  1. Hey Dari- that's the sister restaurant of the catering company I work for. Same owners. The food is SO GOOD! MMMMM. Bringing leftovers home from work rules. For the carnivores out there the charcuterie is really good from there. For all you vegan folk Saturn Cafe opened right across the street from Gather too and is good easy vegan/vegetarian diner food near UC Berkeley.
  2. Ate at Farmer Brown in SF a couple nights ago. They used oxtail in their french onion soup. GOD DAMN that was good. Their pulled pork sandwich was pretty tasty too. Neat place And a hell yeah to Gran Torino too. Great movie.
  3. I think this question and the personal variation I ask myself "where do I want to be 1 year from now and what are the steps I need to take to get there?" are both super helpful for keeping from becoming stagnant. In a sense they're the same question- you could easily die in a year. I find the 1 year thing a lot easier to focus on though personally. I can create small, workable steps to take towards my bigger goals that way. Currently my 1 year list includes: -Write and record an album I'm completely happy with -Start to create some form of autonomous self-employed income, no matter how small -Continue to work on becoming a more balanced and happy person who contributes positivity to people around me -Take a vacation -Read at least 2 challenging books a month I love these sort of questions. I'm always a little bummed for someone who can't think of things they want to do because it makes me wonder what they're living their day to day lives for. I know if I'm not working towards something I feel like I'm floundering.

    Sons of Anarchy

I've been avoiding this thread for this exact reason. With the combination of cutting our cable recently and finals week approaching for my girlfriend tv time has been minimal in my house. I can't wait to catch up on season 3 all at once by having a tv veg out day soon...
  5. I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. Complaining about what a good artist costs or consciously going to an artist you're not stoked on means you either don't value your body or you don't value your time/money considering you're probably going to go get a cover-up or laser later. Either way it's a shame. On a more positive note for this thread, I did find an awesome Mediterranean restaurant by my house I would have never found out about if not for Yelp. I bike past it on a regular basis but it's hidden down an alley behind a bar and is amazing!
  6. I'm craving but don't have any of it at the moment and figured this was the thread to post it in... DEEP FRIED BASIL!! Get into it. Totally different flavor and texture.
  7. Perfect example of why Yelp is irrelevant to the tattoo industry... I just looked up Blackheart's yelp page because it's the shop I've been tattooed in most and am most familiar with as a client (which should matter for a yelp review...) There is a one star review where someone is complaining about the pain of their tattoo. Really?!?? The same person felt they were overcharged but rather than say something at the time of the appointment, they called to discuss it with the shop helper later. That's like going to Best Buy, buying a TV, and then calling them two weeks later saying you saw a smaller, lower clarity TV at the pawn shop and want a partial refund on your big shiny new TV. Makes no sense at all! Yelp is nothing but an outlet for complainers who want to feel empowered. Don't get me wrong, I've used it sometimes, but only for new food places and ALWAYS taking the ratings people give with a grain of salt. It's not difficult to read a little bit and see who knows what they're talking about and who's talking out of their ass. Side note, my employer was hired by Yelp recently and all the attendees of the event (who were all the top Yelp reviewers if I remember correctly) were some of the most savage guests we've dealt with. Go figure. In short, the passive aggressive keyboard heroes reign supreme on Yelp and it's sickening what a little power does to a whiny person.

    Man Vs. Food

God I love this show!!! Can't watch it before bed though because I start getting hungry and have to get out of bed to go cook. Have you noticed how much fatter he's gotten in the new season? It's starting to catch up to him for sure.

Chuck's solo stuff is great. I'm really stoked on Chris Wollard's new record too. It's really really fucking good. With the exception of A Flight And A Crash, I think I like both of those guys solo stuff better than together on Hot Water Music. PS - busy weekend and bummed to have missed Lucero last night. I love the Great American Music Hall too.
  11. Awesome. I'll bet the school band even plays on these basses:

yes and yes. amazing. singing along to Toby at the front of the stage while the douche in the green "irish" themed shirt RIGHT NEXT TO YOU AT THE FRONT OF THE STAGE stares at you is rather strange though. Do not like. There are some things I'll never get I guess and damn Kenny- 97 they hadn't even put out a full length yet then had they? Crazy. That would have been rad to see Mike singing over those songs.
  13. haha we usually buy butter from Costco. just saying...

Even when the guys in Lucero are so hammered they can barely stand up it's still entertaining at least. I'm contemplating going to the Bedouin Soundclash show at Slims on 12/7 but last time I saw them the crowd was a bunch of bros and made it extremely unenjoyable. It's like seeing the Dropkick Murphys nowadays. Used to be a ton of fun for me but the last two times I've gone and felt awkward and out of place at their shows. And feeling awkward and out of place somewhere you used to have fun is just a bummer. Also, the main reason I saw Dropkicks last was because H20 was direct support. It was fucking amazing to see H20, but ridiculous how many blank stares they got from the Dropkicks bro crowd. Ugh.

    BEARDS!

that telecaster more than makes up for lack of beard in the photo! love telecasters. I just recently got a strat that's the opposite color scheme (black body and anodized silver pick guard)

  17. what's the deal with the B9 board? I love the label but don't really do message boards much (and yes I realize I'm posting that sentence on a message board :/ ) As long as we're discussing hardcore and bridge 9, Ceremony's newest record fucking rips. soooo good.
  18. Goddamn. No way I can justify dropping $28 on a shirt or $170 on a sweater but I'd wear the shit out of that gun shirt or the sweater with the huf and temple/13 patches.
  19. I just posted this to Barbara's Facebook but considering all the bacon talk it's probably relevant here too: 6 Reasons Bacon Is Better Than True Love
  20. that gratin picture looks great Tammy!! mmm Cowgirl Creamery cheese too. I always love when we have leftovers of their cheese at work :)
  21. I made a really good Vichyssoise (don't ask me to pronounce that) recently. It's basically a leek and potato soup. My next big cooking endeavor is smoking up a whole turkey for thanksgiving. mmmmm smoked meat.
