  1. Damn, thanks for those! That Marina piece is gorgeous. edit: just saw the one Valerie did on her website, probably goes without saying that it's just fantastic but I'll say it anyway. She asks not to re-blog from there, so you'll have to go dig for it yourselves. (It's easy to find...)
  2. Made my way through this whole thread, and now I'm starting to reconsider future tattoo placements so I can get a real back piece. Thanks a lot, LST! Also, does anyone have any more pictures of Bert Grimm Sundance tattoos? I know there was this one done by Nick Colella a few dozen pages back but I couldn't seem to find much else on the internet (especially not a full back). It's such a classic!
  3. I got my first tattoo at 19, and it was something I'd given serious thought to since after I moved off to college. After 2 semesters, I dropped out and moved to San Francisco, and got the tattoo a few months after that. I got a part of a bicycle frame called a drop out on my calf. It took another few months before I showed my parents, and my mom's reaction was, "Oh look, it's a drop out on our dropout!" Can't say I had made that connection before, but my mom still loves to point it out at family gatherings (I've since gone back to school). My others are real simple black outline-only business that my dad can tolerate because "at least it'll be easy to remove when you're 40!" I think they've come to accept that I'll get more tattoos, but I still go through the "what will mom and dad think" when trying to decide where they should go.
  4. Man, you leave this thread alone for a couple days and come back to almost a full sleeve worth of awesome!
  5. So good. I need to find some money and then a good excuse to get to New Jersey and let him work his magic. For the time being I'll have to settle for his music.
  6. Here's the complete Stoney documentary for those interested. Such a cool video, I love all of his old sideshow flash! Stoney Knows How
  7. Man, @Iwar and @living4today bringing some heat. It's not easy following a Kore Flatmo backpiece...
  8. It's OK on my Android phone, but the font's a bit blurry when enlarged. Definitely a bit of a strain on the eyes, but hey it's better than nothing!
  9. There are definitely cheaper options out there, and I was even a little turned off by the price initially, but once I took it out of the box I started to change my mind. My main concern was the composite handle, but it has a really nice weight to it and does grip very well. Plus, it's made in the USA, the blade is a nicer steel than you find on a lot of similar priced knives, and it comes with a lifetime warranty AND sharpening policy. If you hunt around Amazon you should be able to find one for around $70. I'm also not a big fan of Spyderco's cut-out instead of thumb stud opening, but that just comes down to personal preference.
  10. I know this thread has been dead for a little while, but I just picked up a Benchmade Mini Griptilian for EDC and holy crap do I like it. Great size, nice folding action, and the Axis lock feels real strong. It replaced one of these: Had the CRKT for over a year and while it's a great looking knife it leaves a little to be desired functionally. Before that I carried a Kershaw Leek that I liked, but the blade steel seemed pretty weak and dulled very quickly.
  11. I got an Amazon gift certificate from family over the holidays and picked up a copy of DeVita Unauthorized and a Benchmade Mini Griptilian folding knife as well as some random bits. Two of my better purchases in a long time, I find myself flipping through DeVita's work on an almost daily basis.
  12. Just re-watched it and still found myself smiling at the end, Marcus does a great job with these. Probably my favorite episode so far, just ahead of Austin. Also, for those of you who aren't already, you can follow @gypsy_gentleman on Instagram for updates from the road as well as new episode announcements.
  13. ^^^Yeah, that's fantastic! Nice traditional spin on Lady Liberty.
  14. Although I haven't been in myself (I'm planning on getting some work done in the near future), my friends have spent a fair amount of time at Fortune Tattoo (Portland) with Olivia Britz. I've started following her work and I'm pretty impressed. Might be worth a stop for you.
  15. Thanks guys. My first was by Gordon Combs, now tattooing at Seventh Son. Got a little upper arm piece from Kapten Hanna at Idle Hand a couple years after that, and then some script by Nikki Woltja when she was at Icon here in Portland. I'll get some pictures up eventually...
  16. Paris is up! Hell of an episode, but I can't wait for the hour long (!) Japan coming next. Marcus Kuhn's - The Gypsy Gentlemen - Home
  17. Hey everybody, been lurking for a little while now and figured it was about time to join. Recently relocated from San Francisco to Portland, OR, have collected a few tattoos and am starting to get more serious about it. I've already learned a lot from these forums and hope I'll be able to contribute a little something, too.
