Super cool spot, and pretty much right next to it is a place called Prime Meats that will give you a great hearty pre- or post-tattoo meal. Good coffee there too.

Really nice tattoos you posted, welcome!

Sometimes I try to keep up on the music the youth are listening to, and it always ends with me being somewhat happy that I'm a cranky old man. That Middian recommendation gets you off the hook this time.

I didn't know who/what that was before your post and I can't say that my life has improved in any way now that I have this knowledge.

I wish. There are SO many bands playing that I'd love to see, but for the foreseeable future pretty much all my disposable income is going into tattoos. Please post how Necros Christos is live!

I like the original idea. It totally suggests a car wreck to me.

My experience with New Jersey has mostly been trying to avoid it on my way to NYC (Tappan Zee Bridge!) but I did have a nice brunch with a friend in Hoboken during one visit. I am stoked for this trip though. The Asbury Park area seems pretty cool. I'm sure it won't be our last time to the area.

2014 Montreal Art Tattoo Convention
Graeme replied to Graeme's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
What I wouldn't give to stumble upon a garbage bag full of money (preferably large bills) right now. -
Booked a trip for the first weekend in June down to the Jersey Shore in the hopes with getting a walk in with Tom Yak. I called the shop and talked to him, so it should be all good.

Not the greatest photo, but I got this from Eli in 2011:

I know a few women who are into stereotypically "girly girl" stuff like nice handbags, clothes, shoes, nails, etc., who also get amazing tattoos. I also know women who are into those same kinds of things, but aren't into tattoos, but are still really fucking smart, awesome women. And whatever, I also know a lot of people who are super rad for thousands of different reasons and they have crappy tattoos. Judging people because of their tattoos, the things they're into, their outward appearances, etc., is for idiots. The reason why people get bothered when threads take this kind of turn is that it dumbs down the board and distracts us from what should be the main point of this forum which is about getting and having conversations about getting awesome tattoos.

Can you please tell me how to fix my obviously failing reading comprehension because I somehow didn't manage to understand that you meant one specific individual when you wrote that you find it "incredulous that most girls obsess over their hairdressers/nail salons to the point of following them like groupies from shop to shop, have their phone # in their phones and damn sure know to ask for "Ramon's" next available day. I bet you they'll drop hundreds on a Louis-Vuitton bag but will squawk of the same for a Theresa Sharpe piece." Go fuck yourself, mouthbreather.

Joel Conroy at Barnstormer in Ottawa does nice work, but I don't really know of any other shops in Ottawa aside from that. Eilo and both of the Nicks at MTL Tattoo do really nice tattoos, but I'm not crazy about the rest of the work coming out of that shop. I'd recommend Tattoomania. Everybody there puts on really good tattoos, between the different artists at the shop they can do pretty much any style, and it's just a really nice, friendly, warm shop. PSC Tattoo is a great shop...Dave Cummings books out really far in advance but I think it's possible to get tattooed by Will or Arno on fairly short notice and they're both great. Imago is another good shop. I've seen a few tattoos that Nat who works there has done and they're pretty amazing. Hope that helps a bit.

Welcome and great choice of artist! You'll have to post pictures.

I am kind of into the idea of Greg Ginn with a theremin just because Black Flag was always the kind of band to do something to alienate and piss off people. I bet if I was actually there I'd want to punch Greg Ginn in his stupid neck though.

All those folk at Saved are great, but if you want a Thomas Hooper tattoo, it's well worth your while to save your money and fly to Texas to get it from him. Nobody tattoos like him.

I stopped listening to this kind of music when His Hero is Gone broke up because I figured that with them gone nobody new would do anything worthwhile like that again. Bizarre logic maybe, but I stand by it. Other favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjtkQAbVdmY I would probably still get the MITB skull as a tattoo.

I wish. Stupid saving money for tattoos getting in the way of travelling for tattoos. -

This thread makes me jealous. -
The Montreal convention (5-7 September 2014) is going to include a group show with new paintings from Timothy Hoyer, Phil Holt, Lango Oliviera, and Edu Cerro at the Yves Laroche Gallery. Another reason to make the trip for the convention...

I promise you that we won't be bothered if you want to keep us updated about your back, especially if pictures are involved. Welcome!

From the store at the Japanese American National Museum. Shipping will no doubt be expensive to New Zealand but the book is only $20 and it's worth much, much more than that. I really recommend it if you have any interest whatsoever in Japanese tattoos.
