Looks like it, thanks @Ducky15568. I thought it would be worthwhile knowing the method since from time to time we get people here asking about particular non-laser tattoo methods. Now we can point them to this thread because the results in the first picture are horrible.

I agree with @marley mission, get the tattoo and see. If you're going to piece many smaller tattoos together into something larger you don't have to decide anything right away. There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach but both can land you with something great so it's really entirely a matter of personal preference.

I'm not going to lie, I'd eat that. I unfortunately live in an uncivilized part of the world where what we call barbecue is actually grilling. There are starting to be some half-decent proper barbecue places, but it's still a rarity.

I could not disagree more with this. I was talking with one guy who tattooed me about this kind of thing and he said that he doesn't consider a fresh tattoo to even be a tattoo yet. It needs to heal and settle in before it is really a tattoo. I completely agree with him. I'd also say that a tattoo that doesn't look better settled in and with some life on it is a crappy tattoo.

You've watched some widely available documentaries and read some recently published easy to obtain books, you must be really good at research.

I saw this on Instagram, it's on user tfjesse1046. Sailor Jerry put this on him in 1967. Readable and strong as fuck almost 50 years in.

Who cares what motivates people to get tattoos and to choose particular imagery as long as they're getting good tattoos.

Me and @Pugilist have talked about driving down to RVA in July for the show so we should certainly talk about it.

It's apparently not that easy if your drawings are anything to go by.

@RoryQ Excellent! That wrestler flash is really great and I've been wanting something from it myself. Was Bill there? He's a great dude, and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that he's a big reason why so many of us get great tattoos.

Welcome Reb! When I look at the pictures you posted the first person who came to mind is Dan Gilsdorf in Portland because his tattoos often have this really wonderful folky quality that I think would work really well with reference drawn from Dutch deflt. I could also see somebody like Greg Whitehead, also in Portland, doing a great job with it. I'm sure there are also people in Seattle who are equally capable of taking your idea and giving you a great tattoo, but I'm not super familiar with people working there. Hopefully somebody with more local knowledge can help out here. Also keep in mind that porcelain and skin are two totally different mediums so it's not going to translate exactly and a good artist will be able to give you what you want in a way that makes sense and works as a tattoo. For example, with the image above, the problem with a lot of pinterest stuff including that tattoo is that the tattoos might look nice when they're fresh but they don't obey fundamental design principles and so they're not going to stand the test of time. There's a thread here that will hopefully clarify that.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that a vaccine to prevent hepatitis C exists. In any case, I'm not sure what vaccinations a tattoo artist has or doesn't have is relevant to his or her health and hygiene practices when it comes to tattooing.

I was just going to post that if this was my sleeve I'd see about squeezing a little frog in there. @sophistre it's really been a pleasure seeing you go from a poster with no tattoos to having this completely gorgeous sleeve. I am glad you shared it with us.

That's normally called scratching but because you're a clever art school kid you probably have a lengthy jerkoff artist's statement about how it isn't that. Nobody cares. Beat it.

It turns out that it's really difficult to take pictures of your inner biceps but here are mine. The skull is from Ron Henry Wells and the Haeckel mandala type deal is from Thomas Hooper. I am glad I don't have to get that part of my body tattooed anymore.
