  1. There is one coming up soon in NYC . I'm not sure if it's too late to get an appointment with these artist since they fill up very fast. They also do guest spots around that time at like invisible nyc. I know Horimitsu is doing some guest spots at Invisible. I would email these guys and see if they can fit you in. There are a couple of NYC tattooers that do traditional japanese like shinji and also kiku from invisible.
  2. I can't speak for him.. Wait list mean that the artist is tied down and can't really travel much and go to different conventions etc. I know for a fact he doesn't have an assistant so like I said I could only imagine how he chooses his appointments. Maybe next time you meet him you can ask him yourself about securing an appointment? or just keep on emailing him and hope for the best! I know for a fact if you put you name on a wait list at wooster they will email you when he comes to NYC. From there it's up to you to call the shop and secure an appointment. I'm sure he tattoos his friends yes!! Most artist tattoo other artist all the time!! I first started getting tattooed by a well know artist in South Florida that opened the door to another artist etc etc. With so many people wasting these guys time and cancelling when they find out the price or that they have to travel etc. I really don't know how they secure appointments. I too would tattoo mostly people i know and other artist. Then again I'm a nobody and I got an appointment with Tim. It's all in the email! Just be polite and maybe be open to a couple different designs. No back pieces or sleeves. Honestly he doesn't answer all my emails too. Also you have to catch him when he's in cali..
  3. Are you asking me how I got an appointment by him? Well I started out with an email like once a month then every three months or so. I think I also dropped another artist(S) names too. When I got tattooed by him he told me that he gets like 1000 emails a week by people asking for a tattoo. Plus he travels a lot for conventions and guest spots. He does all his appointments so if it were me I wouldn't be able to filter through all those emails without going crazy. I mean there is only a certain amount of time during the day and someone that busy isn't going to answer them all. He probably gets a lot of people wasting his time too. I wouldn't call it unorganized it's just how does someone pick and choose when they get so many emails?? He told me that persistence was one of the reasons why it worked out. Plus he loves to do traditional tattoos though he is known for realism. My tattoo was a traditional style cobra. Who wouldn't want to tattoo that? haha! My advice would be to polite but persistent. Be nice and say youre a serious tattoo collector. Just be advised you may have to travel to Costa Mesa California. He does travel and told me that he would hook me up if he ever came to NYC but.. I think you need to take the first step and travel before he gives you any special treatment. - - - Updated - - - honestly I think I just got extremely lucky!! On a side note he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your life. Super down to earth and cool!!
  4. who's going to this from NYC? My tattoo is in the exhibit and i'm off during those days but not sure if I want to travel that far for this. I really want to!! HA!
  5. I'm going to throw in Tim Hendricks in the list! It took about a year of persistent emailing! Well worth the wait!
  6. well I have.. Price is something that you shouldn't go by. Not knowing Dan so i can't judge his work and speed but. Form what I know some of the higher priced tattooers are super fast and efficient. While the price maybe less with another artist they might take longer and at the end the price will be the same. Example say an artist takes 40hrs to complete a full sleeve and charges less. Another artist take only 30 and charges more. Listen RG his tattoos are amazing! No one on this site will say anything but good things about him and his tattoos. Call the shop and set up a consolation and voice your concerns about your budget and check out in person the tattooers work. Do that with a couple artist .
  7. Yeah not sure about healing a scab like that usually to heal a scab it takes exposure to oxygen? I'm no doctor but... Next time I would do the tegaderm before you start the peeling . Like 10 to 15 hrs after your tattoo sitting
  8. NO tegaderm is meant to put on before you start peeling. Usually the next morning so there isn't too much plasma build up. I never heard anyone putting it on while peeling. Will it rip off your scabs.. not too sure about that but that its a possibility? Yes it is used for surgery recovery but not days after the surgery. It's not a good idea putting it on over scabs and peeling then removing it the next day. The adhesive is fairly strong that is one of the reasons you need to keep it on for at least 2 or 3 days. You may get some fairly extreme irritation..... It all depend on what part of your body but don't be surprised!
  9. I agree 5 to 6 hour seasons is really good! I could only imagine since I don't have a back piece YET. I could imagine ribs and other areas on the back is just as painful as the front. I think a min of 3 hours is a good idea otherwise the tattoo may take forever.. As far as pain strategy just make sure you eat sometime nice before hand. Also some candy or something with sugar. After marathon sittings I usually can't eat much because I feel like crap. Haha! Other than that just stay strong and "try" to relax! I heard loud music helps a bit, or maybe even some pain killers. Not going to recommend pain killers but I have friends that swear by them when getting tattoos in those special spots! Good news is after youre done with your back other areas such as thighs or upper arms will be nothing!!
