I can't imagine wanting to stop getting tattooed, as someone said earlier in the thread, it's not just about the tattoo but the people i've met and got to know over those hours sat in the shop is the greatest part of it. Also getting to see all the artwork on display and going to conventions to find new artists is too exciting to consider not doing it anymore!

How about an art show?
captaincabinet replied to JasonWalstrom's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I did this one the other night to try to practice black shading with the FW liquid acrylics as I find it goes from dark to light really quickly sometimes. Still practice need but it's an improvement I think.- 500 replies

Painting Methods & Materials
captaincabinet replied to Bryan Burk's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
@Graeme I have recently started using the FW acrylics as I was told that they were light fast in comparison to the PH Martins that I had been using previously which apparently don't last long at all if exposed to UV. I got a water brush and also had trouble with it and have gone back to regular spit shading for the most part. I might give arches another go in the future if I can afford it! -
"The Sitdown"

Yeah I picked up on that, does seem that a lot of people doing traditional work over here are going for heavier annd heavier lines. Looking forward to watching this! -

How about an art show?
captaincabinet replied to JasonWalstrom's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I have been trying to teach myself to paint over the last 6 - 12 months and these are probably my least crappy attempts so far. Still a long way to go but thought I would stick them here as I didn't realise there was a thread for this!- 500 replies

I tried out the new FW acrylics I got last night. Still some PH Martins watercolour in there as I haven't been able to get all the colours I need yet! -

I've been thinking about getting one of those brushes for a while since I noticed people at Rain City in Manchester getting good results with them. Going to look for one today! -
Post awesome things you have been doing recently
captaincabinet replied to irezumi's topic in Random Crap
That's awesome. I was sent a link to an article about making a light box from an ikea coffee table and was thinking of hacking away at the table at home but I don't think my girlfriend would be too happy when she realises! -
Rock of Ages Tattoo Design
captaincabinet replied to Lochlan's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I think I’m leaning towards the Rock of Ages being what I eventually go for as a back piece. Ever since I read through the back piece threads I have been thinking about what I would eventually want to do and can’t think of any other design I would rather fill my back with.- 173 replies

I want to do my stomach soon, love the pharaoh's horses but went for a smaller version on my arm as I don't think I have enough room under my chest piece to do it justice! I have a black and gray gypsy girl on my chest and still don't know what to put on my stomach. Eagle? haha

@Lochlan yeah, thanks, i've been watching all the interviews and searching the blogs but have only seen a fraction so far! Can only get away with so much at my desk!

Painting Methods & Materials
captaincabinet replied to Bryan Burk's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I tried arches hot press out of curiosity but didn't get on with it. If I'm feeling flush one day I might try the cold press. I like the Langton Press stuff. I have tried the standard and the Langton Prestige but I'm still learning so most of my frustrations are with my technique rather than the materials I guess! -

Painting Methods & Materials
captaincabinet replied to Bryan Burk's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
I have tried tons of lining pens and not found anything that i'm totally happy with. I like sharpie's but only for the first painting as no matter what paper I use it pretty much destroys the tip and the line just gets heavier and heavier. I bought some Copic multiliners and a brush tip and I like them so far. They are the only ones I have found with a 1mm tip and they don't smear with water/inks. Where the lines go dull I tend to just re-do them after I am done painting. I am trying out some new inks and colours and will try to post the results when I'm done!
