Oops didn't see the Tom of Finland reference above.
-
There are some really great Tom of Finland style man heads out there though.
-
I can't find the post right now, but somebody here posted a video of old NY/NJ tattooers sitting down and talking and they said pretty much the same thing about line thickness. The one tattoo I have from an old guy (ie he's been tattooing over 50 years) is done with thin lines. I also have some really thick lined stuff on me, it's a much larger tattoo though. That monkey Jesus looks like it was made to get Instagram likes.

@graybones I forgot that there's another Dave Cummings! I hope you still have a job after finding the other one at work. But yeah, Dave's tattoos fucking rule and the pictures of them really do them no justice. @Diehardonvhs We'll go down to the back of my thighs. Right now, starting in July, I have monthly appointments booked until the end of 2014, but it will go into 2015 for sure. Yours looks fucking amazing from the little I've seen of it on IG. Who's doing it? @SStu We'll see. I was super into it with a snake but he showed me a drawing he'd done for a backpiece that somebody didn't get of one of those really wild Ed Hardy-style tigers and the drawing had so much power that I wonder if adding a snake to that would just confuse things. It's sometimes best to keep it simple.

A tiger, maybe fighting a snake, maybe not, from Dave Cummings at PSC Tattoo. We're scheduled to start at the end of July, maybe earlier if he has cancellations.

Welcome! There's actually a pretty decent contingent of posters here from Australia and they're getting incredible tattoos. What are you getting/planning on getting?
-
If you look at the front page of this site where the tattoo of the month winners are, the May 2012 winner is a tattoo of a big cat with flames done by Aaron Coleman and it looks amazing, so yeah, I'd say that flames would work.

I got the first layer down on this new oil. Trying to improve all the time.

I love the way she framed that owl. Incorporating old tattoos into new tattoos is rad.

Welcome! The latest tattoo lowdown thread is great for posting pictures, or you can throw it up here. We'd love to see it! What do you have planned next?

Son of a bitch! I hate you, by which I mean I am sickly jealous of you right now. Those are outstanding!

There was a dude at the Montreal convention this year who got half his head tattooed by Chad Koeplinger one day and Mike Rubendall the next. Goddamn maniac.

January 2014 Tattoo of the Month Contest
Graeme replied to Iwar's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
Very strong month so far! -
I think it's totally fine to do that. I think if you look at the tattoos that people here have, a lot of us have some kind of patchwork of colour and b&g, tattoos in different styles, you name it. Personally, I like that look a lot. Get good tattoos, and have fun getting them, and you're gold.
-
Hello and welcome! I think that having black and grey tattoos along with colour ones looks fine. I have that myself. A tattoo that's left as just the outlines looks unfinished though. If you want to get all black tattoos, I'd suggest looking into artists who can tattoo in a woodcut/etching/scrimshaw style or in a dotwork style. Here are some examples of artists in the North East who do what I'm talking about: Providence Tattoo - DENNIS M DEL PRETE Saved Tattoo Saved Tattoo Saved Tattoo As far as how colours work with your skin tone, go to a good artist regardless of what tattoos you decide to get and they'll give you a tattoo that will work with it.

I think my style would be more along the lines of tattooing anthropomorphized penises. No hard feelings though, I think all of us here appreciate and value skilled craftsmanship, but like Hogg said earlier in the thread, for anything tattoo-related I prefer to keep my money in the tattoo community. And honestly, I think that stuff is probably cooler in more traditional ornamental forms than in doing tattoo designs in plaster on walls.

Tattoos in Video Games
Graeme replied to Mark Bee's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
If anybody is so inclined, Sleeping Dogs that @Dennis mentioned earlier in this thread is currently available as a free download for XBox Live members until January 16. It seems like a lot of fun so far, and there are plenty of tattoos in the game. -
If it helps you any, I was all kinds of nervous about going past the elbow. It seemed like I was making a really big leap coverage-wise, even though I couldn't have covered my tattoos with a t-shirt even before that. It's going to come out amazing though. Seth is a really incredible tattooer, I've seen some of his large-scale Japanese-style stuff in person, and like all good tattoos, seeing photos of them does them no justice, and he's smart, funny, articulate, and a really fun guy to get tattooed by.

There are a ton of people who can do great traditional tattoos in Brooklyn. If you want to real traditional, you can get tattooed by Tony Polito or Mike Perfetto. Smith Street (in Carroll Gardens), Greenpoint Tattoo (Greenpoint), Flyrite Tattoo (Williamsburg), Hand of Glory (Park Slope) will all give you a great tattoo. Plenty of options available.
-
You never answered my question about your own tattoos. Let's hear about them, better yet, let's see pictures of them, because I'm starting to suspect that you aren't actually interested in tattoos beyond how you can use them for personal gain, and this really isn't the place for that.
-
Welcome! Do we get to see pictures of your tattoos?
-
Welcome Jaye. The best person to talk to about your idea is a tattoo artist. They'll let you know what will or will not work as a tattoo, and they'll work with you to turn your idea into reality. I'd suggest paying a visit to Liberty Tattoo in Atlanta as they seem to make some nice tattoos: Liberty Tattoo Other posters here might have other shop recommendations as well.
