  1. A lot better than "oriental" though surely? (I used to have Japanese connections...)
  2. Also, is anybody familiar with the work of Eric Wilcox at Tattoo Paradise? Tattoo Paradise - Eric Wilcox To my untrained eye his work looks pretty good, and covers a variety of styles. Thanks again!
  3. Doesn't sound very random - not that there's anything wrong with that! :)
  4. Looking at portfolios (mainly Read Street and Paradise Tattoo) it looks like Deirdre Aikin may be best suited for my simple, but geometric, pattern. Anybody here have work done by her? Tattoo Paradise - Deirdre Aikin (I also noticed that Deirdre Aikin is a MICA graduate, and I have some connections with people there...)
  5. Thanks, @Bunny Switchblade. By the way, I think we may have a mutual friend. (At least she's a facebook friend of yours.)
  6. Thanks very much for all the comments and suggestions. I popped in to Paradise Tattoo and chatted briefly with the guy at the front desk and he was very friendly and helpful. I also visited Read St yesterday and they were also great people. Spoke briefly with Alex (I think it was) there.

    Hello

Hi Everyone, I'm an astronomer in my mid-fifties living in the Washington D.C. area. Thinking of getting my first tattoo (!) As I posted on the job-related thread, I want something that is related to my job. I'm thinking of a simplified version of the Apollo 8 logo - watching Apollo missions as a kid made me take this career path. It is also reminiscent of a binary star system, which is the type of thing I study. So, nothing nearly as dramatic as many of the photos that people post here... I live very close to Tattoo Paradise and was possibly thinking of going there. But, my girlfriend lives in Baltimore and am alternatively considering going to some place there. (e.g. she lives short walking distance to Read Street). But also easy to get to the Tattoo Museum, or Saints and Sinners in B'more as well.
  8. Thanks. I actually deliberately simplified it to make it less like the original logo. Since I was only participating as "voyeur" I didn't want to claim the patch as my own. The simplified version is also like a binary-star system which is what I do work on. I also added a tiny Sputnik 1 at the lower right to make it more international. But I may be over-thinking this...
  9. I'm a professional astronomer in his mid-50s, thinking about getting a modest-sized first/only (work-related) tattoo. Probably on upper outside arm where even T-shirt would mainly cover it up. I wanted to do something related to the Apollo program, since that's what inspired me as a kid. I've come up with a design based on the Apollo 8 logo, I was wondering if people thought this was practical. I expect some people will suggest much more dramatic designs, but that's not what I want. :D Thanks!
