  1. Thanks, Graeme. I'll check it out. I suspect they'll have it at The Pearl. I did a quick check for the book online, but at over $1,000 CDN, I'll have to find someone who has a copy.
  2. The lower legs are pure evil to heal - especially on the back of the leg. Worst I've had so far. Worse than elbows, worse than arm ditches. (For me, at least.)
  3. I recently ran into a friend I hadn't seen in years. He was more than a little surprised by all the tattoos, but handled it pretty well. I could tell he was a little unsettled though.
  4. Excellent! I think you could probably take the rest of the week off, too - should your research go long! - - - Updated - - - Update @BrianH I just found the Dietzel books and ordered them. I still kick myself for not going to Great Lakes to see the Dietzel exhibit they ran through January.
  5. Thanks. We are looking for a wide selection of this sort of design. My wife is considering it as a tattoo, and I am interested to see how the design has changed and been modified over time. I'm curious to see what different artists have done with the design. - - - Updated - - - Thanks, Harry! (What Dietzel books do you have?)
  6. Thank you, @BrianH ! That is exactly the sort of design we are looking for. Am I right in thinking it originally came from a Dietzel design?
  7. Hi everyone, Perhaps someone can help - My wife and I have been pouring through images, including every page in this thread. We are looking for some pics or flash of a ladyhead in profile, with butterfly wings along the side and back of her head. I feel certain I have seen Mario Desa or maybe Valerie Vargas post tattoos like this, but I can't for the life of me turn anything up today. Any thoughts?
  8. Maybe my favourite Dead album. How'd the tattoo turn out? - - - Updated - - - My life is a series of impulsive tattoos!
  9. That's great, @BrianH! The life of a grad student is filled with ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I am at the end of the process (will hopefully defend my dissertation in the next 8 months), but it has been an amazing journey. Good luck and keep us posted!
  10. Starting my back piece in early April with Tim at The Pearl. He is working from an old Grimm design I've admired for the last few years. After my chest, I am a little apprehensive. In particular I am less and less interested in sitting for long sessions, but I will because in the end it will be amazing and totally worth it.
  11. I've got a new one on my lower leg and it is making wearing boots or shoes with tongues impossible. Slip on shoes for the next week or so. 10cm of snow expected in a day or so. Yay.
  12. I love this forum. Thanks everyone for being so great.
  13. Nice work! You must be pleased. Congrats.
  14. I'll toss in my new chest piece done by Tim Pausinger at the Pearl Harbor Gift Shop, for this month's contest.
  15. Hi and welcome, @thinkones You've certainly walked into a great shop. Tim is incredible. Congratulations on a great tattoo!
  16. Congratulations, @Russ ! What an amazing tattoo.
  17. I've rarely had to ask for changes, and the changes I made were very minor. The artist had no problem with the changes either. I learned to trust their advice and I have never been disappointed. @Pugilist provides a very good checklist in a recent post. Also, kindness, courtesy, and respect will go a long way, as both @HaydenRose and @irezumi noted. These are permanent designs, so it makes sense that we should be comfortable with what we get done. At the same time, people should take the time to find out how the process works and what the customs are in whatever shop you choose.
  18. I had a couple of nipple hits on my chest, and wow - that was evil. Evil.