  10. Chris is one of the best ! Like I said he only books a month ahead of time. I know that because he tattooed me twice. Both Incredible tattoos. RG is just as good but they have slightly different styles. Seems that price is driving you to Dan? Honestly I don't know his work so I cant correctly judge him. Go with what you can afford ! I would at least visit the shop and talk to the artist but that's just me. ! It's kinda like looking at cars on the internet there is a big difference when you see it up close. Anyway just some friendly advice! These artist are booked for a reason. Good Luck!
  11. Honestly I would go with the artist at Invisible or Kingsave. These shops have the best artist hands down. Waiting for any of these artist is totally worth it!! If you're not willing to wait best choice is Chris Garver or RG. Did you check these guys out? - - - Updated - - - It is totally up to you!! I feel that a tattoo is something you cannot be unsure about.. If I were you I would seriously check these guys out . Don't rush into a tattoo then regret it later. Anyway hope you find what you're looking for and best of luck!
  12. Actually the guys at Invisible NYC last time I checked . Chris Garver - Books only a month ahead, RG Regino Gonzales - 3 month waiting list, Kiku- not too sure. Anyone of these guys will do an amazing tattoo. Not just ok or good potential.HAHA! I agree the guys at kingsave (Mike Rubendall, Justin , Matt , Chris Odonell ) are all awesome but get ready to wait . Totally worth the wait btw. I Agree there is no excuse to get a tattoo by a so so artist. If you already put in a deposit I would strongly recommend to you forget about it. Maybe he will agree to give it back to you? Just tell him you changed your mind or something. Call ahead and ask if you could do a consultation with these guys. That is your best choice!
  13. Yeah definitely the day after. For various reasons!! The strips you buy at CVS are kinda useless because they are too small ! I personally like the 4x4 size or 6x8.
  14. Looks like it worked well for you. One thing .. next time make sure you overlap your tattoo with the tegaderm by an inch or so. That is why on the bottom it leaked a bit.
  15. Depends where you got tattooed.. Some areas like the ribs the skin is super sensitive etc. It takes a bit of time to take it off but not 20 mins!! On my ribs it hurt the most taking it off. I think it's totally worth a little pain you will see in about two weeks the benefits of using it. Being sore is totally natural with any aftercare . There are negatives with any aftercare but this by far the best. Let me know how it heals.
  16. Thanks @ironchef . Well for me I love all different styles of tattoos. With the exception of maybe tribal in most cases but i guess it looks good on certain people .. haha!! No but seriously... Getting a body suit or scattered tattoos by different artist is basically your taste. When I first started getting tattoos I never thought I would go with so much coverage. One thing I knew for sure was I didn't want a full body suit look only because I wanted tattoos from different artist . A body suit can be done by more than one artist but then you can't get traditional or black n grey stuff because it may clash... Honestly at this time I am trying to balance the two sides only in terms of coverage not in style. So far it is looking good! Mostly because Japanese tattoos have a black n grey background anyways so... Personally I think it looks great!! The one thing about tattoos is there really is no rules !! Do what you like and if you are really unsure then either wait until you are or maybe speak to an artist. I know people with both looks and I think it's really up to you!
  17. kingsave .. Mike Rubendall (very long waiting list), Chris O Donnell (not as long waiting list), Matt B, Justin, ect. If you are willing to travel to NYC then Chris Garver, RG , Kiku, from Invisible NYC. It's basically how long you want to wait for a tattoo. Some artist you have to wait for many years to get an appointment while others just a couple month or even weeks. I wouldn't base it all on cost and detail . I usually leave it up to the artist. Most japanese tattoos have a lot of detail and to get one without too much detail could be done but.. I would save up another month , year or whatever to get a tattoo from one of the best.
  18. totally!! why not? I stop asking about ballpark cost because there are too many factors on price. Usually when I guess I'm usually off! Same with when I ask they are usually off too. If it's that important then I would tell the artist your budget and see what he/she says.
  19. I don't think it's a bad tattoo at all. The only thing it's backwards so.. Curious did you artist tell you this? I have tattoos that aren't exactly flowing with others but it's no big deal.
  20. not a huge fan of abstract tattoos. Why not go for realism. It's just tattoo fade over time and without bold outlines it will become a little mottled over time.
  21. depends on the style .. japanese , traditional etc
