That Carlos Torres piece is obviously impressive, but it's nothing I'd want. I'd never seen that Byrne piece, but it's great. Edit: Byrne, not Boltz. Mixed up my Steves.

A firestorm to purify (the internet).

Nothing wrong with a good ole PMA tattoo. Welcome.

Welcome. Nice start on that back. I hope we can see it progress!

San Francisco July 2014
suburbanxcore replied to CultExciter's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
Can't wait to see some pics of this trip beyond what you guys already threw on IG. -
I'm down the shore for the weekend and spent a lot of time reading on the beach today. I finally had some time to start reading a book for pleasure (and not just for class). I started Moon Palace by Paul Auster. I like it so far, but I'm not sure where it's going quite yet Bonus: Grez from Kings Ave designed the cover. When I get tattooed by him next week I'm gonna ask a few questions about it. Haha. Also, this is the first time I've tried to upload a pic from my phone, so we'll see how this goes.
-
Yeah, these are definitely killer. He'll be at King's Avenue in July, and I'm bummed my tattoo fund will be too empty to get something between all the other tattoos I'll be getting this summer. Which I guess is a good problem to have. Haha.

July 2014 Tattoo of the Month Contest
suburbanxcore replied to Iwar's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
Everything is so good this month. Edit: Also, and not to say that crazy backpieces aren't great and deserve to win often, but it's nice when they don't scare everyone else off in the first ten posts. Haha. -
My buddy (short-lived poster @huggernaut) has an appt with Grez tomorrow. I'm super jealous, but it's ok since my appt is two weeks from today!
-
I have one tattoo from Grez, am getting another one on the 15th, and he's booked to do my left arm starting in January. I can't say enough good things about him and his work. Good choice. Welcome.

This thread is getting out of hand. First a rumor that tattoos hurt, and now one that says dragons kick ass? You guys are just getting silly.

I'm teaching an entry-level college reading course for kids who are just shy of the entrance criteria to the university. The primary course text is Frederick Douglass's narrative. I haven't read that in years, and it's nice to re-read it. There are a few other texts for the course as well, but the only other one I'm really into is Maus (a graphic novel). Pretty cool.

Because this thread makes me kinda jealous, I don't check it as much as I should. @DevilMan I like the fox a lot the way it is. There's a lot going on in that piece, and that lets it breathe a bit. @misterJ I can't wait to see how this progresses. @MikeL I feel like I missed some progress shots along the way, and I love how it's coming together. Pretty burly and super readable. I love it. Remind me, who is doing it?

Horitomo Tattoo Cat Prints
suburbanxcore replied to ironchef's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I didn't see it until now, but apparently @monmoncats is the official Horitomo monmon cat page acct instagram. The sakura cat head on the neck is awesome. -
Ah. Yeah, sorry. Didn't see this. Bandcamp is great. Just gives you a compressed file and you open, then add to iTunes. I love it. I feel like it gives bands and labels a little more control, and I'd assume they get a bigger cut of the pie than if you buy through iTunes. At least I hope. Haha. I'll have to check out Clearsight.
-
@Mick Weder I don't know if React Records puts all their stuff on iTunes or not, to be honest, but Praise's new LP (Lights Went Out) appears to be on there.
-
Welcome, and I as well can't wait to see pics of all of this stuff. Have a great trip.

Hate5Six is a killer site. That dude was (is?) based outta the Philly area, so I used to see him at almost every show filming. I think he's moved recently, but he still does a lot with This is Hardcore down here. The amount of work he puts in is incredible. I could (and do) spend hours on that site. New band alert: I posted it in the mid-year records thread, but I've recently gotten super into Praise. If you're into DC kinda hardcore, check them out. Lights Went Out | REACT! Records - - - Updated - - - Also, sorry @CultExciter, but Hellfest 05 being canceled was the best thing ever. It allowed me to see both Lifetime and Kid Dynamite reunions in smaller venues. Haha.
-
So far I've been really digging (in sorta order). Praise – Lights Went Out Beach Slang – Who Would Ever Want Anything So Broken? Patton Oswalt – Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time Nothing - Guilty of Everything The Lawrence Arms – Meetropole Against Me – Transgender Dysphoria Blues The Menzingers – Rented World Not out yet, but really looking forward to: Dikembe - Mediumship Cayetana - Nervous Like Me Restorations - LP3 The Holy Mess - Comfort in the Discord Prawn - Kingfisher Long story short, if a band is from Philadelphia or on Tiny Engines record, I'm probably into it. - - - Updated - - - I finally saw the Nirvana Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction with the girl from this band singing with them. It was kinda cool, and I'd like to check them out.

Agreed. He and Todd Noble both have underrated Japanese that people seem to miss. And yeah. He's fast as hell.
-
My regular artist just got a painting he commissioned from Whitehead, and it fucking rules. And I mean, I guess those other guys are ok, too.

The more this Genie talks, the more absurd it gets.

Some of my leg tattoos have been really quick, but the one on the side of my knee was the longest healing tattoo I think I've ever had. There was a few weeks where I was starting to get nervous about it. It ended up being just fine. Haha.
