Someone recommended that I post up my latest tattoo on this forum so here goes. I am almost done with my half sleeve from Horitomo. Although a phoenix is colorful, I'm a big fan of black/grey tattoos so that's what I went with. I was on his waiting list for 2 years before I stepped foot into State of Grace in San Jose, Ca. (I fly from Dallas and do back to back sessions). He is one of the few people I know in the U.S. that does tebori so after 28 hours this is what I have. I took this picture straight from his instagram.

12 hour session with Silvano Fiato but we didn't have enough time to finish the top part of the ladies head so back in August.....:)

I felt the same way after being introduced to Kore Flatmo's work. His skulls and roses really stood out to me and kind of set a standard by which I personally view other tattoos of the same nature. I do this with certain elements or images from different tattoo artists as well. Another example would be Shige's hannya masks, I love hannya mask tattoos in general but his really appeal to me.

I do this with certain elements or images from different tattoo artists as well. Another example would be Shige's hannya masks, I love hannya mask tattoos in general but his really appeal to me.

Once I saw Kore's work, it took about two days to decide that half of my body would be getting tattooed by him. He is the standard I measure other tattooers and work by. Something about the way he lays out his work is super aggressive and super simple at the same time. It helps that I feel like he is an example of how people should act and conduct themselves, not only in tattooing, but in life.
Shige used to do it for me. I felt that way about Shige for a long time before I knew about Kore. When Shige started working with Jeff Gogue more, I started liking his work less. I feel like Shige has gotten to far out into neo-traditional Japanese for my taste.

So, this happened this evening:

Done by Richard Pinch in Aberdeen Scotland. Got the Foo Dog done last year and always wish I went bigger. Richard added all the background and more flowers and I think it fits my back a lot better now. Very happy with it. There is another chrysanthemum going in on my ribs that you can't quite see.
The flower on my hip will be the same colour as the one on my inner biceps, dark reddish. The yellow on the spots on dog will also be getting more dark tones too, like the mane.
Very, very happy with it but also slightly freaked out at the size of the tattoo on my back now!

Well for whatever reason Mr. Conn isn't replying to our emails. Having heard that he's charging $500 an hour though, I kind of don't care now. Anything I'd want from him would be at least a two hour deal and there's no way I'd pay anyone $1000 for a hand sized tattoo. Fuck that. He's an amazing artist but I can get just as good of a tattoo from Mike Wilson, in the same town I live for $150 an hour.

LOL, I can't stop laughing at this one!
