  1. I have to agree with you guys. There is some excellent work coming out of the Okey Doke. Franz Stefanik's work is top-notch. I know what you mean, Shaun, about his style compared to Tim's. I think anyone would be proud to sport his work on their skin.
  2. Another day, another trip to The Pearl. I'm working on filling in my right arm at the moment. Today Tim Pausinger added a couple of smaller tattoos. First, a very traditional "lucky" with four aces above it, and second, a sailor girl head that I've wanted for a long time now. I also had a couple of touch ups done, so I'm sitting here with both arms taped up tightly wondering how I am going to get a fork up to my mouth. /searches for a feed-bag
  3. I'd avoid an asshole, largely because I don't like giving my hard-earned cash to douche-bags. I've been tattooed by all kinds of types. Some are super friendly and talkative and others are the silent types - and a range in between. All are totally cool with me. Just don't be a dick! I've noticed a really unpleasant trend on instagram recently - some artists have taken to posting pics of their clients, mocking them for being fat or ugly, or generally dissing their choice of tattoos. That's fine, I guess, but I sure wouldn't go to their shop. It strikes me as an odd way to do business, but hey, its their choice.
  4. I use the term to describe myself sometimes. I never thought of it as being snooty, though. I just thought it referred to the efforts I have made to get tattooed by a range of people. I think as long as one doesn't use the term to try and be superior to other people, then its fine. As soon as ya start being douchy about it, then there is a problem.
  5. Hey - yes, they usually post on their website about visiting artists. I think they should get a Twitter feed up and running as well. I often miss guests because I forget to continually check their site. I haven't got a tattoo from Bill yet, but I am definitely going to. I'll report back afterwards. Good luck with your tattoos and yes, perhaps we will meet at The Pearl one of these days!
  6. I ended up in The Pearl again this weekend. Yesterday we really closed in on finishing my left arm. Only a few spots left at this point. Tim made a landscape with a palm tree in the foreground and added a little filler skull on the inside of my elbow. I have to say I am very pleased with the progress. One more session in June should wrap things up. I apologize for the crappy pictures.
  7. Hi @guitguy - great introduction. I'm in Toronto and I am a big fan of Tim Pausinger as well. In fact, The Pearl has several great tattooers and I am working towards getting tattoos from all of them (Bill Baker, Glennie W, Lissa Vino, India Amara, Tim Pausinger, Daniel Innes, and most recently, Nathan Draper.) I tend to stick to The Pearl and the guest tattooers they have coming through on a pretty regular basis. In the last few months they have had visits from Nick Collela, Mario Desa, and Nikki Lugo. I missed Mario last time, but managed to get in to see Nick and Nikki. Looking forward to hearing about your next foray into The Pearl.
  8. Welcome to Ontario and to the forum. (Toronto, here)
  9. Glennie from The Pearl finished off my left forearm yesterday with a little sparrow, a wee anchor, and a field of dots and stars. I am very pleased with the results.
  10. Ha! That is amazing work. What a killer first tattoo! Congratulations!
  11. I've got an appointment with Glennie at The Pearl tomorrow to finish off my left forearm. Fully stoked to get this done.
  12. Thank you for reading it so that I didn't have to, Graeme. My suspicions? Confirmed.
  13. Congratulations! It looks amazing. The convention trip seems to have been a major success for both of you. I can't wait to get something by Mario Desa. I missed him when he guested at The Pearl a few months ago. - - - Updated - - - Amazing work.you must be stoked.conratulations! How many more sessions, you think?
  14. It is, and it would be a frosty day in hell before I ever tattooed my employer's logo on my body.
  15. What a hassel. There have been some really good points made here. If it were me, I'd get it altered. But I would go to a different artsist.

    Book thread

I'm glad you reminded me about this book. Its buried in my "to-read" stack and I'd forgotten about it. Since spring has finally arrived maybe I should find a patio and start reading it. Or...maybe I should work on finishing this degree. I think I see which way this is going...
  17. I've spent the last year ordering and testing out various meads. To be honest, the best come from a small farm just north of Toronto, and from an amazing meadery in Quebec. A good friend of mine has recently started making mead at home and after a few false starts has turned out some very nice stuff.
