A buddy of mine who owned a shop on the 'Trail in Orlando used to shoot any new gun he bought in the shop, so he could know how loud it was indoors, should he have to shoot someone.- 31 replies

Maybe it'll get tossed in a blender and be old timey doom metal biker antique collectors? -
anyone got some drawing tips?

As probably the best illustrator on LST (see my epic "squidpants" and try not to be jealous) I have a ton of advice.... Draw outside of your comfort zone. I used to draw every day and while I was never a spectacular artist I was able to successfully draw things that looks mostly like intended. As my carpal tunnel got progressively worse and I drew less and less, I'd find myself guilty of 'doodling' and Stewart is right... it's a much different exercise. Now... I draw weird little scratchy things that look like... squids. -
Considering seeing 'Young Adult' today. I'm not really a Diablo Cody fan (her ability to make every character sound like a bitter ex stripper gets old) but... there's nothing else playing that I want to see. Hah. Anyone see it? I hear Patton Oswalt is great in it.

I think it's my same list as last year: 1. Palms 2. faces junk. -
I use the Morimoto method with steaks- I get a dry aged ribeye, put the cast iron skillet over a high flame and let it sit. And sit. And sit. Little oil (he uses rapeseed, I use whatever I have on hand) until it's smoking- then I cook it about two minutes on each side. Crispy on the outside, raw in the middle.

Perhaps this is my film snobbishness rearing it's head, and really, it's more about clarification than anything so forgive my nitpicking... but I have to throw out there that it's not a remake of the Swedish version; it's an American adaptation of a book that happened to be made as a film in Sweden. Did it 'need' to be made? Maybe, maybe not. But the film is it's own entity. One could argue that the Swedish movie didn't need to be made, that the book on it's own is enough. Fincher is a talented dude, and putting his lens (pun intended) on the source material was great. The book still exists, as does the Swedish version, for folks who love them. (I just got into an extended argument about the Fincher version at work, and I'm still all fired up! :D

Pictures of old photo realistic/ non-outlined tattoos?

I have a 20+ year old Aitchison piece that has parts with no outlines. Looks as good/better than some of my other older work -

I was in Pittsburgh, PA this week and ended up at a MEGA grocery store called "Giant Eagle Market District". I think Giant Eagle is a chain, but Market District marks it as a more upscale Wegmans/Whole Foods kind of joint. They had black truffles, and I mean pungent little fuckers, for $12 a pound. In Philly, they're between $300 and $600 a pound. I shit you not. It must have been a mistake on their part. That said, I picked up a handful of the som'bitches and packed em in rice for the ride back to Philly. I also picked up a pound of python meat. Just cause... seriously... how can you not? I made use of a few of the truffles tonight in a pork sausage. Porcini, Crimini and Black Truffle with majoram, black pepper and parsley. I'm letting them air cure right now for the casings to tighten up a bit, but lordie-lou they're already nice and pungent with that amazing fungi odor. I saved two truffles for either mac'n'cheese, deviled eggs or steak & foie gras. I'm going to have my friend up there stalk the fungus section and if they stay $12/lb, have her stock up for me!

Armbands that connect are bad luck. Variation: Armbands that connect can cut off the circulation and your arm will fall off. Face/hand/neck tattoos are illegal. I always feel bad posting right after Stewart. He goes into so much detail that it makes my two sentence posts seem lazy. Perhaps by mentioning this fact it will add a little bit of 'meat' to my post and make it seem like I have more than a ten word vocabulary.

If he were tattooing a bear, PETA would be all over him. A gay bear, and he's probably just going to get tipped well and possibly hit on. Story of my life.

"Tattoo what you want", misleading or true?
ShawnPorter replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I feel like I've done something wrong if the tattoo I end up with looks too much like my mental picture of it. That said: I tend to go in with abstracts; I'll throw out words and just keep riffing with the tattooer until it's a nice blend of my concept and their execution. I'd never say 'do whatever you want' because that could end up badly. If I tattooed and someone said that, there'd be a LOT more badgers and turkeys in the tattoo world. And lots of dicks. -
Finishing my stomach with Koeplinger. left thigh Christ in the wilderness piece with Robert Ryan. Butt cheeks with Rick Lohm.

Hand and/or neck tattoos but nothing else...
ShawnPorter replied to Lochlan's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
That doesn't really make much sense to me. Question his motives? His motives are that he wanted a particular aesthetic. That aesthetic had symmetrical pieces starting on his hands and going up onto his wrists so when put together it looks one way and singly it looks another. It was all planned out; like some of the ThomasThomas work that has different flow when everything lines up. Having sleeves would change the dynamic. I'd never be so bold as to tell someone their arms aren't "complete" until they have their hands done; or that unless that have 5 or 6 designs united by stars and dots (or conversely a single design Japanese piece that took up the whole arm) that they're not 'doing it right'. This dude wanted tattoos that work with his body and had things more planned out than the willy nilly slap it here aesthetic that I employ. Hell, there's a thread here called "areas of the body that you WON'T tattoo". I'm sure arms don't come up that often, but who the heck are we to say that someone 'has' to get something to remain legit?
