An "I don't know" that is going to be super rad though.

There's a fat guy bartender who works at a barbecue joint in town who has KING SIZE tattooed across his. I like that one a lot.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't anybody doing great dotwork around here. I'm sure she could find somebody to do it, and I'm sure somebody could do an okay job of it, but she'd really be better off finding somebody who specialises in it. If she's really set on dotwork, and doesn't want to travel much (Cory Ferguson in Oakville, ON is pretty great, in my opinion, but she'd need to travel to Oakville, and if you're travelling that distance, you might as well look at NYC), Mikel who normally tattoos in Victoria, BC is going to be at the Montreal convention in September and he does really nice tribal/dotwork/blackwork tattoos. I think he's friends with the Tattoomania crew so I'd also keep an eye out for him doing guest spots here. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong with Tattoomania and Imago in Montreal.

A trip to Electric Tattoo is hopefully in my not-so-distant future so thanks for those recommendations.

NYC Tattoo Convention May 17-19th 2013
Graeme replied to slayer9019's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
Since you're in New Brunswick, you should hit up the Montreal convention in September. It's put on by Val and Pierre from Tattoomania and from what I understand from talking to artists who have tattooed there, it's a good convention. It isn't too big, and it's by invite-only so there's great artists, and I always have a really good impression of it in that people seem to get along and have a fun time there. I love it as a non-tattooer, it's a great time. -
NY Times article on Tattoos in the Workplace
Graeme replied to ironchef's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
I'm convinced that a good part of what passes for journalism these days is basically trolling. A lazy article about tattoos is going to get shared quite a bit on social media, people are going to leave plenty of stupid comments on the article, and the newspaper is gleeful that they just got a ton of hits for an article that took five minutes and no research to put together. -
I've been on a big Maiden kick lately. Lots of Seventh Son.

If I ever start shaving I would like to get into this kind of stuff. I haven't shaved in almost twelve years though, don't see myself starting anytime soon.
-
To be clear, when the paper talked about "how dangerous" they said that if you get an epidural through a coloured tattoo YOU WILL DIE and then two thirds of the way through the article said that there is actually zero evidence in the medical literature to support that.

I hear you on that! Me and @Pugilist are set to finish our tattoos there in June and I'm simultaneously going to miss going there and be glad that we'll be done with the long drives there and back. We do have a wedding to go to in NYC in September though...we're considering our tattoo options for then.

You're talking about this with your artist, which is what you should be doing. Soliciting advice from complete strangers on the internet is weird, and quite frankly, if you need to do that you probably shouldn't be getting tattooed anyway.
-
One day perhaps! I'm excited for this convention because there will be so many amazing tattooers at it.
-
Me and @Pugilist will be there. Who wants to meet up?
-
If anybody was maybe a little bit hesitant about going, they just announced that Filip Leu and the Leu Family Iron are going to be attending this year. I am super excited for this!

Currently in the market for prints and originals
Graeme replied to slayer9019's topic in Paintings and Prints
That stuff is all really nice. It's unfortunately a bit expensive for me right now (I think the prices are totally reasonable for limited editions, it's just that I'm spending all my money on tattoos at the moment) but I would love to own something that Raking Lights prints eventually. @Pugilist got lucky and got a set of those four recently released Horitomo cat prints, which we will add to the two I bought from Tattoo Elite International. We're going to have a wall of all Horitomo cats. -
That doesn't look like a barber pole, that looks like a dick. Oh wait, you're talking about tattoos, right?
-
You and Stephanie blasted through that tattoo pretty quickly! Can't wait to see pictures of the finished tattoo.

If I was going to get a comic book tattoo and I could go to absolutely anybody in the world, I would probably go to Dave Waugh. Just saying.

He isn't in New York anymore, but Tony D'Annessa is in Montreal and still tattoos. I don't know how many other guys who have been tattooing 50+ years are still around, so getting tattooed by him is something really special. He's at PSC Tattoo...I think he can be kind of hard to pin down because he won't make appointments and I think may only tattoo when he feels like it, but I think he's well worth the effort, especially if you're trying to collect from old guys.

The beauty of snake tattoos is that you can put them anywhere. They fit in any space. I only have one snake tattooed on me right now, and this is not nearly enough. Need more snakes.
-
In retrospect, this post is actually pretty funny. Three days ago your "creative well is empty" and now you have two new tattoos. Awesome.

Welcome Tammy. The lower leg can be a difficult spot to heal, so just be patient, keep it clean, don't baby it too much, and you should be okay. And yeah, a lot of people have stupid opinions about tattoos and the worst thing about it is that they think they have this completely original and brilliant insight when they tell you that your skin is eventually going to sag. Fuck 'em.
