  1. You tattooing someone would be like a heroin addict trying to tend bar. They love drugs. They think selling drugs is better than using drugs. They want to try to sell booze, because it's less scary than selling illegal drugs. Yet, they are completely unaware of the fact that they have no skills whatsoever, because they are so caught up in shooting dope into their veins. Find an apprenticeship, show the tattooer you would like to apprentice under your drawings, and if they say that you can't tattoo, then either go to the next PROFESSIONAL tattooer, or quit altogether.
  2. I'll have to try the Imperial next. I'm in need of a lighter pomade, so this is very serendipitous. I actually have tried Layrite as well, but that was only for one day, and the barber applied it. It was a fairly light hold and didn't leave too much residue from what I can remember, which is not much.
  3. I've tried Dax Super Neat and Murray's so far. I'd say it's pretty awesome.
  4. Three Tides is in Osaka and Tokyo.
  5. @Johannes Congrats on both accounts! I'm at three months sober. It gets really tough sometimes, and I have lost virtually all social life, but I'm becoming way more productive. Keep it up.
  6. @Lance thanks for posting those. Just watched the Junii video, and it was great. Will get to the rest later.
  7. Saw Freddie Gibbs live I'm Santa Cruz. It was an awesome show.
  8. That's something that bums me out about tattooing culture. The macho bravado that sometimes occurs, I mean. Tattooing has a lot of secrets and "it's just a show" kind of attitude, and some people seem to think they can take advantage of those facts. I mean, it makes sense when someone comes into a tattoo shop, or even here, and just won't listen to good advice. But that's just about tattoos. When it steps over the line into treating marginalized individuals like they don't belong or like they are less than just for being a bit off or weird or different, it just brings up thoughts of power abuse, which makes me think of old right-winged people, which reminds me of the schools and thought-constructions that I rebelled against in the first place. This post would probably anger some of the more secretive old guard, but that's really not any of my concern. I'm not taking a side on whether those claims are based in absolute truth, though.
  9. I really hope there are some drunk rants in this thread tonight.
  10. There are so many things wrong with that. My god.
  11. Saw a video on Sea Wolf. Seems like a rad shop. Wouldn't mind visiting it in the future.
  12. At first, I thought that little dragon was just gonna be stuck in the cage after the "cover-up," but now I see that it's getting actually covered by the branch in the cage. Looks awesome so far!
  13. Why not just get a black and grey tattoo? They age perfectly. When I got my skull and mandala from Ron Henry Wells, he asked before doing the final shading whether I wanted black and grey or color. Specifically red. I think that the way tattoos are shaded, it's best to decide prior to the tattoo, or like Ron did, before the final touches, whether black and grey or color is best. I chose black and grey, and I am thrilled with the result.
  14. Listening to this album right meow. It's pretty good. Mellow and good to write to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTdYfARIDMI
  15. Welcome to LST. Good on ya for not getting tattooed until later. You'll end up with better tattoos that will be cool for a long time.
  16. Just finished Framed Narratives: Diderot's Genealogy of the Beholder. It was a really great read, for a novice philosophy reader like myself anyway. Lots of information packed into a small book.
  17. @Fala I don't fault you for this, but it seems you skipped my post. lol
  18. Great choice of shop. I got tattooed by Ron there a few years ago.
  19. Also seen pictures, and it's great! Welcome to Last Sparrow!
  20. Plenty of people are concerned about tattoo ink ingredients. The government for one. My ex worked for the FDA, and was about to test a supply of tattoo ink, from an unnamed company, for heavy metals before we broke up. Now, I don't think that there's any danger in tattoo ink, especially good tattoo ink, which is used by most good tattooers, but suffice to say that you're not an idiot for being concerned about what's going into your body; however, it is a little irrational to assume that the yellow ink that's already in your leg wouldn't have caused a reaction already.
  21. Oakland is always an option for cheaper living. Lots of cool restaurants that one could possibly apply to.
  22. I'm pretty sure that's a myth. The Japanese take really hot baths after getting tattooed to get the excess plasma and ink off/out of the tattoo. Also, I've read that it's good to take a really hot shower and let the water hit the tattoo for a while to open the pores and to rub the tattoo with soap of your choice and your hand. It's worked out well for me with all my tattoos.
  23. It seems from your language that you are mistaking LST for a tattoo shop's website. Actually, this is just a forum for tattoo enthusiasts and collectors. On the other hand, Asheville has Danny Reed, who I would suggest for good tattoos.
