises and a cracked wrist. Heavy I-40 traffic downtown Knoxville, looked to right lane to make sure it was clear to move over as my exit was coming up. Someone cut off the SUV in front of me meanwhile, and when I looked back he was getting large FAST. Grabbed too much brake and went down, rolled, Didn't know about injuries, so I laid there (guy behind was alert and giving me space). Took the ride of shame to the ER and outcome is just a lot of bruises and a cracked wrist. Don't know about the 'Wing - hauled by wrecker and I'll check on it tomorrow. Probably totalled. Doesn't take much on these to total them. And I only had 105k miles on the Black Pearl! I'm really not hurt badly because of divine intervention and wearing all the gear all the time. Helmet worked (ruined), gloves, boots, brand new first-time worn armored pants - all but the boots ruined saving me inside. So, shitty because of a little pain and expense and probably loosing the 'Pearl, but awesome for limited injury and the love shown by family and our minister, who drove Judy to the ER to see me and brought us home.

The first one in a not-so-visible place would be Ok. Pretty plain for major placement. Check out@isotope - he has a full AMS rig. I've been in Nuclear Navy 8 years and particle accelerators 36 years. I don't have any science-related ink.

All stitches out but one today. Vet says he is healing well. One week and he gets the other stitch out.

Tegaderm/Saniderm/Tatuderm healing process
pidjones replied to Bigboy67's topic in Tattoo After Care
I wouldn't be concerned by the animals, but the rides are germ havens. -

An update on Rocky. He is healing well, but still seeping badly from under his left armpit. He wears a tee shirt to keep him from scratching that area with his hind leg. He only has to wear the cone about 25% of the time, when it is pretty obvious the itching is really bad - so we rub for him. I don't think smacking is the right thing for this kind of itch!
