Hold it. Are you trying to tell me that you don't want to hear about how their faded tribal koi fish riding a unicorn the size of a dime on their shoulder blade reminds them of the frog that ran away when they were three years old????? You probably don't want to hear about their plans to get "tatted up" with a full body suit that they are planning to get done by the guy that does their brother-in-laws next door neighbor's scratching in his basement weekends when he's out of prison on work release. What kind of heartless person are you? :-)

I hate everybody so I just mumble a "yeah thanks" and wait for them to finish ringing up my groceries.

If you want to be able to hide a tattoo putting it on your head is one of the worst places you can choose.

I was always like "I won't go below elbow" then I did. Then I said "I wont go hands", then I did. I also said "I wouldn't do neck", and now I am. I never pictured getting a full suit when I first started getting tattooed, well, that has drastically changed. I plan to have full coverage other than face, I'm saving my back for the person I want to do it and when I can afford it. Other than that, it's just putting them where they will fit. My arms, legs etc are just pieced together... but my torso/back I want to be planned out and done as a full back piece. I guess you can't say never.

Would love to see some more out of this thread, my mentor drew up a pop tart fighting a lawn gnome holding a banana. It was pretty great, not sure where he has it now a days though.

I thought Season 2 was brutal to watch at times... The kind of 'characters' they got this time around was awkward to watch.
Especially having a name like "tatu baby". It hurts to even write it...

i think having the clients vote for the worst tattoo is a pretty rough idea. i understand they've chosen to get a free tattoo from some random ass artist who they don't get to pick and it's basically a crap shoot, but then to have all the other clients sit in a circle and talk shit about the tattoo you JUST got... still oozing... that's just gotta suck. "hey! our tattoos suck, but YOURS is definitely the worst."
at least, before, the unknowing clients could go home and enjoy their bad tattoos until they saw it on TV getting torn apart by the judges.

I wish I was the person that created that sound that's used in every reality show for when they start talking about something "bad" about to happen or what's coming up after the break.....it's literally in every single reality show. I saw a brief promo clip online of this stinkmasters and it has it too. hahaha

I use arches cold press and I love it. I've also recently started using Waverly liquid acrylics (previously I used FW exclusively) and I really enjoy them. I've been doing a ton of marker stuff lately but this thread is making me itch to get back to my liquid acrylics. When I transfer the image to the arches, I use a super fine nibbed pen, and after doing all the shading and color I go over all of the lines with a brush, and that's honestly my favorite part of the whole process. I'm not perfect at it but it's a fulfilling challenge I suppose. Here are a couple I did earlier in the year with Waverly liquid acrylics. Sorry if the images are huge >.<

Not another single visible tattoo, yet she gets her face inked, and inked in a way to guarantee her trouble in about any city.
Oh yeah.
I'm sorry if it makes me old, or lame, or judgmental, but the tattooer that dreamed this up should be shot.

Don't know if any of youse ever look at Yelp.com, it's kinda a local review site, if yer looking for a place to eat, or like that. Anyhow, CTC was reviewd on it, and someone posted a review talking about how great the work is, and what a righteous shop it is, but how they won't be back 'cause the tattooer they used didn't "bond" with them...
fuck me.

I live around the corner from a busy street shop that's one of the longest-running shops in the city. It's one of these no-appointments, first-come, first-served kind of places and they put on solid tattoos. They seem to tattoo a lot of people who are getting their first tattoo and probably don't really get how a tattoo shop works because I read a negative review of the shop online where the person was complaining about how they wanted to "try on" a whole bunch of stencils before deciding which one they wanted and they were mad that the tattooer wouldn't do it.

"I want to get writing".... Ok, what kind .... "I'm not sure....." Ok, well figure it out and come back.... "Can you just draw up like 5 different styles and I'll choose one?" Sure, down payment please... " I don't have that right now, I wont be getting the tattoo for a few months"

I have had pieces put on entirely free-hand, knowing ahead of time what it was that was going on, and roughly, how. That involved a whole level of trust that you just can't have with someone you haven't worked with, or someone who isn't a major, major tattooer.
If you are getting a large piece done, a sleeve, a backpiece, whatever, I don't think it out of line to have the whole thing laid-out on paper ahead of time. Doesn't necessarily have to be a stencil, but I'd sure want to see the tattoo in it's entirety before I committed to getting it done.
When I had my arm sleeved, I already had a decent amount of work on it. The tattoer that did it, Miles Maniaci, wrapped my arm in onion-sheet and traced the old work. A few weeks later he called me into the shop to see his design. I had given him some elements I wanted used, and he did the whole thing on the onion-sheet so that I could see how it looked on my arm. It was tits, and he started it the following week. About thirty-odd hours later, I had a sleeve that I'm still, ten years later, proud to wear.
Trust is the key element. If you don't know what someone's ideas and thoughts are for your work before they start, trust is hard to come by.

And calling me a total dick when you don't even know me is pretty lame, btw. I don't know who you have problems with at the shop or why, but I don't know you. You don't know me. Name calling on the Internet is chickenshit. In case you haven't noticed, vice magazine has a really good way with making people sound like assholes. The stuff I said was back and forth between myself and the writer through emails, without me knowing that it would be later be used in an interview. She contacted me to see of she could get in touch with the lady I tattooed, and ended up putting all my responses in interview form, which I suppose I should have read over prior to giving her permission to use it. But in the end, I'm not apologizing for doing my fucking job. And as far as "making everybody look bad"? To who? Explain who I made look bad here, other than myself.

McCaul got a reaction from hogg in Tattooers with little to no tattoos
Before I knew anything about tattooing, and was at my 1st apprenticeship. My mentor had half sleeves, and said he'd never get visible tattoos. I always thought it was a little odd, but thought no big deal. I later learned that it was a money machine for him, he had no care for the art. After he was done for the day, tattooing wasn't in his life. I learned that he was the wrong person for me to learn from, for various reasons. I have since found a much better shop and am happy where I am (Sorry for the offtrack ending). I DO think tattooers with little to no tattoos CAN produce good work, but I would rather be tattooed by someone who really knows what it's like...and has dedicated themselves to the craft.... my 0.02
