I really want to get tattooed by Trocchio sometime this year. I was leaning towards him anyway but then I talked to Ron Henry Wells about him (Ron has a super rad HP Lovecraft tattoo from him) and now I am totally convinced.

I had a deep fried Mars bar for the first time last night and it was amazing. I lived in Scotland for three years and figured that shit was just for the tourists but if I knew how delicious they actually are I would have taken advantage of that shit all the time.

That's good to know because the linework hasn't been so bad so far. He's lined the easy bits...shoulder, outer bicep, over the elbow onto the forearm, with some lines around the ditch...but he's so fast that he's at least not going to spend a huge amount of time on any one spot. Anyway, I'm getting super psyched for it, can't wait. When's your next session with him?

I'm doing the seven hour Montreal-NYC drive right now and I feel fortunate that my artist is within driving distance because it allows me to get large work. I don't think I would be as willing to do that if flights are involved because there's no such thing as cheap airfare in Canada. But with the right artist and idea, who knows? I didn't think I'd be going to New York as much as I am.

Yep, doing five or six hours on it. We should finish lining it and start with the shading. I am super excited and simultaneously dreading it as Thomas said that the shading sessions are going to be "brutal".

I made a really good Mexican pork stew last week as well from a recipe in Rick Bayless' Authentic Mexican cookbook. It was so good. I made up a batch of fresh Mexican chorizo for it and cooked up the last of that a couple of days ago to make a pork, chorizo, and sweet potato cobbler. A picture of that:

If you start posting here, chances are that you're going to eventually end up thinking that getting a full body suit is a totally normal and rational thing to do. Not saying that's a problem, just saying. Welcome to LST.

So many tattoos on people I've never met that I'm excited for! Really looking forward to hearing how the start of @ian 's back went too. I guess about a week and a half until the next session on my arm, really looking forward to that because while I love what I have there now, I want to see where this tattoo is going next.

Tattoo Culture Magazine
Graeme replied to Graeme's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
Yeah I know but I figured that this should have its own thread. Agreed on the print version. I'd much rather look at photos in a book or in a magazine than on a screen and I'm not sure how I feel about online magazines as I've never really read one, but I think there's a lot of potential here nevertheless. -
It's been hard to miss the announcements about this all over instagram recently, who is excited for it? I'm really looking forward to it and am really hopeful that this is a proper non-professional equivalent to Tattoo Artist Magazine and while it's maybe unrealistic to expect the depth of that magazine (when I was last getting tattooed I looked at the issue featuring State of Grace, and they had something like a 50 page feature on that shop, and while I would personally love to be able to have access to things like that I think it would be alienating to the vast majority of people who are interested enough in tattoos to read a magazine about them) I hope it offers real substance for people serious about tattoos, and can help educate people about good tattoos.

That rules and ties together WAY better than you would expect it to. Stating the obvious here, but Kore Flatmo's tattoos are so smooth.

All awesome! What are you getting from Seth? His tattoos are always awesome but I feel that he's been especially killing it lately with the giant tattoos he's been doing.

Backpiece is cool and all, but I really dig that Hitchcock tattoo.

Ah, thanks for reminding me about the iTunesU suggestion!

Hey buddy, slow down and focus more on getting good tattoos. I hope you find this place useful.

Hey, welcome to LST. I recently bought Bushido and haven't say down to properly read it yet but it looks pretty good in explaining the context of traditional Japanese tattoos, especially in relation to the samurai ethos, and there is a lot of good general information about the Japanese tattoo there. It really heavily focuses on Horiyoshi 3 and there are a lot of photos of his tattoos as well as some of his paintings. It's inexpensive and I think worth owning. There's a lot of good information here: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-designs-books-flash/3435-japanese-symbolism.html And your best source for books about Japanese tattoos and reference is Gomeniko Books: Japanese Tattoo Art Design Book Magazine Gomineko Japan Crystal Morey does the convention circuit and brings her books with her and she has so much cool stuff. She also gives seminars.

Dave Cummings, PSC. I know this thread is mainly tall ships, but the water on this one is so rad that I have to share it.

The beer itself was fine to begin with but the samples were dosed with something like this: FlavorActiV Enthusiast Kit and Craft Brewing Sensory Kit You wouldn't ever find some of those off-flavours in a beer that made it to the market. At least I hope not.

I thought that the first rule of Roper is that you don't talk about Roper.

Some great looking tattoos you have there, I hope you like it here.

I had a beer tasting course at work today. I've been on other tasting courses but this one was the most thorough I've been on and, goddamn, we tasted some truly horrible things. The course was on the detection of flavour faults so we had beer samples spiked with different chemical compounds to mimic different faults, but instead of sticking to the usual ones that you would normally find, we got a whole bunch of really gnarly ones like mold, mercaptan (think rotten cabbage), butyric acid (think vomit and putrefaction), coliform (fecal matter), and so on. Delightful.

Welcome. Stay well away from your friend's brother because that will not go well for you. There are so many amazing people tattooing in California, lurk around here, learn about them, and get an amazing tattoo from one of them instead.
