December 2013 Tattoo of the Month Contest
Shaun1105 replied to Iwar's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
Nope, you're welcome to join. My opinion is that tattoos posted early in the month have a slightly better chance to win though, so you might want to wait until January if you are thinking of posting today. Good luck! -
If you are in Indiana you must go to Black Anvil Tattoo in Fort Wayne. I stopped by there when I was in IN for a conference during the summer - super cool shop. The tattooers there are amazing also. Actually, I'm wearing the shirt I bought there as I type this. I will definitely go back and get a tattoo there someday. The artist you linked to looks like he does great work too. You'll be in good hands if you go with him. Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Tattoo artist in Edinburgh, Scotland?
Shaun1105 replied to Grant's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I got a tattoo there last May while on vacation. Recommended by a local tattooer who had guested there. I found that trying to google search for an artist in Scotland was fairly difficult due to the dual meaning of "tattoo"! -
Tattoo artist in Edinburgh, Scotland?

Alec Benjamin at Red Hot and Blue in Edinburgh. Or drive to Stirling and get something by someone at Lab Monkey Tattoo. -
Gym/Healthy turnover lifestyle tattoo design ?
Shaun1105 replied to scatterbrain92's topic in Tattoo Advice
You could get a panther tattoo. Then when people ask you what it means you could tell them how there was once a panther that was too fat and then too skinny but eventually sleek and powerful and awesome. -
Here is my latest. Done on Tuesday by Aaron Coleman (Immaculate Tattoo, Mesa AZ). I asked for a crawling panther plus "whatever, as long as it's fairly traditional". Got a sword and some roses and I am extremely pleased of course. Done in only 2.25 hours as I mentioned in the 'fastest tattooers' thread.
-
I didn't read through the whole thread, but has anyone mentioned Aaron Coleman? He did a quite large sized panther today on my calf ( ditch to ankle) in only 2.25 hrs. Don't worry, pics will be coming soon...

Pick the spot you want to get your first tattoo. Doesn't matter where it is, you can work from there. There is no right or wrong way to start that kind of collection (other than on your hand)!

Young tattooers currently killin' it!
Shaun1105 replied to cltattooing's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I can't seem to post links very easily from my wife's iPad - but I am a fan of Joe Ellis (Sacred Electric in Leeds, UK). He was an apprentice when I first became aware of him a couple years ago. For a sample of his work check out my Rock of Ages in my gallery. -
Plainskins say the darndest things...
Shaun1105 replied to TrixieFaux's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I have to say I totally agree with this. I can watch videos that have the sounds of a shop but there's no where else that the smell can be experienced! -
It's been a whole hour, what are you waiting for? :) Welcome to the forum!

Following my most recent tattoo I went for a very vigorous hike 24hrs later. Unintended due to scheduling issue (and I underestimated the difficulty of the hike). I definitely sweated quite profusely. The tattoo nevertheless healed perfectly. If you make sure nothing is rubbing the tattoo while you work out you should be fine. Just my opinion (and my skin) though so your mileage may vary.

Please can someone give me some advice ASAP?
Shaun1105 replied to Jadey286's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
If you got tatooed and weren't happy with it, why would you go back to the same artist? Pick out a new artist (let us know where you live and we can help with that) and go to see what they say about reworking your roses. -
Is "foul" some kind of Toronto-only slang for "awesome" that I'm not aware of? I was seriously thinking of attending Montreal in 2014 anyway (really wish I'd gone this year) but if there's any way I could be included in attempting to eat this I would be way in. When I saw the poutine my initial thought was that I would need the assistance of three others to eat it - maybe only two if they were accomplished eaters or if I was really hungry. Also - when I was watching the video and the timer was at the 12 minute mark I thought it was counting down from an hour. Can you believe how fast that guy put the first three quarters of that poutine away!?!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

It can hardly be all pinterest, as bad tattoos existed long, long before it. But I agree that pinterest helps them spread at an incredible rate. And I know pinterest isn't really 'for guys', or whatever - but I'm just trying to do my part to stop/slow the madness with this board. Good tattoos only - artists always credited.

Tattooing to be banned in France?
Shaun1105 replied to deadsp0t's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
The petition is to keep the use of coloured pigments. "Despite more lenient legislature currently in effect in Europe, the French government has decided to ban the use of the majority of colored tattooing inks, starting December 31, 2013." -
Not sure why I thought to do this tonight, but I decided to see how long of a drive it is to New York City and also to Montreal. Found out that from my house it's almost exactly the same length of trip (6h35mins vs 6h38mins). Driving to NYC to get a tattoo is something I definitely want to do someday, but it has always seemed so far away - I really thought it was more like an 8.5hr drive. Montreal, on the other hand, I've driven to several times (mostly for hockey games) and would definitely do again. I have the feeling that this knowledge is going to cost me money in the coming months/years.

Plainskins say the darndest things...
Shaun1105 replied to TrixieFaux's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
That's funny because on several occasions I've had people ask, "why did you get them so colourful?". -
Because, as Graeme says, it IS super cool! Snakes and roses make great tattoo imagery - I'm sure you can easily find a few dozen excellent examples either here on LST or in the portfolios of good artists. It's a combo that's been done before but your artist will put their own touch on it. I guess mostly I picked snake and rose because that's the tattoo I would clearly choose of the three, but of course I don't have the connection to the others as you do. Whichever you choose, be sure to let us see pics of it!
-
I think your first tattoo is a decision you will kind of have to make on your own. Are you researching excellent tattooers in your area? If you take this list in when you book your appointment you could see which one he or she connects with most, or is most interested to do. ....Ok even though I said you should make the decision yourself I vote for rattlesnake and rose.

I absolutely agree! The eyes are key - they are best when wide and panicked, not angry or sleepy. These eyes are perfect.
