  1. It has been about a week. The color looks like it has spread a bit and lightened up a bit. We still have some work to do on the tattoo. I am going wait and see what this ink does. I think I am going to wait till spring and then decide. It's going to be a gorgeous tattoo (IMHO). I don't want to risk making it worse. Besides, most of my acquaintances know nothing about tattoos and won't notice. I think I am in shock because I never thought it would happen to me. I take my tattoos pretty serious. I just need to stop looking at that spot. - - - Updated - - - Thanks for sharing this video. I like what he had to say. I think my problem is that I am a tattoo snob. Time to come off my high horse.
  2. The best way to deal with blowouts is to get more tattoo's by a different artist or artists. I don't understand how that helps you deal better with blowouts?
  3. I got a tattoo on Khao Sahn Road about 8 years ago. I got it done at Pumpkin Studios. It's a badly done kanji. No covering it up though. Great Memories. Did you make it to Cambodia? Loved Angkor Wat.
  4. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I have googled my ass off and can not find much information about Blowout. Maybe it is a taboo subject. I mean, what artists are going to admit they have done blowouts? But they are out there and always a possibility and they are mostly permanent. I have learned that certain areas are prone to blowout. The "ditch", foot , wrist to name a few. Questions that I can not seem to find the answers to- I read a lot that some blowouts can be fixed by adding a little shadow. In that case, it it possible that you will make an even bigger mess if the shadowing" blows out also? How long should you give your tattoo to heal and let some of your blood carry the ink away before you try the fix of shadowing? (I really don't want a shadow) I thought I was very knowledgeable about tattooing. I am a collector and read a lot about tattoos and technique. I knew about blowout. But I thought you only risked that with crappy artists. Now I read that even the best artists have it happen now and then because of the area. As an artist, do you warn your clients about possible blowout in certain areas? Yes, yes, I am whining and want answers because I do have a blowout and it seems to be spreading. It has not been quite a week yet. I had more bruising than normal this time. It is on an arm that I had surgery on 5 years ago. I have permanent damage to the muscles and have some limited movement and my arm is very flabby. Could this be the cause? I am pretty sick to my stomach about it. My artist is wonderful, and I believe very talented. I sent him a pic. He said to send him another photo close to our next appointment. He also reassured me that it is fixable. But it seems to have gotten a little lighter but more spread out now. Please move this post if it is in the wrong category. Someone slap me please.
  5. I am almost certain it is. Just waiting g for my artist to wake up and tell me what he thinks.
  6. First I want to say my artist is experienced and professional. I have a full back piece and another half sleeve by him. No problems. We were looking at the tattoo tonight and my boyfriend said it looked like the ink was spread down by the tip of the feather. Lots of bruising on this. I'm guessing because of location. Please tell me this isn't the infamous blowout?
  7. She's coming along. Need some texture for the feathers. At a loss as to what the color of the wings should be. Open to suggestions
  8. This is very fresh and we still need to add some texture to the feathers. I am down to the color of my Tennyo's wings. I am at a loss. Any suggestions or examples I can be directed to would be a great help. I find it difficult to find colored wing examples. They are mostly black and gray.
  9. Yes, most of the Tennin tattoos I see are back pieces. But I already have a full back piece. No room there.
  10. My Great Aunt Tudie. She was a good person. I aspire to be like her.
  11. I agree. But short of me giving her the cash to get a decent tattoo, I fear she shall never find out.
  12. Hi! I'm 51 and have a lot of tattoos. I have yet to experience any negativity from my tattoos. I've had an old lady approach me and say she doesn't like tattoos but she liked mine because she said it looked like a painting. I never took her dislike for tattoos as a negative. I took it as a positive because she saw a tattoo in a different light and maybe changed her mind a little. I do however get tired of locals who want to know where I get tattooed when I know they have no intention of spending money for quality tattoos. It's a waste of my time.
  13. Question-Don't artists mix inks to make certain colors? If so, would it not be difficult to use the pre-loaded ink caps? I'm a collector, not an artist.
  14. I've contacted an artist because I purchased a few of his prints and wanted to know if he could sign them from me. He replied a few months later and apologized for the late response. He said he gets tons of e-mails and mine must have gotten overlooked. Call the shop and ask what is the best way for communication with them. My shop requires an initial in person consultation. After that, if it is a big piece, you can call and set up random appointments. Don't get bummed until you actually call the shop or go there in person.
  15. In the last 3 years I have covered one leg from the knee down, done a full back piece, and a half sleeve on my arm. Now working on the other arm. I was in a job for years that would not allow it. I'm 51 now and feel the need to get all my ideas on skin quick.
  16. Starting my tennyo hagoromo piece. Finished the outline. Thinking about keeping wings black and grey and coloring the rest. Any thoughts? I was going to put some clouds in the background but I went pretty big with it so I could get some detail in. This subject is usually a back piece. I was kind of concerned about it being too much for the arm, but I'm pretty much in love with the way it turned out.
  17. Oh, you know all the nails shops are going to be bombarded with people wanted nail tattoos. My artist has been bombarded with koi fish lately. - - - Updated - - - I'm not in love with Chris because I know where he comes from. He co-founded the most egotistic shop in Omaha. Great artists there, but I can't handle the egos. I don't understand the blow outs he had with he first client and the issue he had with the neck tattoo not taking the ink. I am not an artist. I am a collector. Do artists really come across skin that is untattooable(if that's even a word)? My freckled friend has a few tattoos and her linework always sucks. Kind of broken in to dots. Her artists always blame it in her freckled skin. But then she has never gone to a quality artist for her tattoos.
  18. Chris ( the artist in the overalls) is from my home town and founded one of the early quality shops here. I've been going to a local viewing of the show. It is rumored that he wins or is in the finals. I have always followed the show because I will watch anything that shows tattoos. I like to think I have learned a little bit from the show on what to look for in a tattoo.I wish they spent more time on what ink they use and what kind of needles. The part I hate about the show is the time limit and of course, the drama. I don't know what respectable artist would promote doing a tattoo in a limited amount of time. Also I would never be a so called " canvas". I am pretty picky about the art that goes on my body.
  19. Well, I took it to my artist and he did his thing. Here is a photo of the outline. I'm pretty much in love with it. - - - Updated - - - Here is the photo.
  20. Don't really care. I have my shoulder to my arm on the outside of my arm. That is too much shyt to say. So I say half sleeve. Or I say Buddha. Or I say tattoo. I just got the other shoulder to arm covered on the outside of my arm 13'x8' lengthwise. What a headache. Shorten it up with 2 half sleeves.
  21. Update to this post. More things have come to light. There was no tattoo parlor. The students got tattoos in a hotel room under the watch of the teacher. So I am glad I got my daughters blood tested. But we have to wait 6 months since the blood was taken so soon after the tattoo.I did not pursue this with the school board. Other parents did and the teacher is being investigated. I don't like seeing people lose their jobs. But this "free spirit" teacher obviously has no limits.
