  1. @CShaw do you really want the cord to stand out, or be harmonious with the rest of the peonies? The teal would be nearly opposite on the colour wheel to the pink flowers, so the colour would be really defined against them. A deep red cord would blend into the background a little more. Iboersonally like the idea of using teal, but I like lots of colours.
  2. I don't think misspelled tattoos is going to become a style any time soon. 'Hey man have you heard of so-and-so?' 'Oh yeah he's the one who specialises in the really kickass misspelled tattoos!'
  3. Have you talked to a tattoo artist about this idea? I for one think it could look very cute; and your idea isn't terribly specific so I good artist has a decent amount of leeway in terms of design. If you do get it done, ai'd love to see it!
  4. I had only a small tattoo on my sternum recently so I justtried to breath through the pain, but felt like I was being stared at by a print of Marylin Monroe on a partition screen three inches away from my face.
  5. Far from a realistic tattoo, but I thought this small story would suit this thread. My friend recently got her first tattoo (in a kitchen, where the guy was apparently taking bong breaks - but we'll speak no further of that) and when she showed me I noticed the whole small celtic symbol was done in light wash shading. I commented that she was likely to see very quick fading and she said yes, that that was what she wanted. Does she realise that a stick on tattoo might be the better option so she wasn't left with a little grey blog over time? But then again, she made the conscious decision to get in done in a kitchen, so I'm staying out of it.
  6. Walked into Melbourne Tattoo Company today with some sketches and a very specific ideas in my my head, but was struck by all the amazing handpainted flash by all the artists in the shop - have never been into a tattoo shop with all the artist's work actually up on the walls before. So I picked a flash piece by Josh Sutterby and asked for one small tweak (I have been a lot more controlling and picky over design specifics in the past, so this is a nice change for me) and am much more excited about getting a tatto than I have been since I got my first one done! Booked an appointment for early May, which is when I'll actually have the funds, and am already looking firward to a lot more flash pieces (with no tweaks) in the future. That shop is an absolute gold mine.
  7. It seems to be a trend amoung guys I know (most of which have no tattoos at all) to have a go at me when I say my tattoos hurt, in some sort of effort to inflate their sense of manliness haha. For most the pain was easily bareable, sometimes it was actually very dull and easy to tune out. Just because I wasn't screaming and crying doesn't mean it didn't HURT - the pain receptors in my body are in good working order, therefore a little needle stabbing thousands of time into the skin does hurt! Its all part of the process, and not something to be embarrassed about.
  8. I'm loving big cats at the moment, this is awesome work. Keen to see it when its finished
  9. Was the irony in your friend's tattoo intentional?
  10. Had my first tattoo nightmare last night. Dreamt that my boyfriend somehow got a tattoo machine, and I allowed him to tattoo some terrible tribal tribal and portrait work all over my hands and forearms. I then got so upset that I tried to scrub them off with steel wool...ouch.
  11. Reviving this thread to tell a bit of a story. I live in Australia where no one really tips anywhere for anything (got a lot to do with our minimun wages being higher than some other countries as far as I know); however, I believe that tipping an artist is perfectly reasonable if you want to support their wkrk and craft. Anyway, I went into a shop a few months ago for an appointment, where they keep a decorative sign on the front desk of a pinup model with the words 'tipping is classy', but when the artist finished and told ne the price, I tried to give him the amount I had brought with me, which ended up being $20 - $30 difference because I was happy with the work, and the artist (politely) refused. Is he aware of the irony?
  12. @six times seven That is the beauty of this forum, I don't really know anyone in person who is into good tattoos, or even art in general, but here you can feel like people really understand what you have to contribute. My boyfriend is indifferent to tattoos - thinks he might get one one day, but doesn't really enjoy traditional styles - my advice would be to find other things you have in common, and talk about those together :).
  13. I have two crystal tattoos, and planning on getting some more roses (thinking matching on the feet). I agree with what has previously been said, another artist's interpretation will produce an entirly unique result anyway.
  14. Just updating to say that I decided to go with it. I had an unhealthy relationship with my ex in which I would make every personal decision about my appearence or otherwise based on his approval and opinion, and I lost a lof my self-respect (and independance) that way. This is something I have made changes to ever since, and while the dymanic had definetly changed for the better with my current partner, I decided that I really didn't need his approval for something I really wanted. In talking to him, I realised that he was a little nervous about the change, but I have changed things about my appearence since we've been together that he has been suprised about, but quickly loved. So, in short, I got my crystal, and he will still love me because I am the exact same personbas before (with a little more colour). @Coloredguy just adding to say that I'm sorry for what happened.
  15. @Kimmie could be. I remember freaking out and wondering if I should just take it out. Of course by the next day I was fine haha.
  16. I would spend the night after every single piercing wide awake wondering what I'd done, but I've never had that experience with a tattoo, not sure exactly why, tattoos are more permanent. As has been said before, the brain is a wierd one.
  17. The difference between artwork and designer brands is that a good artist who puts effortbinto and cares about their work doesn't necessarily charge an outstanding amount. And also that a bad/careless tattoo artist may not clean equiptment properly and provide a safe environment; but it is quite unlikely that you'll contract hep A from shopping at Target.
  18. I feel like getting one of those life rings tattooed with the phrase 'refuse to sink' just to amuse myself.
  19. Thanks for the thoughtful responses :). I think this might be a step for him because my other tattoos are on my legs, not near such an 'important' area haha. @pidjones I think it is the placement that is his main concern, as I already had two tattoos when I met him, as well as my septum and several other piercings. I've never really looked 'plain'. His mum is a little conservative but his family wouldn't really affect anything like that. And thanks @marley mission, it sounds like a good idea to have a discussion about exactly where is issues with the tattoo lilye and hopefully we can work something out. I definetly have plenty of other ideas that I can focus on first haha. @scubaron I got my first tattoo on my birthday in August and I have three now, I don't think it's excessive if you have lots of ideas; I have so many ideas that have been going through my head for ages and the only thing slowing me down is the funding.
  20. I recently expressed the desire to get a small traditional style crystal tattooed on my chest, pretty much right in between the 'girls' to my boyfriend, and he scrunched his face up at the idea. When we met I already had two on my thigh, and recently got another above my ankle that I had planned since before we started dating. I have always planned to keep getting tattooed, and never really considered his opinion before when it came to getting them (it is a relatively new relationship and I have only recently begun to discuss ideas with him). I feel the way that others who have posted on the subject do, that while I retain ownership of my body if its something he's going to hate looking at I don't want to cause a rift, but at the same time its something I really wanted to di, even before I met him.
  21. Rubbing will be your main issue. I'd aim to go braless at home whenever possible, but fir riding, you could weat a singlet or crop under the sports bra to reduce rubbing and if possible wear a bra without underwire. I've so far only had leg tattooes but I've found that I could wear tight clothes for short periods of time as long aa they wern't rubbing; as tight clothes does cut off the air but eunbing irritates the slin and new tattoo.
  22. @CultExciter just checked out his work on the website, I'd love to get a bigger piece done by him in the future. Thanks :)
  23. My latest, first in a few months. Small piece but so nice and easy to sit for. Done by Jovic at Eternal Ink in Sunbury, Melbourne, Australia. I seem to be leaning towards the idea of filling up my legs with lots of small pieces rather than one large cohesive one. @ItsNewport that is an amazing piece, can't wait to see more progress on it.
  24. Thank you :) this was taken from a picture of my own pug. I didn't want a realistic portrait, so I went with the neo traditional sort of style; its captures her unique face without looking like a have a photo taped to my knee haha :)
  25. My pug the day I got it done, first tattoo :)
