Anyone who follows me on Instagram has seen this, but here's a little teaser shot of my arm from Grez. I said from the beginning that I wasn't going to post progress shots much because I love that feeling of just seeing the whole completed piece, and I'm amazed I mostly stuck to that. Haha. Now that next month is likely the last sitting, I can see end in sight and can't wait to share it.

I'm new here and figured I'd post some of my favorite pieces I've gotten over the last ~year or so:
Aaron Hodges at Spider Murphy's did both my thighs:

George Hernandez at Sacred Tiger did my forearms and bicep:

Jay Watkins (frog) and Laurent Trelaun (ship) at Spider Murphys:

And then a couple fun ones from Jeff Rassier and Alex Petty:

Hopefully this wasn't too big of a photo dump for everyone! Looking forward to upcoming consults/pieces with Paul Dobleman and Theo Mindell at Spider Murphys as well.

I've been tattooed by dozens of people, and I wouldn't trade those experiences.
That said, after seeing this arm by Paul Dobleman, I wish I had given him a full limb:

I have nothing important to contribute. I like all of you guys. Even when we don't get along.

I'm not sure I understand your point here. Eddy Deutsche is a traditionally trained tattooer who had also branched out in subject and style but keeps within the technique. Also the credo isn't exactly "traditional is better" it's "bold will hold."
I don't know. This thread has gotten kind of ridiculous. If you have a chip on your shoulder, don't engage other users in a negative or confrontational manner, go start a thread that promotes positive information and education on the tattooing that you like.

This right here. I followed Hurtado on Instagram some time back, and like you was originally blown away by the technical application. But after a while -- you nailed it -- I just thought, if I wanted to see an ultra realistic depiction of Darth Vader, then why not just look at a photo of Darth Vader? Why even bother with a tattoo if there's zero artistic interpretation to it?

I'm impressed by the technical ability of color portrait artists like Nikko Hurtado or Paul Acker, but a tattoo of Capt. Jack Sparrow or Catwoman, no matter how perfect, doesn't make me feel a thing.
But that's how I judge all art -- not by how well someone can paint something that looks "lifelike" (or, in the case of music, how fast Yngwie Malmsteen can shred) if it has no soul. I'll take a Neil Young solo any day.
I love how the best traditional tattoos can distill the essence of a thing with so few lines, and the more I look at tattoos, the more I can appreciate it. Strong, powerful images is what does it for me.
No one would ever say Picasso is a bad artist because his paintings are "simple" or don't look "real."
People can like what they like, but bashing traditional tattoos just makes the one saying it look kinda dumb or at least uninformed.

Kind of tough to make out what goes where from this picture. It's the ball and chain. To give you reference, the girl head is above my elbow ditch.

Yeah, it can be tough. I had space down the back and at the top, so we had the snake come up to a shoulder cap. The snake writhes in and out of my arm to match the skin rip by my elbow, and then is coming out of the smoke plumes from my skull on a pile of shell casings. Tied it together very well luckily! Sorry for the crappy pic.

Eddy Deutsche cover/blastover from a couple of weeks ago in Oslo (Marius Meyer studio). It was such a fun day, so cool! Also met the legend Carson Vester. He told us some crazy stories!
Who said he had lost it?

I've been avoiding my ditches as long as I could, but a few sundays ago I decided it was time. jason ochoa at greenpoint tattoo put this rose in there and now that it's healed, I'm stoked to do the other arm. it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I expected and it was pretty much healed within a week or so using tegaderm. definitely a believer in that shit. if there's a thread discussing that stuff, let me know and I can share my experience.
    anyway, here's a healed pic:
