@bongsau I am sorry for your loss! Lovely that you are continuing tradition, and respected by the students as well. Congrats :). Incidentally, I am going to Shanghai next month! Via Anchorage, actually, which means I might have to pay a visit to @Deb Yarian and get tattooed in nearby Eagle River, if my dates work out! We shall see. :) So Anchorage --> Shanghai --> Anchorage --> San Francisco! Any tattoo tips in Shanghai? Or cool tattoo-y things to check out? Cool stuff in general, if anyone knows anything!

Haha, I see what you mean re patience!! Love his work. I met him at the Bay Area convention when I was being tattooed by Rob Ryan. Funny because he had been looking at photos of my back the night before with Junii et al and discussing snakes vs snake + hannya etc - it was a pretty funny "Oh, that's *your* back!" and "Oh, *you're* Brian!" exchange, especially considering I was pretty much post-verbal from too many endorphins/too much tattooing in one day. You gonna get some awesome peonies, girl.

Who do you hope to do your peonies, @Pugilist? I can think of a couple of east coasters I'd loooove some peonies from!

Ahaha the first book of his that I ordered - I *knew* there would be shibari, but I just didn't realize that it would be ALL of it, hahaha. Which I'm cool with, I was just a little surprised! (And opened it eagerly in front of a bunch of friends who saw only erotic art, and no tattoos...it was pretty funny). The next time a book came in the mail, I was prepared :p. Hehehe I am just imagining your face after that first google and it's making me giggle >:)

About the period thing...I have been tattooed while on it and it SUCKED. (But it really didn't suck anymore than the first few days suck anyway). Not only that, it was a two day session and focused on my lower back :/ But I'm kind of whiny when my hormones are in revolt, soo... But as much as it sucked, it was also okay. Ladies, if you can get through those miserable few days (I am usually pretty miserable!) then you will have no problem getting tattooed in addition to getting through through the tough days. If you have really difficult periods (due to endometriosis etc) then i would just wait and let your body focus on one thing at a time. But honestly, it ain't no thang. I also preload ibuprofen, echinacea, all sorts of goodness for my body when I know I'm going to be tattooed, anyway. My .02

American Gods is one of my all time favorites. I read it once a year, and I also regularly listen to the book on tape - it's a really well done book/tape. <3 Neil Gaiman. Lucky you, getting to it for the first time!

Two years is plenty of time to get on your dream tattooer's waiting list ;). As far as one shot pieces - roses, anchors, lady heads, skulls, snakes, daggers, panthers, eagles - I guess anything can be a one shot done small enough, but apparently I immediately default to traditional, haha. But those pieces can loan themselves to one shots and still be sort of cohesive in the end, when you have a bunch of them. - - - Updated - - - Ahahaha @Graeme and I simul-posted!

@Zillah that is an awful experience! I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I've been lucky and have had mostly awesome experiences and nothing violating like that. So sorry.
