  1. I'm finding I'm a big fan of hard negative space. Maybe shading would be appropriate for whatever you might go for, but that tattoo is so solid all on its own I think it's earned the clean buffer. IMHO.
  2. Going back on Friday for the second layer on the top of my back and half of my spine. Joy. Dreading this one - the only time I've tapped out is when we did the first pass in this area. I've started making bigger batches of baked goods - always for my tattoo artist, but now some for the couple whose house I've been crashing at instead of driving all the way home so late at night. Peanut butter cookies this time. Tomorrow night I'm going to stink up the house good with peanut butter goodness. Keeps my brain occupied so I don't think about this too much!
  3. @ironchef - wow you have had quite the weekend! You should be long passed out by now :) The colors are amazing - especially the orange and yellow - so bright!
  4. Well, that certainly tells you something. It's too bad you weren't able to have that conversation in real time to justify why you felt that salary was appropriate (and get in that negotiation practice). But, if they can't recognize the value of your work, it's certainly better to understand that from the outset. 50 days. I'm so jealous!
  5. I'll be sending you my mailing address...
  6. Redd's Apple Ale. Ugh. Tastes like there is some sort of plastic in it. I have 5 left for sale. Original Sin Cider - ok, seems like a beerish version of cider. I'll drink it, but won't buy it again. Dropped back and punted with a couple Smith and Frorges. It's a great Halloween! Here's Fishy! He was a fun pumpkin to do this year but it was a race to get him carved before the kids came!
  7. That is awesome - the design and the story! Thanks for following up with the "after" pictures. It's amazing to see what a talented artist can do with challenges like these. And like @Fala, I'd never realize it was a coverup!
  8. I am utterly shocked it took until PAGE 7 for this recommendation to be uttered. Really folks, is @CABS the only one with his eye on the ball?
  9. Now that it's xxx'ed out, she can claim that she was very nice and genuine, and that she never said a rude or inconsiderate thing. That she didn't make global condescending remarks about all of us as a whole. That she didn't barf out drama queen splat. And because she xxx'ed everything out, she can pretend that she specifically thanked the many people who helped her out. Which she didn't. I don't recall that she ever said a kind word to anyone who helped her. Now she says she cried. Maybe she did, and part of me still feels bad that she is upset about her tattoo. But this passive-aggressive deleting of her posts and then claiming all the terrible things that were said to her, with no reference as to why anything was said ... well, that's juvenile behavior purposely designed to make other people look bad. Put on your big girl pants and drop the drama. And I recognize you don't respect me, but pretend someone you really respect just said this to you. Calm down, go read a bunch of threads here like this and other good posts, reset, and come back after you've put the drama behind you. You will find that this is the most resourceful and knowledgeable bunch of tattoo folks on the internet. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/2396-what-makes-good-tattoo.html
  10. She removed it. It was a single line with maybe 5 smaller tick marks like a ruler. Some notion of measuring something. Maybe it was 2 inches long. It probably took about 5 minutes to do - longer than the total time I've spent trying to help her out and chill her down. A tick mark at the bottom and the bottom bar were blown out, or "migrated" as she was told.
  11. @ironchef When I visit the page, I'm already logged into my account, and when I go to the pay page, all my mailing & billing particulars are already populated and my computer asks to automatically fill in all my credit card information. I think I have to click 2 buttons after I fill my basket. That's probably close enough, right? ;)
  12. Ok, I tried. @Mick Weder maybe you can gather us all around the campfire and sing a few songs? I'll feeling awfully down and attacked when all I tried to do is help. ::sniff sniff:: But she's amended it to only "SOME" people on this board. ;) Chalk up another one. I think I got some of the same "love" from you immature and inconsiderates when I freaked out about blow-out early in my LST days. I suppose the LST welcome rules should include a clause and understanding that at some point, someone will break your balls. But hey, those were some of the most exciting "lurker 10 thread minimum" amusing posts in a while. - - - Updated - - - If a mod stops by, leave up this thread as an example of how a newbie expect the world to stop when they ask a question and then ignore the answers they don't like. Answers from excellent tattoo artists and those with a boatload of experience and those sporting tattoos with blowouts. Answers that complete strangers spent time writing and holding her hand. Yeah, we are a completely terrible rude bunch. We should all (ok, mostly) be banned. I mean, really. :: rolls eyes :: (And yes, I know the thread won't be deleted.)
  13. @flowergirl, we all get that you are upset with the tattoo. I would be too, based on what I can see you wanted. But please, do you really believe everyone here has insulted you and your tattoo? Go back and read the feedback you've gotten without trying to find insults in it. Many people, including me, tried to explain what might have happened, and tried to help you take next steps. That's not insulting you, and it's not insulting your tattoo. It bugs me that you are trashing me and the advice I tried to give you, to help you. What did I do to deserve this animosity from you? Your comment above was pretty insulting to everyone here. If that's the way you are going to talk to us, then yes, it might be best if you leave. However, if you want to behave like an adult - recognize you will get a range of comments about something that clearly means a lot to you, it's very possible that you might take some of them personally, when they were not written that way. And as I said before, and still mean it, good luck.
  14. Cat prints and new shirts now available online! Just placed my order. Now have to convince someone to "buy" them from me to give them to me for Christmas. Didn't want to miss the prints I wanted! Yay!
  15. One could argue that your tattoo was not "so so simple." You wanted a perfectly straight line with even width and perfectly perpendicular cross bars. It takes some talent to pull nice lines like that. Don't underestimate the talent required to do that - there is no room for error, as you can see. A "simpler" tattoo would have lots of shading and shadows to hide imperfections that you'd never realize were there. Go to someone else and get the proposed "fix" done by someone who does solid line work. I don't think you'll ever know for sure, so I recommend that you take a deep breath, assume the fault lies with the tattooer, don't argue with him, and go find a different one. Good luck!
  16. What exactly could they touch up? Where would you expect them to add ink? It is what it is, unless you do decide to do a coverup, and that's not a touch up. Yeah, it sucks because it looks like it's supposed to represent measurements and the "problem" detracts from the clean look I imagine you wanted. I wouldn't bother going back to them for anything. Go see someone good and let them design something around it to detract from that area you don't like. I don't know where you are reviewing, but if you feel the need to vent, just show the picture. You don't have to explain anything or type out who-said-what or figure out who was "at fault." Let people make their own assessments based on what you asked for and what you got.
  17. Cool - like him. I vote for the negative space - he holds his own nicely.
  18. Exciting! Welcome to a group of fellow crazies who've jumped straight to a full back. You're not alone. You may be crazy, but you'll never be alone! :)
  19. Yeah, shading isn't great, and that's unfortunate because well executed shading can really make the roses "pop" off your arm with depth. And it looks like it spills into the shadows in the rose's petals, so I can understand why you are disappointed. But don't get the idea that this is a terrible tattoo! Talk to an artist - he will be able to suggest something beyond your idea that the only solution might be black/grey leaves. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  20. Hi and welcome! Do you have pics to share? Of course you're doing the right thing by visiting a tattoo artist.
  21. ...and I'd just like to clarify that I have no idea exactly how shitting a tattoo goes down.
  22. I think I was exposed to a bug the day of my last session, but not at the actual shop. I was sick as a dog for 10 days. It was a bad cold going around, but I think trying to heal a tattoo at the same time made it worse. Like @OutOfIdeas said, I think it's an immune system thing.
