"Worst Tattoo Customer Ever"
Dbeatdano replied to traditional111's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
I had a friend who was visiting in Milwaukee from Albany, NY and he asked me a good artist to start a navy sleeve. He had been getting his tattoos done by some guy who discounts sailors, all Super Mario characters which look terrible by the way. I pointed him towards a couple artists I was familiar with around town who do some great tattoos. I asked him a couple days later if he booked an appointment yet, he said he would just go to his guy back in Albany because the guy gives a discount to Navy guys. I just left it at that. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. -
I will never get tired of seeing the Pharoah's Horses, and this is a very well done rendition of it.

Tattoo Culture Magazine
Dbeatdano replied to Graeme's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
I just downloaded them now. I don't know why I hadn't until now because I'd been reading the TAM magazines for a couple months and love the interviews. Nice to get an insight into some of these great artists to understand how hard they work and how much they love what they do. Plus the photos are amazing. Yeah I do wish these were in print, but oh well. -

Yeah I recommended the girl that did my ribs to some people I work with. I immediately regret that decision after reading this. Luckily she's so nice, she'll probably just politely listen, but damn I feel bad now. From now on, only shops, no names unless they want something good. -
Bearded men + tattooed women = PASSION KILLERS!
Dbeatdano replied to TrixieFaux's topic in WTF in the News
It depends on the tattoos. I was with a girl who had a Tinkerbell tramp stamp and that was kind of a turn off. I just couldn't stop thinking about why she would get that. If it would've been a phoenix back piece, it would've been a big turn on. Oh well, maybe some guys enjoy Disney characters. -
Yeah I definitely wouldn't call myself tough. I just really wanted it done after the first session so I sat so long for the second session until it was finished. I finally have a picture of it uploaded in my gallery @TaeTae.

I like having general idea like "I want an eagle" or "I want a dragon" but that's as far as I go. I like giving the tattooer as much freedom as possible because if I'm seeking them out and traveling to their shop, I trust their abilities and I trust their advice. I wouldn't seek out an artist from a shop across the country just to micro manage every detail. I want their tattoo. Plus, I want them to enjoy doing the tattoo as much as I will enjoy having it. If they tell me "Dude, I was excited to do this thing when I heard what you wanted." That, to me, is exciting and gets me pumped up to get that tattoo. I think the highest compliment I can get on a tattoo I have is the artist that did it saying they love it. That, to me, is the best compliment ever.

8 hours on my ribs with one 30 minute break to eat. It hurt pretty bad, but I was still able to hold conversations during it. And yeah I also forgot about the pain after a couple days.

I've noticed the same thing @Jnvlv when I really started getting into tattoos. Honestly after my first 2, I still would look at people with sleeves and just think "Oh theres a guy/girl with a sleeve. Cool." But I've found that my interest has grown and my understanding about tattoos has grown, I look at peoples sleeves and study them, see what images are there, if there's a theme or if they just have a bunch of tattoos clustered together, and if they're really good, I may ask them who did their work. It's kind of nice transcending the perception that tattoos are just pictures on people's skin to really appreciating them as symbols.

Alright thanks @suburbanxcore, I'll get in contact with them. I'll probably need some time to save up for some work with Grez as well. Any ideas on your arm or are you using the wait to brainstorm?
-
That's awesome man. How far is Grez booked out? I really want a crawling panther from him on my ribs.

When is that blonde with the dreads May May going to get booted? That samurai she did was horrible. If that would've been on me, I would've flayed it off. On the show.

The piece on my left side was done completely with a rotary and as far as pain goes, it was pretty much the same, but the healing process was so short I was pretty surprised. I got the rest of the tattoo finished on a Wednesday and by Monday it was already done peeling and pretty much healed. The tattoo on my sternum was with a coiled machine and that scabbed up and the healing took about about 10-14 days, but it still healed great. The pain was pretty much the same as the side piece so I really can't compare that too much.

It's funny you mention that @MadeIndelible, I actually just picked up These old Blue Arms Vol. 1 by John Reiter and I have it pretty bookmarked with some of his flash I'd like to get. It was pretty cool to see some history by a tattoo legend in my home town. Thanks everyone for the name compliments. Glad to see some D-beat fans on here as well. @TaeTae I don't have a picture of it but I can get one put on here. @Joe Shit- I actually am looking into getting tattooed by Todd Noble in the summer and I have a friend in New York so I could probably make the trip to get tattooed by Kevin Leblanc. I like his style. I'll have to check out more of his stuff and think of something I want to get. Thanks for the links too. I'll check them out as well.

That's an awesome tattoo idea. Yeah get real creative with the explanation, and change it every time someone asks.

My mom is actually more ok with my tattoos than my dad. My dad looks at tattoos as the worst financial decisions anyone can make. When I get a new tattoo, I always have to tell him they cost way less than they do. My mother is happy as long as I don't have fuck tattooed on my knuckles or anything on my neck, which I don't plan on doing anyways. My soon to be wife is the same way. I told her about my most recent appointment booking and she said I'm just throwing money in the garbage. Why? I'm getting something I really want with my money. It's not like I'm blowing all this money on booze or drugs. I guess I can't win.

Just booked an appointment with Dusty Neal at Black Anvil Tattoo 3/28/2014 and I can't wait. I'm getting a grim reaper with a yellow rose and a banner reading "Death Makes Life Worth Living" on my left thigh. Can't wait!
