  1. I think it's awesome, gives it a very "...to be continued" feel! Also, hell of a print collection.
  2. Seeing as today is Richard Stell Benefit Day eve, check this out: For more info on the benefit (and source of this pic): Update: Richard Stell Benefit This Saturday June 15th | TAM Blog
  3. That stand-up surfer (or whatever they're called) is awesome! And "they're mine and I like them" is perhaps most important.
  4. Anyone else see the wonderful irony of this in a tattoo documentary? But seriously, glad to hear it's coming soon!
  5. Farther away from Montreal, but maybe helpful for you: I believe Thomas Hooper will be tattooing at Rock of Ages in Austin, TX soon...
  6. I wonder if that butterfly started out attached...

    Hi Guys

    1. Welcome to LST, hope you enjoy it and learn a thing or two about good tattoos. 2. Give your tattoo a few weeks to heal before you start worrying about how it looks - the body does funny things to it before the ink really sets in. 3. Your artist's brash opinions may have stemmed from you asking for a copy of someone else's tattoo placed upside-down on your wrist. Typically the tattoo should be "right-side up" to the viewer, not the wearer.
  8. It's a very real (and very funny) problem. A friend of a friend had a big chest piece in olde english with a typo right below the throat, I think he got it covered recently. I have some small text in my first tattoo that I had the artist add to the original photo that was almost misspelled due to my crappy handwriting but he had me double and triple check it all so I was able to avoid that embarrassment (although I was nervous the whole time he was doing that part that it would still be wrong).
  9. An ass tattoo (of Bender no less!) seems like a great "welcome to your apprenticeship!"
  10. I lived in Sacramento for a minute and I do NOT miss that heat!
  11. Playing devil's advocate here, but I'm pretty sure he said that the tattoos Beaver got from other artists are shit and that he tattoed him before that. But yes, the article could use a bit of editing and fact-checking...
  12. @tacitapproval - that bird doesn't look so bad, and I bet a qualified artist could re-work it into something a bit more traditional and strong. As far as not covering the bands/text, just get a bunch of awesome tattoos around it and no one will even notice!
  13. @didar - just ask your artist beforehand if it's OK to listen to your own music as a distraction. You could also just plug one earbud in so you're still available to have a conversation if he/she needs your input on something.
  14. Yep, I completely agree. Reference material for this type of stuff is always cool to see. There's often even more hidden in those images that could otherwise go unnoticed. I feel like the best of these occult image tattoos also stand alone and are powerful without knowing where it came from.
  15. No matter what "deeper meaning" or statement I was trying to make with my earlier tattoos, they have come to simply represent my state of being at the moment I got the tattoo - the script on my arms says one thing, but the "meaning" has much more to do with the people and places surrounding me than a literal definition. The rose and dagger on my leg pretty much just means "I like good tattoos."
  16. Picture stolen from @Stewart Robson and the "On the Shoulders of Giants" blog. Done by Valerie, Stefano, Valerie again, and Stewart at Frith St.
  17. Just rented the streaming version from the Tattoo Nation website, it was a good watch! Nothing too new, but the compilation of images and clips was great and it was cool to hear Freddy, Ed, and Jack Rudy each tell their side of the story (from their respective sides of the state) and how they all felt the same "You can do that with a tattoo?!" about each others' work. EDIT: Super cool to hear about Jack Rudy and his start with "Good Time" Charlie Cartwright.
  18. Awesome, Deno's tattoos all have that certain something to them.
  19. (Speaking as a client and not an artist here, so feel free to ignore) For larger pieces (with multiple sittings), most shops I've been in require a deposit that is applied to the last sitting of the tattoo to ensure the customer actually returns to finish the piece. Makes perfect sense to me from both the artist's and customer's perspetive!
  20. The third version posted in the OP just looks so muddled and boring, especially compared to the original. As far as the Sailor Jerry argument goes, I've heard it said (forget where...) that the biggest reason Jerry's flash is so highly regarded is that it survived. Not to belittle his work at all, I do believe he was a real innovator, but there was similar stuff happening at the time (and earlier, see Cap Coleman) and his legacy is largely based on the fact that we still have a lot of his originals to credit.
  21. What the f***?! That looks like a recipe for disaster! Either cover-up with a new tattoo or go laser, that just looks awful.
  22. I know this is the Bad Tattoo sub-forum, but let's all take a moment to remember how fucking cool Freddy Corbin's face tattoos are.
