I know your motivation for getting tattooed is a lot different than most people's, but still, I would wait until at least the mid 20s if I were you, before deciding to cover the entire back. I don't know much about otherkin or anything, will you still be interested in looking like a jaguar when you're 40? I guess I just can't relate so I'm sorry if that's a dumb question, but it's worth thinking about. What about a good shirt or jacket with jaguar print? Would that do the same thing, or does it have to be a tattoo? That being said, aesthetically, I don't think there's anything wrong with a jaguar print tattoo. If I were you I'd talk to people who are into doing blackwork, like this 2Spirit Tattoo | Blackwork & Dotwork Tattoos

Our Imperfect Skin: Scars, Stretch Marks, And More
Tesseracts replied to tatB's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Has anyone here ever tattooed over varicose veins or had them tattooed over? Is than an issue at all? I have some on my leg that I'm sick of looking at. -
I don't think it's dust, because he uses black fuzzballs to do things like shading and clouds on a lot of his tattoos. Well... fuzzballs probably isn't the right word, but I can't think a better one right now. It may be dust though. I saw the LST interview with him, and he said he used to do graffiti, so he's probably emulating the look of spray paint when he does this. To me it looks kind of like the void of outer space, or some sort of dark magic that sucks out the light.

Yep, I'm the one who found that thing, I'm glad people like it.I haven't read all of this thread yet, but I think it's a great idea. I have a question, does anyone else ever get the wrong type of attention for their tattoos? Today somebody on another website messaged me saying they like me because I'm "innovative," whatever that means, and then asked me if I'm a "tattoo freak." I don't know this person at all and don't seem to have anything in common with him, he doesn't even live on the same hemisphere. I don't mind if guys are into girls with tattoos or whatever, but I'm not used to getting unsolicited attention from strangers, and the way he's acting is odd.

Cultural Appropriation and tattoos
Tesseracts replied to Zillah's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I didn't say tattoos in general are racist, it depends on the tattoo and how it's interpreted. To use my example there's a lot of swastikas out there and plenty of people would assume those are racist. They would probably be wrong, but that's what they would think. I know if I get any tattoo at all a lot of people will assume I'm an idiot, and I can live with that, but I'd like to avoid having anyone think I'm a Nazi. -
Cultural Appropriation and tattoos
Tesseracts replied to Zillah's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
For me it's not all about what other people think. I wouldn't want something racist on my skin, even if nobody else ever sees it. I wouldn't get any kind of swastika, (even a non-Nazi one) on any part of the body, no matter how cool it looks. I just don't want it. I don't know how it's douchey to not want something. Although, I do also care what other people think. I'm not the world's biggest rebel and I'm not ok with strangers assuming I'm racist. -
I hate to say this but every time I see a woman with something degrading prominently tattooed on her, I wonder if she was forced into prostitution.

Our Imperfect Skin: Scars, Stretch Marks, And More
Tesseracts replied to tatB's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
This is sort of an unrelated question, but I have acne scars on my shoulders I want to cover. How socially acceptable is it to have a tattoo near your neck but not actually on your neck? Most shirts would probably show it. Some of my cystic acne scars seem difficult to cover, as they are dark purple, and all of the scars I see covered are lighter. -

I don't like the Native American pin ups either, they look like stereotypes. I don't judge anyone who has them, but if I was going to get a Native American tattoo I would want something that seems more real.Yeah, now that I think about it, I've known a couple of white guys who decided they want an "Asian girlfriend" without any thought about what the Asian girl is actually like as a human. I've also known genuine interracial relationships though so I try not to judge based on appearance. -
Cultural Appropriation and tattoos
Tesseracts replied to Zillah's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I admit I don't really see the issue with a white man who is into Asian women. What's the line between a preference and fetishization? Anyway, I'm glad this topic came up. Lately, I've been searching for Jondix tattoos and thinking it would be cool to have something like this. I have practiced transcendental meditation for a long time so I like the idea of a tattoo that depicts meditation, however I'm not Buddhist and I have no idea how Buddhists would feel about an image like this. I don't want to get a tattoo of something I don't feel like I understand. That being said I think a lot of people take attempts to not make a mockery out of someone's cultural history to such an extreme it no longer makes sense. I assume these blogs calling sugar skull tattoos racist are on tumblr. I go on tumblr a lot because it's a good place for images of tattoos and such. However, reading anything written on tumblr is generally a mistake. Tumblr is a breeding ground for the worst kind of "activists." Some of these social justice warriors go to such an extreme, it comes across as racism against white people. Sounds like they are making a lot of assumptions about the tattoo owner's ethnic background, cultural understanding, and reason for getting the tattoo based on their skin color alone. I'm not an expert on the day of the dead, but I thought the sugar skull was only a piece of candy eaten on that holiday, and I had no idea it was taken so seriously. I have some Mexican-American relatives and I doubt they would think this is offensive. -
My father described my tattoo as "kickass" which surprised me because he was against it before. He's not the type to lie to make me feel better so he must have genuinely changed his mind. :D

