Hello Everyone, I am not a tattooer but have been drawing and painting for fun for the last couple years. This thread was initially very helpful in regards to materials. Thanks to everyone who shared here. I have attached a few of the recent things I have done. These are all on Arches and painted using a combination of PH Martins and FW liquid acrylics. I have really enjoyed the process and watching things very slowly improve. It sure beats watching TV for late night activity. I'd love to hear some thoughts from those with more experience. Great forum! Nate

I picked up both of these this week at Seven Seas Tattoo in San Diego. The girl head is by Thor and the panther head/rose is by Dan Pryor.

Hello all tattoo artists and aspiring artists!

I just checked out these peoples instagram and I think the picture at the link below answers your question about if they are selling supplies to the public. There is a picture of a giant billboard advertising their supply company. Instagram I'm not a tattooer, but I have to say I find this really irresponsible. -
I got this one done by Phil Hatchet Yau this weekend at Ink-n-Iron. He's a great tattooer and also really fast.

Anyone Going to Ink-n-Iron 2014 next weekend?

It was fun overall but I would agree with your assessment. There was some great tattooing going on though and i came home with a really nice eagle from Phil Hatchet-Yau (picture below). That definitely still made it worthwhile. I'd love to come check out the SFO convention. I may need to make it up there this year. -

To each their own, but I guess I don't really see the point of something like this as a tattoo. To me, if you are going to get tattooed, why not get something that is an artistic representation of whatever you are trying to get across and not just some text or in this case ones and zeros. There are tattooers who do really beautiful lettering in a very artistic manner and I'm sure the same thing could be done with something like this, but the one in the picture is pretty poorly executed. That said, everyone should do what they want. I just don't think too many people would be happy with something like this in the long run.

I had these two done at Lucky's roughly 14 years ago. Both of them are by Morgwn Pennypacker. I'm pretty certain the one on the right is Dave Gibson flash.

I actually still have that same sticker on a guitar case. Blast from the past.

I just came across this thread. I never got tattooed by Dave, but I was tattooed a number of times by Morgwn Pennypacker at Lucky's which was Dave's old shop in San Diego. It was such a great shop, with all of Dave's hand painted flash on the wall's. In my opinion, that place was exactly the way a tattoo shop should be.

This one is about 13 years old. It was done by Milford Barnes in San Diego. Although I like the more detailed ones, there is just something about a nice bold traditional girl head.

So far, the back of my knee has definitely been the worst. It was by far worse than my kneecap was.

The more tattooed I get, I think I am much more willing to go into an appointment with a less specific idea. There are so many images that I would be happy with and as long as I am going to someone who I know will understand a general look that I am going for, the less concerned I am about being picky about every little detail. I think this often makes for a better tattoo when you let the artist just go for it and do what they do.
