  1. According to my sources the scalloped edges are called botan mikiri (scalloped background) but I agree with @Colored Guy here about bringing in examples if you're looking for something more specific than that.
  2. Thanks for having such a cool thread.

  6. The sleeve on my left arm goes a bit into my armpit and I didn't find the tattooing itself especially bad (inner arm is tender anyway), but healing it sucked because it's uncomfortable/difficult with the swelling to just have your arm hanging normally by your side so you end up walking around kind of like a scarecrow for a few days after getting tattooed.
  7. I think beyond questions of style and general guidelines about what makes a good, lasting tattoo, this guy's tattoos look like absolute garbage. That's a horrible tattoo.
  8. @Cannibal That is super cool. Those wolves are beautiful and apparently far more affectionate than I would have ever expected. I've been camping fairly deep into the wilderness and heard wolves howling and it's unforgettable.
  9. I didn't know they had a new one, I'll have to get that. The first one was great too...it really continued on what Tom G Warrior was doing on Monotheist, which also ruled. That was a WAY better reunion album than I think anybody could have reasonably expected. I saw Triptykon when they were touring on that first album. They fucking killed it.
  10. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but the guy in the white t-shirt is Paul Rogers.

    Book thread

Are you into more historically-oriented graphic novels? Art Spiegelman's Maus is an absolute must. Joe Sacco is great and his books on Palestine and Bosnia (Safe Area Gorazde and The Fixer) are both excellent. I really enjoyed Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis which is about the Iranian Revolution. These should all be fairly easy to find too. I'm currently reading The Black Star by Lin Carter: I like going through used bookstores and buying books with good cover art, and you don't get any better art than a Frank Frazetta painted cover. The book itself is pretty run of the mill sword and sorcery but is enjoyable nevertheless. This is what a fantasy novel should look like, fuck those photoshopped bullshit covers.
  12. Nice tattoos and welcome!
  13. What did you get from Ron? I've been tattooed a bunch by him...he's one of my favourite dudes in tattooing. Eilo is great too. My wife has a little tattoo from her. I hear you about saving for the backpiece though. I'm starting mine in July and I'm hoping to be able to swing both that and a convention tattoo...anyway if you do come, we're planning on having a Last Sparrow meetup if you're interested in that. Who's going to be doing your back, by the way?
  14. Bart Bingham instagrammed another one last night. Brokeback Powell Peralta ripper:
  15. @beez Bart Bingham has been going crazy with the brokeback girls, you need to check out his instagram if you haven't already. Instagram
  16. Danny Way: From The Search for Animal Chin. I love this kind of stuff. I am going to assume that @irezumi does too:
  17. Bart Bingham: And a couple of skate reapers by Frankie Caraccioli:
  18. If I ever find myself in Colorado...
  19. Possibly my favorite artist in any medium. I need to get that O'Brien reaper tattooed on me.
  20. Santa Cruz always have the best graphics. The weather here has been shitty and cold but I can't wait to get out there and mess it up a bit because nothing looks as ridiculous as a brand new skateboard.
  21. Of course I got a Nash. Plastic trucks are the good kind, right?
  22. Finally bought a skateboard after years of wanting to do it but feeling like I was too old to start skating again.
  23. @smiling.politely Oh, I wrote that completely agreeing with you and I just wanted to expand on it from my experience and perspective.
  24. I don't want to make tattooing out to be more than it is, and I don't want to assume the reasons why people get tattoos, but isn't the case--even now with tattoos being mainstream--that there's some rejection of mass culture and the status quo involved in getting tattooed? That even though our homes may be filled with cheap disposable consumer goods made on the other side of the world by workers getting paid pennies per hour, that at least our tattoos are made by hand by skilled craftspeople that we actually get to spend time with and interact with? The thought that some people would see getting rid of the human aspect of tattooing as a positive thing IN ANY WAY really bums me out.
