So far I've collected: Bloodwork: Bodies the Tattootime reissue All the Horimouja sketchbooks Filip Leu - Dragons 1 and 2 Gomineko Book's Japanese Mythical Creatures The Japanese Tattoo Bushido Backpiece Tattoo Tattoo History source book Suits Made to Fit All are great! It's hard to keep up with all the new books coming out when you're a student!

I always find it strange when people who aren't exposed to/have interest in tattoos have such difficulty determining the image tattooed on a person. If you show them the same image on a piece of paper, they could point out the constituents of the image with no problem, but the second it's on skin they seem to lose all ability to differentiate between the elements comprising the image.

Best video so far! I wish they would do a full length Tattoo Age on Horiyoshi! I'm also hoping for a Henning Jorgensen, Filip Leu or Jeff Gogue ones!

Holy Big Dogz Batman!

I agree with this as well. I remember when I first got into his work there was a huge influence from Filip Leu (whom I plan on getting large scale work from), but that has waned over the last 4-5 years or so.

I felt the same way after being introduced to Kore Flatmo's work. His skulls and roses really stood out to me and kind of set a standard by which I personally view other tattoos of the same nature. I do this with certain elements or images from different tattoo artists as well. Another example would be Shige's hannya masks, I love hannya mask tattoos in general but his really appeal to me.

Just found this thread! I like the stuff that the Buena Vista Tattoo Club puts out. I wouldn't get it, but a well executed tattoo in that style would most definitely catch my eye/interest over a traditional style tattoo if I saw it on someone in person.

Ahhhh shit, I just saw the preference for traditional. I was going to recommend Steve Moore, he's awesome!

I LOVE Aaron Bells work! Amazing! My favourite Dragon by Shige. Fits her body perfectly!

Marcus Kuhn's New Project

Watched the first one last night! It was a fun watch but the music was way too loud at some points. It was as if I had two videos playing at the same time. Going to check out another episode today!- 197 replies

That is a good point, it would be interesting to see older work from some of the guys who have a style that is set in stone now (like Jesse Smith). I guess I just find the whole premise of the show silly. I don't think there is a best tattoo artist, only artists who excel at different styles. From there it is just personal preference on the client's part.

@robz Looks awesome man!

Isn't that usually how it goes with top tier artists? I mean, I'm sure they could do other styles to some extent, but you wouldn't go to Horiyoshi III for a traditional american piece, just like you wouldn't go to someone like Guy Aitchison for a traditional Japanese piece. Everyone has their style that they stick to and that is what brings in their clientèle. When I'm looking for an artist to do some work for me, I'm looking for someone who does one particular style extremely well, not a bunch of them half-assed. Why would I care what they can do in another style I'm not interested in getting?

I'm doing the same when I go to see him in February! I'm getting a sleeve done though, so it shouldn't be too too bad, save for the ditch and elbow. Good luck!

This is on my foot! It's a little distorted from the swelling in this picture. This is the only healed one I have, just of the blood: I found the foot excruciating! I'm so glad my next appointment is on the arm.
