I'm a prof and so is my husband - two academics, visible tattoos and zero issues.

Interesting! Seeing as you've been working with your Dr already - your only option would be to look at having your Dermatologist remove it - As my understanding of common tattoo removal goes it involves a laser breaking down ink pigments (different wavelengths affect different colour molecules) - this wouldn't affect a phosphorescent pigment - your best option would be to have it removed surgically if it's something you are concerned about. LS has an excellent tattoo removal thread with some great advice by a seasoned pro. Is it possible for someone to apply a crude tattoo without your knowing? Sure depending on your state at the time - the 80's were a thing for sure. Was it likely applied with a tattoo machine? Probably not - more likely your skin was cut and pigment was rubbed in it. Good luck!

It may be a good idea to see a dermatologist so they can see what's happening to the skin. I missed the description - there may be an explanation as to why it's phosphorescent - as it could be something you may want removed... good luck!

This - all this... Honestly watching the number of long-time valuable posters (many of whom were artists) disappear I'm guessing is for the same reason I rarely post - I'm tired of the snark. if it's lame ignore it and let the post sink. I'm here to talk good tattoos - not torture those with bad ones.

I've never been tattooed by him but a friend of mine has. He does good realistic and his shop is pretty well respected in Toronto. The other shop I've heard talked about in TO for realism is The Black Pearl on The Danforth. If you are looking for cool black and grey check out Jennifer at the Pearl https://www.instagram.com/jenniferlawes/ or Alex Snelgrove at the Okey Doke https://www.instagram.com/snelgrove/ she not currently taking new work but her books will open up in a few months.

Starting a new position today as a full time Faculty Member at my College and am saying goodbye to precarious employment! -
My favourite part of this was when you were consulting with Chad and his only question was - can it be weird?

Alice by Jennifer Lawes at Pearl Harbor - this may have been my easiest tattoo ever. -
Fire started next door as an accident and spread through a few buildings. It was a four alarm fire. Someone lost their kitty but no one else was hurt - from what I've ready their machines and some of the art survived. No news on where everyone is setting up in the meantime. ____ Added on to say we talked to Franz today and most of the machines, books and art were salvageable and they've found a new location and will be re-opening in a few weeks - all around good news.

Not sure if it is lighter or not (I always thought mine might be) but I'd definitely avoid waxing, sugaring or dilapitories for at least 6-8 weeks after a tattoo - that skin needs to recover!

:( such a loss

My first tattoo was drawn from Tut's jewelry - I"m a historian so that stuff sticks with me.
-
Actually I'm mistaken - the tattoo is an amalgam of Tutankhamun and Ankhesenamun and his father Akhenaten and Nefertiti - it's either Tut or Akhenaten as the Amarna period was the only one that worshipped Aten (the sun disk). if you look at the original images - even as carvings they are more dynamic

Great Image, Glennie at the Pearl told me (as she was doing my butterfly-ladyhead that many of those iconic turn-of the century images (like ladyheads) were copied from popular advertisements - your lady head could be from a matchbook cover! -
Hey guys, Sad news out of Toronto, the Okey Doke was hit by a fire last night, according to India's Instagram, they'll be closed until further notice - if you have an upcoming tattoo with any of the excellent artists there contact them ASAP. I know the shop owners here in TO are close so I imagine you'll see the Okey Doke crew guesting around the city.

He's been really great - building this sleeve over the last 3 years has been an excellent experience all around.
-
Ha - no but I've certainly chatted to him about the new ventures - I'll make sure to see if there is a copy next time I'm at the Pearl.
-
I think it would be easy to underestimate how important he's been to building Canadian tattooing and showing how to run a great shop - plus he's just a super sweet guy.
