  1. I am on the fence about whether or not to fill in negative space in a traditional American sleeve or set of tattoos. I love those Cripwell legs, but I also love stars and dots as filler. Also, little tiny daggers, flowers, hearts, eagles, etc. work really well as filler. I'd like to know what y'all think about large scale Japanese work and backgrounds/filler, though. Personally, I think Japanese work needs a background to look its absolute best. Still a tough decision. Some examples: Not sure who the tattooer is on these two (any help would be appreciated): vs Horiharu: Horitoshi I: Horiyoshi III:
  2. Edit: Double post. Here are some more tattoos. 39 Bunshin. Horikaze:
  3. @Duffa , I'm amazed by the tattoos I have been seeing lately. Glad to see my posts are appreciated. When's your next trip to Japan?
  4. Those are awesome! Thanks for posting, @ian . That "PRAY IV ME" one is especially dope. And the "PARADISE LOST." And the rest of them...
  5. Spider Murphy's has some pretty sweet appointment cards, for what it's worth. Some pics (these are from an appointment I made last year that I, sadly, had to cancel; I should be going back soon since I have a new job and some money): And to keep this post on topic, what are you getting done at Frith Street, @jade1955 ?
  6. Shunho, Tattoo Soul: Horiyamato: Horiyuki: Horimatsu: Horiyasu: I have found a new appreciation for large scale Japanese work. I never thought I would want any of this style work done, but I have recently brewed a strong desire for a Japanese sleeve or back piece.
  7. I don't know much in the way of hotels and the like, but there are some great restaurants in the food thread. Here are a few of my favorites. Freddie's- sandwich shop by Ocean Beach. Fresca- Peruvian food with three different locations in SF. North Beach Sushi- amazing sushi in North Beach of all places. Basil- Thai food in SoMa. Golden Boy Pizza Who are you getting zapped by at the convention?
  8. Props, @CercleRouge. Two great tattooers. I especially love the Duke Riley piece.
  9. The picture slayer posted in the original thread post doesn't have cross-hatching either. Just saying, I think he meant use of lines as shading.
  10. I just got Yakuza Moon in the mail. It's not necessarily about tattoos, but more about a girl growing up in a yakuza family. Bodies of Inscription is pretty good. Also, the Amund Dietzel books.
  11. Well done, jade. I agree with Duffa, too. That line had me cracked up.
  12. Cool post! Thanks, @jade1955 . You don't look a thing like I imagined you looking. Also, someone on one of the other tattoo forums I frequent has a Coney Island man tattoo as well. Such a cool design; you must be proud to wear it. And from a great tattooer to boot.
  13. Amazing tattoo you got from Bailey. Just as awesome reading your trip's story.
  14. I couldn't find the back piece thread, so here's one from Thomas Hooper.
