  1. My daughter's rose done by Jack at Fate Tattoo in Columbus
  2. Salutation in matching font of the Title Page and a highly legible signature. Nice score! Not to tell you what to do but if it were me, I'd put that copy in a protective cover, frame the photo, and place the whole thing in a display case and buy a second one for reading. Think forward 20 or 40 years. You have quite the collectable. (Imagine if you had a pristine signed edition of Sailor Jerry Collin's book)!
  3. Therein lies the flaw in your logic. If you illegally download mine it is exactly the same thing as if you pocketed mine at the store instead of paying for it. That download didn't just "appear" out of thin air. Arguments against Intellectual Property Laws are childish and futile. The world ain't no sugar plum fairy, giving here to give you all the candy you want. As pointed out earlier, unless a person finds a way to copyright a tattoo, this sidebar has nothing to do with this forum and the conversation is closed.
  4. I gotta tell ya, I am a safety inspector and I visit a lot of factories. Most of these guys live hand-to-mouth and only have $20 or $50 for a tattoo and they're letting their babies go hungry by spending it on ink. They know their tattoos are shit but hey: "they're almost as good as the rich guy's tattoo, right?" And if life weren't so unfair to them they could afford their junk and good tattoos! They're a sad sector but they're everywhere. They live their fantasy just like we do, but at an entirely differently level. I was showing off my forearm the other day and was presented with a "You think that's good - take a look at this Baby!!!" His arm looked like most of the scratching shown in this thread. They're just as proud of their ink as we are. Their expectations are just....different.
  5. Agreed and my apologies. It's just hard not to respond to some uninformed "opinions". Sorry...
  6. So let's pretend that you are a professional musician who has to pay session members, studio time, production costs and distribution costs and some wanker copies your CD and sends you this little ditty. He is taking food out of your mouth and preventing you from providing for your family. Copying copyrighted material is not only criminal theft, it's morally corrupt and folks who do it deserve to have their asses kicked.
  7. Just more proof that the American public will watch literally anything. These "Reality based" programs are cheap to produce (no Actor's Union, no Writer's Guild, No Union Grips = no professional actors, no script, no sets). Scab TV.
  8. A phoenix rising from a stack of burning books maybe? This vintage poster from Farenheit 451 comes to mind. With all the NSA snooping and the POTUS rewriting history, it's a natural.
  9. There's something about her hair...
  10. I'm in Columbus and looking at Justin at Fate Tattoo near OSU. If there's an idiom that would be what I would like to know. Not acquainted enough with any Latinos to ask. (shrug)
  11. I lost my younger brother (Dumbass OD'd) 6 years ago. I would like to have a tattoo in the American Traditional Style. Perhaps a dagger through a heart with banner(s) reading "My Little Brother My Best Friend" in Spanish. My Google-Fu says the translation is "Mi Hermanito - Mi Mejor Amigo" Can anyone confirm? I want it in Spanish as my brother was perpetually pissed off that since he lived in L.A., he was expected to understand Spanish. It's a Brother Thing, you get it or you don't. lol Perhaps use this flash as a starting point? Any help and or any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, ~ Alan
  12. I see it all over the Internet and for the most part, I think - maybe hope is a better word - it's more photoshopped than real life. Or is it? Has anyone actually seen "No Regerts" or "Only God can Juge Me"? I can understand to a certain extent if something in another language has an error (although I would do a ton of research before I ended up with Chinese characters proclaiming "Peace, Love, Dog Soup"), but come on: "For Those I Love, I Will Sacrafice"??? Really? Anyone care to discuss?
  13. Thank you for the kind offer, but I haven't been to Cali since my brother passed. If you ever find yourself in Ohio, I'm in Columbus!
  14. Not paying much attention to "current trends" for several decades, I did notice all tragically hip wearing the sneakers, tee shirts, etc. everywhere with the Sailor Jerry inspired Ed Hardy work plastered on them a few years ago and thought maybe it was a son/nephew/relative cashing in. When did Don Ed Hardy drop his first name?
  15. Excellent advice, CG. As always, the artist's portfolio tells the truth...
  16. While brutal honesty is appreciated I have to ask if you intend the same fate for your own art? When new and for years after that tattoo looked exactly like the picture, down to the rich red fading into the orange and orange/yellow glow. Bad cellphone pic maybe. Jacked up tattoo definitely not!
  17. How did you choose that person? Obviously, if you ask most artists will say "sure, no problem" whether they have actually done it before or not.
  18. Most of my tattoos are 15 - 20 years old. I just took a photo of my stained glass dragon and then found the original artwork. Man, time flies! And time takes it's toll, too (Sorry kids. I'm your future, staring you in the face!). The question becomes - do I find someone to revitalize these antiques taking the chance that they may mess with the original mojo, or do I let the pieces continue to age alongside my fading skin?
  19. In 1998 I had a stained glass dragon piece done on the left side of my chest. One panel was yellow and it took three trips before the color stayed put. By the third sitting it felt like he was going after me with a belt sander!
  20. Mark Chatfield, right? After he left The Godz in 1980 he played for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band for quite awhile. The singer, Eric Moore is still in C-Bus and a bit of a sad case, playing in honky-tonks and trading on whatever celebrity had. Dude lived the life he sang about... The Godz were one of those 70's bands (and one of only a few from Columbus) that "missed it by that much" Glad you enjoyed it!
  21. We had exchanged emails and I had given him an idea of what I wanted done. In my mind I was thinking that 15 years ago this would have set me back about $200 and figured the number to be close to $300 if not higher. Like I said, I didn't feel like I got gipped. He had the time of drawing it up, setting up, and then we spent about 2 hours in the chair. And we have to do some touchup which will cost him another set of needles and maybe another hour. The thing is, like I said in the intro thread, I'm an older dude who thought my tattooing days were long over. "Back in the day" when I would talk to an artist he would explain the scope of the work and come right out with the price. In retrospect, when he asked me how much I wanted to spend, I should have countered with: "I dunno, I'm not the artist. What do you think is fair?" And when my 7 day probation is up, I'll post the piece in the gallery and you all can judge whether I should go back for my other forearm or find someone else...
  22. Nuttin' fancy. Inside forearm done by Dustin Hysell at Fate Tattoo in Columbus
  23. I also have a question about pricing and that is the way some artists approach the pricing question. After a discussion about the style, size, placement, color, etc., an artist who shall remain nameless says to me: "Well, how much were you looking to spend?" Now I'm thinking that this person should give me an estimate or a flat out price because when I said: "Oh no more than $300", he jumps on it with "Yeah - we can do it for that!" Is this a normal way of doing business in the 21st century? I don't feel like I got gipped but do wonder if he would have had the same answer if I said $200 or $250... I haggle over buying a car. I don't want to have to do the same thing when I get inked.
