  1. I'm going to post some more pictures I found, and when I have time I'll try to find out who made all of these so I can credit them. I've been doing some research on kitsune since I decided they were cool tattoos. Some are considered servants of the deity Inari, and are considered more trustworthy than wild foxes. According to Japanese tales all foxes are capable of magic, however, and wild foxes can be both good or evil. Here are some links about foxes in case anyone wants them. Kitsune, Kumiho, Huli Jing, Fox - Fox spirits in Asia, and Asian fox spirits in the West Kitsune Lore Kitsune Kitsune Page - Myths and Ancient Stories - Japanese Kesa thru Kodansha Main/Kitsune - Television Tropes & Idioms I'm thinking of going down to the NYC tattoo convention to try to get this done. The website says the Horitoshi family will be there. I don't know how easy it will be to get something like this done though, I've never gotten a tattoo in my life and I've never been to a tattoo convention.
  2. I don't think the amount of work stolen has increased or declined, but the amount of publicity that stolen art gets has increased since the internet. For example, I know an illustrator whose painting was stolen by a Bollywood movie. He found out about it and ended up getting a lot of money by legally challenging them. Before the internet, somebody on the other side of the world could have created this movie with stolen work without the American artist ever finding out about it at all. The fact that everything is online is a good thing. Your point is that silence is consent. That's not a matter of opinion, it's factually wrong. Your work is yours the instant you create it, and anybody who tries to make money off of your work is breaking the law, no matter how silent you are.On the original subject of this thread... years ago I emailed the people in charge of M.C. Escher's copyright and asked them if I would be violating copyright by getting a tattoo of his work. They told me it would not be a violation. I'm not an expert on copyright law, so I don't know if this is true for every work of art. M.C. Escher is dead, if you're taking the work of an artist who is alive and trying to make a living it's definitely more disrespectful.
  3. Actually, blasting your work all over the internet is the best way to protect it. The more people can recognize your work, the more people will notice when it's been stolen, and complain about it if the need arises. Artists can't have a career without publicity, if nobody knows their work exists, nobody is going to buy it. The bottom line is, you're completely wrong and nobody who knows copyright law would agree with this, in fact I think the only people who would agree with your argument are people who have a habit of stealing art without giving credit.
  4. Bumping this to share some kitsune art I've found, hoping others will post more. This is a great subject for a tattoo, and not one I see often.

    Hello

I've done some searching on this website, and found plenty of other fat people with decent tattoos, so I suppose I'll be fine. I've wanted a dragon tattoo my whole life, but I have a problem. I'm kind of picky about dragons. All of the Japanese dragon tattoos I have seen look generic. It's hard to describe what I mean by that... I'll try to use examples. I think this dragon has character, but this doesn't. Don't get me wrong, it's a great tattoo, but it looks like every other dragon. I don't want the most original thing on Earth, and I think good execution is more important than being unique, but I don't want a design that is like everybody else's. I don't know, maybe I just haven't looked at enough dragon tattoos. I see more character in a lot of the snake tattoos I have found, for example this. How come all of the European style dragon tattoos I have seen look completely stupid? Does nobody have a decent one? They always seem to be either some tribal nonsense, or look like this. I'm going to attach a bunch of pictures of dragons that look cool. I've never seen tattoos like any of these.
  6. I'm lucky because every time I have ever talked to my parents about tattoos, they have never seem to disapprove of the idea, even though neither of them have any tattoos themselves. They were hippies and I think they are more open minded than most people. I think if more parents were like mine the world would have less ugly tattoos. A lot of kids seem to get badly thought out tattoos just for the sake of being somewhat rebellious. I never felt the need to do that as a teenager. However, my father thinks all tattoos except for the most simple are ugly, and my mother seems to think women look best with "feminine" tattoos. I don't have the same taste as them, but it's not a big deal.

    Hello

Thanks for the advice everyone! I definitely don't mind going to NYC, I've done that plenty of times. I'm also moving to LA in a year or so, so that gives me some more options. I wouldn't mind going even farther than that, I was actually considering saving up to go to Tattoo Temple in Hong Kong at one point. Although, after reading about tattoo longevity, I'm not sure if the brushstrokey stuff will hold up. I should add that part of the reason I'm hesitant to get a large tattoo is, I'm overweight. I'm afraid of what will happen to the tattoo if I lose weight. The wrist seems like a safer area than my torso, or even my upper arm. Although, I recently talked to somebody who lost a lot of weight and has a lot of tattoos, and she says as long as it's not on your stomach it won't be harmed.

    Hello

You're right. Like others pointed out, it's a nautilus. I think you are right that I don't really know what I want. I found this picture on a Nine Inch Nails forum, I think it is supposed to represent The Downward Spiral, but I have found a few other tattoos on the internet that are very similar so it's probably flash.Graeme, those tattoos are awesome. I especially like the one from Seth Wood. I've never seen anything like it. What I really want is something like an awesome dragon, or phoenix, something like that. I feel like I would need to take a lot of space on my body and find an exceptionally good artist to get anything even close to what I have in mind though. So I've been looking into smaller tattoos just for the sake of having a tattoo. I suppose I need to do more research even for something small, though. By the way I'm glad you guys are willing to be honest and tell me that the thing I found is boring. I don't like it when people are afraid to express their opinion, that's not helpful at all. Lately I have been saving all of the good tattoos I can find. I'm going to upload some of the ones I like the most. They are all different styles so I guess I'm not narrowing it down much.

    Hello

Hi, like I said I like to paint things, I'll attach an example of one of my digital paintings, to prove that I know what art looks like. I'm a 25 year old female and I have wanted a tattoo for my whole life, which is why I am here. I like this forum because it focuses on the artistic quality and longevity of tattoos, instead of just hyping the newest fads. I'll also attach an image of the most appealing tattoo idea I have found so far. This isn't a picture of me. I really like both the placement and the design. I like that it's simple and elegant, and it looks like something I won't need to find a super expensive artist to pull off. I'll need to figure out what to change so it isn't a complete rip off of what this guy has, though.
