A place to post pictures of yours or ones that you drool over. There are few things better than a well thought out and executed full back piece. So much potential as it's the largest solid flat plane on your body. I'll start with this one that Thomas Hooper just posted on his blog as in progress. So awesome! For those who aren't familiar with Hooper he works at the great shop New York Adorned

As a customer I prefer seeing your best work in your most natural style. By looking at one's portfolio I want to see the stuff you're not only proficient at but stoked on. Since I generally give a relatively simple description of what I want to get tattooed, this works best for both parties because then the artist can put his/her personal spin on my idea and make the best tattoo that I'll be most stoked on and I know it'll be in a style I'm stoked on too. It's the reason I'm saving certain tattoo ideas until I can travel to get tattooed by certain artists ya know? Then again, it doesn't sound like your current client base looks at your portfolio this way so maybe I'm not the same as your situation...

"SPOOKY " a family memoir of tattooing my Mothers Youngest brother
Jake commented on Shotsie Gorman's blog entry in Blog Shotsie Gorman
I keep coming back to reread one liners that have stuck with me and every time it grows on me as a whole. At first the flow distracted me, but now I appreciate how simultaneously reflective and real that flow it is. -

I was too blown away at first by his flaming asshole and SS to even notice the huge demon cock on his back... Definitely fitting for this thread.

I wrote a blog, saved it as a draft, reread it and decided I wanted to delete it. When I go to delete it I get this error message: Jake, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: 1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? 2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. ?? I've tried deleting it under advanced as well and I get the same error message...

appropriating ideas from other artists
Jake replied to MsRad's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
Really great Robin. I think the idea you're getting at extends beyond tattooing and photography though... I think what you're really getting at is the nature of the art of creation. I've been thinking about this a lot anyways and here's how I look at it... There are people who have immense fantasy world's (CREATIVE VISION) in their head but cannot articulate/illustrate/convey/EXECUTE what they have seen in their head. Similarly, there are people with a photographic memory of sorts- they can see/hear/taste something in the outside world (no CREATIVE VISION) and recreate/EXECUTE it beautifully. And then there's a range of people in between (the greys) who are skilled in various amounts of both Creative Vision and Execution. For most art forms, the perfect melding of creative vision and execution is where we see greatness. There are forms however like still life painting where execution is revered. Similarly there are forms like stream of consciousness writing where creative vision is revered. But what we're concerned about in the realm of tattooing is definitely the combination of creative vision and execution. Most of us want to see original, well thought art in a professionally done manner. Technique/execution can be learned with practice/work. Creative vision on the other hand is much less teachable and is therefore much more mystical/less tangible (I.E. what you're referencing with Christenberry, Robin.) By the way, what I'm discussing is not limited to art forms either. It can be applied to any human pursuit that requires ingenuity and performance.- 77 replies

The venerable "Cardinal of Cool" Freddy Corbin (as so appropriately dubbed on this here forum) just did this script on me five days ago. He was supposed to drop some black/grey roses in underneath the script to fill out some of the last big chunks of my chest but due to shop drama that day we didn't finish in time to do that... But it's all good because it means I get to go back to Temple again next month! here's a close up photo w/ shiny new freshly flaked skin and all... and here's a photo for reference to the open spots we're putting roses in a couple weeks.. poor lighting yada yada PS - I feel I should add Freddy is just as great of a person as he seems in the recently posted interview. Full of positivity and amazing history. Good times indeed.

wow. the naivete of people really blows me away sometimes. you'd think people of an intellectual domain (i.e. college) would stop to think that maybe the day you were born has very little to do with interpersonal compatibility. ohhhhh wellllll.

I'm still a taurus and that's all still a load of crap. I like how they tossed a whole sign out originally though. "Well we make the rules so screw science; we'll just pretend there's 12 signs instead of 13 and people will believe that story for millennia!"

How soon is too soon to go to Hawaii post-tattoo?
Jake replied to misswendy's topic in Tattoo After Care
I've gone in a pool while my tattoo was still flaking/scabbing and I only have a very small amount of fallout but that was probably from horseplay more than anything else. Generally speaking I've found my freshies are done flaking completely at the one week mark but don't look completely normal and healed until the two week mark. I've never had a bad experience after that two week point. Then again everyone's body is different- his experience may differ.- 7 replies

shit I'm in the same boat (if tickets are even still on sale...) getting tattooed took priority over any other extra spending for me recently. -
surely you've had a case of the beer shits at some point in your life? I'm guessing Shane has a chronic case of them which leads to some less than desirable side effects such as poo fingers
