  1. I agree on doing what makes YOU happy.. Never been a huge fan of tattooing things that are 'fleeting' if you will, I mean in 30 years you may have forgotten most of breaking bad(which is a great show IMHO) and have a different opinion. I'll never discourage anyone from getting something that has meaning to them. I'm sure there are plenty of ppl who would though. I'm planning on getting a Dark Tower piece, the difference IMO ONLY is that this book series is the root of basically everything Stephen King has ever written and has a different historical significance, again just my opinion and am not trying to discourage you at all. I guess it's the same in some respects but different in others.. Any idea of what you want? I personally lean towards subtle VS lets say a logo.
  2. That's funny you say that because I was not picking my crest one day and my buddy says 'just get another and you'll quit thinking about it' Couple weeks later I got another and haven't given it much thought since.. I've started nit picking that one(the newest) and hopefully after Sunday ill stop. :weird:
  3. Ppl equate time to cost, in my exp different ppl pay different prices. maybe some artists don't like to talk about time because that opens the door for criticism like 'it could have been done faster' or 'you should have taken longer and done a better job' really its between the artist and client.. If either wishes to discus it when asked that's fine, if not, doesn't bother me.. If I can ask, what's the reasoning behind you asking the time it takes?
  4. As long as its not something that would look fucked up or simply not work it shouldn't be an issue. The art belongs to both client and artist and both should walk away happy with the piece. If something just isn't possible, it's just not and the client has to trust the artists expertise. I'd think any reputable artist is looking at the long term affects of changes or requests because when ppl ask who did the work good or bad it their reputation at stake. I'm no expert but in other mediums mixing colors can be touchy and the results unpredictable to some extent. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will chime in.

    Hello!

    Welcome to the show! :)
  6. I've herd that in respect to piercing but not tattoos.. Being that ppl far older then Jesus had tattoos, it wouldn't be unbelievable that 'Jesus' had a tattoo or two... ;)
  7. This feels like spam.. Could be wrong but feels like spam...
  8. I use Bing and Google for images.. Get creative with the key words.. There are endless images out there and also links to sites where specific images can be found.. Chances are the images you really want are out there or images your artist can tweak into tattooable images..
  9. Agreed, and between Bing images and Google images you should be able to come up a picture or two that's nearly identical. Nowadays nearly every make and model of car has its own dedicated forum, these are great for sourcing pictures.
  10. This.. I personally ask for tweaks, to make it unique in its own way
  11. I got my first piece in remembrance of my brother. He hung himself in 2010 in a small TX town.. He was terminally ill and dying slowly and painfully.. It was somewhat ironic he chose to hang himself as he had huge barbed wire noose tattooed around his neck.. He had many tattoos, some professional and some from prison.. Including him I have two brothers and two sister.. Him dead at 37 and a sister dead at 17. He was adopted and she was my step sister.. My other brother and sister are halves.. My adopted brother and were closer then the others combined, I won't bore you guys with that.. But Heath was wide open in everything he did.. 'Laugh now cry later' was his favorite saying, he truly lived with no regrets, maybe he had a few at the end.. So I got the drama masks as skulls on my left fore arm with banners that read 'brothers forever'. I've lost a lot of close friends and family in my short time and my left arm is dedicated to them, save for my ditch tiger.. All the ink on my left arm is my remembrance of them, some straight forward, some subtle... He is the reason I've always been fascinated with tattoos.. For me, each tattoo feels like the first because of its meaning, even though I'm talking it up with ray while he does his thing, in my mind I'm thinking about getting my first tattoo.. I'm not one to get something just because it 'looks cool', for now all my work will have meaning, even if its just a piece of flash like I'm planning on for Sunday.. Maybe once I catch up with the memories I'll start getting some things 'just because..' Anyways, there ya have it.
  12. I always go to ihop and get an omelet. My appointments are always noon on Sundays some I'm the first one in. Then it's home to relax and start healing up.

    Cover up

Posting pictures of what you want to cover will help with opinions, also posting some idea of what you want it to be covered with.. In the end consulting your artist face to face will determine what he/she can do.
  14. Straight lines, smooth shading, solid(full) color. Symmetry in things that should be symmetrical. Again I'm no expert and I'm sure our resident artists and experienced collectors can add/edit this list, but that's solid for me, a firm grasp of the basics.
  15. I'm no expert but his work looks fairly solid, I like the bear and the tiger.
  16. Awesome, lots off people talk about causes but its rare people actually get out and do something productive.
  17. Smart move! Healing takes time, I think everyone HATES the ugly phase.. Not just because its ugly, but I know I worry like you about color/ink loss.. Good luck and I'm sure it'll be fine.
  18. Are you following the artists/shops after care recommendations? Everyone heals differently and finding what works best for YOU can take several tries. I'd suggest talking to your artist the next time you go and discus it, they may have alternate methods for you or tweaks. Mine generally heal fully in 3 weeks or so.
  19. I think the idea is that ppl who choose to be tattooed are more open minded and less likely to judge ppl based on personal choices because being tattooed is a personal choice. As far as the shirts go I don't think they're too bad, I personally don't mind the publicity or however you wanna phrase it for tattooing. I get a lot of ppl like tattoos as an exclusive club or secret society if you will.. I get that, exclusivity but the price is prejudice. I also get that that CEO's(unless self employed) will never be the norm and ppl in sales and other public will generally not be visibly tattooed ppl, but the publicity has been good for those of us in the middle ground of 'blue collar' work. I work for Pepsi, there are lots of visibly tattooed ppl there, I've no way to know for sure but I'd be willing to bet the number of employees with visible work is many times higher then 50-40-30-20-10 years ago.. Not saying at all this is due to Steadfast Brands recent campaigns but there is some positive to this.. I'm old enough to remember when skateboarding was like this.. Suddenly all these stickers saying 'Skateboarding is not a crime' along with t-shirts etc.. Skating was 'pure' then and un commercialized but skaters were poor.. Now look at them.. Better boards etc etc and better paychecks.. It's not exactly the same, but its similar.. Appointments with the best artists are further and further out and prices up but that's a good thing for the long term of the craft..
