2015 Bay Area Convention of the Tattoo Arts
sophistre replied to beez's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
Oh, don't get me wrong, I would dig getting a tattoo there, for sure! I just haven't contacted anyone and have no idea where I'd even start. Won't most people be pretty booked out in advance..? -

2015 Bay Area Convention of the Tattoo Arts
sophistre replied to beez's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
I am definitely going to try to make it happen! It's my birthday weekend, and that would be a pretty great gift. TBH I would love to be tattooed there but I have no specific 'must-have' artists sorted and no idea how I would try to get in with them, anyway, so who knows! It'll be fun just to have the experience. Buy some prints, ogle other people's tattoos, add to my mental list of people I'd like to tattoo me someday. :) -

I met a @beez today. We ate tacos after my hair appt., and noises were made about a possible pilgrimage to the Bay Area convention... -
I've had Destiny sitting around since I got my PS3, and I still haven't played it. I don't know why. Then again, I'm drowning in stuff I need to finish (Witcher 3, Pillars of Eternity, GTA V, Bloodborne), but I'm still just sitting around playing more Binding of Isaac: Rebirth at night. Go figure. In other gaming news, PAX SOON PAX SOON YEAH PAX

So the question is: Did it scratch the itch?

Thank you! I know it's worth it to do it now instead of waiting, but man. I was excited. Just gives me more time to contemplate the particulars, I guess. :)

Saw the ortho in Seattle today. Torn labrum AND torn joint capsule, so surgery is a go. Scheduled for Nov. 9th... ...which means I had to send emails to my tattooer today and cancel my two next appointments to plan/start my back in the winter. Boooooooooo. It wouldn't interfere with the surgery, but I have to pay for it out of pocket, so it's just safer to save my money for now. boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (On the upshot, I'm genuinely happy to have a gamplan for figuring this out and getting back to doing normal things.)

Thanks!! I'm just really lucky to live close to Portland. I knew it was gonna be good, but it turned out even better than I imagined. Between this and @cltattooing's chimera on my other leg, my legs are 200% cooler than they were a few months ago.

July 2015 Tattoo of the Month Contest
sophistre replied to Iwar's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
HAHAH. Figures!! Oh well. It'll give me time to heal up. X) -
Prettyyyyyyyyy pumped about this one, not gonna lie. Yesterday: There's a vid too: https://instagram.com/p/5075TDTBNR/?taken-by=greggletron By Greg Whitehead at Scapegoat in Portland, as usual. My thigh feels like a wobbly hot water bottle today, and I don't even care. :o

In this thread, we commiserate about healing our fresh tattoos.
sophistre replied to Pugilist's topic in Tattoo After Care
Holy immune response, Batman. I knew 'tattoo flu' was a thing, but I had never been more than tired/cold/hungry after one. I had the works last night, though. Body aches, chills, plugged sinuses/post-nasal drip, upset stomach, mild fever. A hot bath really helped, and so did staying warm under the covers, but oh, man. That was gross. I thought I was going to have to extend my stay. Much better this morning, though! Some coffee/OJ and breakfast will get me home. I can't imagine traveling on a plane or driving a long distance feeling like that, and I know people must have done it. My hat is off to you. -
There is just something about that guy's style, man. It's unperfect-perfect. I don't know how to describe it. Like it's loose, but it's also loose in just the right way to be packed with character? It's amazing.

Did I read somethin' somewhere about tattoos in the contest thread having to be healed...? I don't see that rule anywhere, but for some reason I thought they were supposed to be. Cos, if not, I think I might finally toss my hat in the ring for next month.

My salon is on Capitol Hill, as it happens, and I'm REALLY due for a trim... :) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Almost! I'm on Bainbridge, so practically in Seattle. I'd definitely be down for LST hangout time! I'm lazy, so I barely ever go across the water unless it's to get my hair cut. It'd be good to see some more of the city.

...and I proceed to quote you on it, sorry! But only because I know that the eyes are the most important part. Ideally, you want sunlight going into your eyes from an angle slightly above you. (Like the sun, natch.) We thought I had S.A.D. for a while, and I tend to be D-deficient if I'm not careful, so I had to learn these things. This is what I get for living and working in front of a computer, indoors, with no pants on, for years. I'm having to wear a lot more sunscreen than usual this year, @beez. Where is this constant rain I was promised when I moved to Seattle? All of the grass on the island is dying!

I don't know why I haven't gotten any shit from anyone about being tattooed. I'm probably the least imposing person in the universe, physically, so maybe that contributes, but I haven't had a negative experience yet. I'm sure I will someday. But, I dunno. I'll be 34 this year. I have a rad life and great friends, and I guess I'm just at the point where that kind of superficial judgement from other people just keeps those kinds of people out of my life, which I'm fine with. If it came from someone I knew and cared about it would surely hurt like hell, but from strangers...I just dunno that I care. I wish'em well, but I don't need their approval, and mostly it just makes me sad for them. So, I enjoy seeing my tattoos, and showing them to other people! They're beautiful, and half of the people I meet have never seen tattoos like them, and say as much. It's not really 'showing off' so much as...I dunno...enjoying them openly? Like the way a good haircut or something makes a person feel. Just...good. Better.

So, I'm really curious -- what is it like, healing linework across such large expanses of your back at once? Is it less crazy-itchy because it's just the linework, or is it just as bad as healing any other tattoo, except gigantic?

Sigh. That guy made me want to get tattooed for the first time when I was a teenager. He is definitely my tattoo Missed Connection. And: nope. It does link back to his official site though, and is apparently called Dancing With Wings. Also, this is probably not the right thread for it, just as a heads-up, but I dunno where I'd put it. Maybe in the art and flash sub-forum. Good luck searching!

Weird! It didn't publish properly. Should be working now though. Thanks for the heads-up. -

I have been messing around with Adobe After Effects for funsies. Never touched it until a week and a half ago, but I dig it. It's just similar enough to photoshop that I'm not completely in the dark with the UI, and Video Copilot has some amazing tutorials available. I made this by following one of them. It has EXPLOSIONS. -
Ha! You know, as laid back as I've been about going into things half-blind and just seeing what happens, I don't think I could do that with a back piece. We've been tossing around rough ideas about that, though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

The only upshot to not being able to climb Rainier this year because of an injury is that I can now go ahead and get tattoos again. July 31st. Greg's never done a morph before, but I was talking about how I wanted one, and he jumped right on it. Probably gonna involve a dragon. I can't wait! ...I have no idea where we're putting it.

Basically this. At 20, I would definitely have hesitated, and probably stayed above the elbow. I'm turning 34 this year, I'm financially secure and settled into a profession that allows me to work at home, I live in an area of the country that's pretty liberal, and I've been waiting for over 15 years to get tattooed -- I really didn't think twice, to be honest. It was still nice to have a tattooer ask me if tattooing down to my wrists was okay, though. It felt nice to know it mattered to him. It was also kind of nice to know he was okay with tattooing them, because I felt like I had maybe officially crossed the line between being a plainskin noob and being A Tattooed Person. (It was Gilsdorf, if anybody's curious.) Here's a funny tidbit, though: During that appointment we were talking about the experience of getting tattooed generally, and I was laughing about how, even though I'm not very tattooed, I still find myself wringing my hands about running out of space. And Dan goes, 'I don't think you're 'not very tattooed' anymore, by civilian standards,' and I had to tell him that I think my perspective is now permanently warped by all the time I spend lurking around here, hahaha. Compared to LST's crew, I've barely even gotten started.
