  1. I have been hoping to drastically cut back on my tattoo travels because my bank account thinks I'm a total asshole right now....BUT getting rad tattoos is this dumb compulsion I have so who knows!
  2. Radar at Walk the Line in Athens, GA. I saw one of his lady heads at the Rochester convention on a tattooer who works with him, didn't get the guy's name though, but I asked him who did the tattoo because it was AMAZING. It was just so well tattooed, so smooth and beautiful and well-designed that it's a shame he isn't better known. This picture is ripped from the shop's facebook.
  3. I saw this one in Brian Bruno's book over the weekend. Picture stolen from his instagram. Unreal, I am jealous of whoever has this.
  4. I have a long session booked in June, we're going to finish it then.
  5. Thank you! I am obviously absolutely thrilled with it and when it's healed, or more likely, when it's finished, I'll have to get some better pictures because all the subtleties in the shading are lost in that picture, but I just wanted to share it.
  6. Here's a not very good quality shot-in-a-hotel-mirror with a cameraphone picture of the progress on my sleeve. Thomas Hooper is working on this, and the latest session of shading on my forearm was done at the Rochester convention.
  7. Hah! I was thinking the other day how much money I spend on tattoos (I don't have many tattoos yet so I'm only around the price of a small car into my collection), thinking that I don't actually have that much money that I can spend what I do on tattoos, and then realizing that I had this money too before I started getting tattooed and what do I have to show for it? A couple of guitars and amps, but mainly mostly nothing.

  9. A company that wants you to show loyalty by getting a tattoo of its logo is a company that can get bent. Isn't this roughly equivalent to that choad who tattooed his name on his girlfriend's face in that they're basically claiming you as their property?

Secret Historian is great too. I read Sam Steward's book Bad Boys and Tough Tattoos after reading it and I think it helped me to understand that book a little bit better...it's a little bit odd as a tattoo book without that knowledge.

Just Kids is goddamned amazing. I can't really say enough good things about that book...if you're into Patti Smith you're going to love it as a given, but her whole depiction of being a poor artist in New York in the 60s, her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe, it's just incredible.
  12. You know, if that tattoo was on me I'd also post it to the May tattoo of the month competition because that's a great one.

I'm about 450 pages into The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss and I am really into it so far. I liked The Name of the Wind, but I found it a little bit lacking because it didn't really have the depth and the richness that I wanted, but there's far more of that in this new book. The characters and their relationships are further developed, we see more of the world and how it works, the pacing is great, and it's just a really satisfying read so far.
  14. Hi and welcome to the board. Please take the time to watch the artist interviews, read and learn from old and new threads, and appreciate that this is a community that is pretty unique on the internet. To quote a poster from this forum who I have a tremendous amount of respect for:
  15. I'm getting super excited for this! I don't think I'll be able to get anything other than what I already have booked (poor me, I know you all feel so bad for me right now), but I am super psyched because I'll get to see tattoos done by a lot of people I am super stoked on and hopefully it will make me want to get tattooed by them in future years. Also I have been hearing about the trash plate for years and I am finally going to be given the opportunity to eat one.
  16. I really dig what Ron Henry Wells has been doing with roses. He explains what he's doing with them on his blog here:
  17. Sometimes you just need to go with what feels right to you at the time and, like @David Flores said, don't overthink it. Hope it goes well and that you get something awesome that you're happy with!
  18. Portland sounds amazing. The city doesn't by any chance need any more experienced, formally trained brewers, huh?
  19. Those both rule and make me want to keep plenty of open skin for when I have kids so I can do that with them.
  20. Amazing...but FOUR SESSIONS? I mean, I have heard that he is extremely fast and his use of negative space is absolutely incredible, but still...FOUR SESSIONS?
  21. The best thing about being in a relationship with somebody who is into tattoos is getting psyched about the tattoos they're getting.
  22. How much do you have left? We have this appointment and another in June and we (I hope!) should be done. Stephanie said that she should be able to finish @Pugilist 's back in that June visit too...it's going to be strange being finished with all this travelling to NYC for tattoos. We have a wedding to go to in September and we need to figure out tattoos for that.
  23. More progress on my arm from Thomas.
  24. I have a friend who is ready to get his first tattoo and he's trying to get it from Adam Hathorn at the Montreal Convention this year. I hope it works out for him and I am stoked that my friends are getting rad tattoos.