I don't do tattoos so maybe it's not my place... but I do digital illustrations, and many of my friends create pictures using computers for a living. I'm fully capable of painting in oils and other physical mediums, but I enjoy computers for their convenience, cost effectiveness and speed. It's an increasingly popular way to paint, but it still faces a lot of prejudice from people who don't understand technology and think digital artists are simpletons who merely press the "art" button. I know nothing about how feasible it is for a machine apply a tattoo to human skin, but I wouldn't dismiss it just because a machine is involved. I don't know how this hypothetical technology would work exactly, but I assume a human would create the design and a computer would help with the physical labor. If that's the case it would still be art created by a human. Not created by a computer. Computers are tools, they aren't replacements for people.

I doubt it, there seems to be a bit of a double standard going on. It's assumed that every decision a woman makes about the way she looks needs to be made for the approval of men, but the same standard isn't applied to men. Also, according to this women find tattoos less of a "turn-off" than men do, probably because tattoos are generally considered masculine. Tattoos on women are mens biggest turn-off ? women don't like beards - Odd News | newslite.tv

I thought about this, and decided I wouldn't want a relationship with anybody shallow enough to judge somebody by their tattoos alone. It's a useful filter to weed out people with incompatible values.

Horitomo Tattoo Cat Prints
Tesseracts replied to ironchef's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I'm not an expert but, I think Horitomo does tebori, and it seems like white turns out a lot better with tebori. I saw this guy's arm in person, and while the white parts aren't new, they haven't discolored or faded. Besides all of the objection to white tattoos I've seen is aimed at tattoos that are white only, not white tattoos with black outlines. -

I'm thinking of getting one on my other leg, it would match my fox. -
Thanks.Unrelated but... my cousin got a surface piercing right below her bellybutton. She is getting it removed because it's healing really weird... but I don't understand why she even got it in the first place. Why not just get a bellybutton piercing? What's the point of surface piercings? I feel like some people just want to look unique, and now that piercing is mainstream surface piercing is the only way they can stand out. Unfortunately the more unique the piercing is the more likely it's going to mess up your skin.

I took vicodin the day after I got my calf tattooed. That helped. I also tried it while actually getting the tattoo, did not help even slightly for that purpose unfortunately. I let the tattoo err on the side of being too dry, because the color dripping freaked me out. So far it's healed perfectly except for one bump that I complained about in the other thread, but that's probably nothing. As long as it only gets soft scabs and not hard scabs, it will be probably be ok.

New to the site with a question about a healing tat!
Tesseracts replied to jgarr610's topic in Initiation
I think the needs of people who want socially unacceptable tattoos need to be balanced with the needs of the people who create those tattoos. It's obviously not in their best interest if a 20 year old gets a blurry knuckle tattoo they regret, gets it lasered off, and tells all of their friends tattoos are for unemployable idiots who don't think things through. It would be better for the reputation of tattoos as a whole if people were encouraged to not make decisions that impair their lives. Most of the people who tell me they don't like tattoos, really mean they don't like bad tattoos. The less people get bad tattoos, the easier life is for everybody. I'm not saying all hand tattoos are bad or will ruin the wearer's life, but I see the real risk involved, I don't think it's about being cool enough to deserve it. I don't think the people on LST are Nazis. This isn't your forum or my forum and I think it's pretty reasonable for the regulars to explain why it's not a good subject, rather than just deleting my post without explanation as some people would do. -
The first is my favorite out of any phoenix/ho-o/fenghuang I've seen. It's by Bunshin Horitoshi. I think I want something like this. Next is Marcin Aleksander Surowiec, Kiku, and some by Shige. Then I uploaded some actual birds and the phoenix from Harry Potter. Don't know who did the print though.
