It's not the end of the world. There has been lots of solid advice offered to you here. The most practical solution is just leave it the fuck alone and let the experience breathe. You're trying to make something work that's been through two iterations already. Get some other tattoos in the meantime and have fun. Maybe one day this star will be left in the dust of an epic sleeve coverup? Just remember...at the end of the day, *it's just a tattoo* and a small one at that, not the end of the world man. Don't sweat it.

feels like i've got chicken pox...last session I had, OllieXXX stipled the rest of my torso gaps, added filler on the eel on the side of my knee, touched up a leg tattoo he did 3 years ago and added a smart ass hot stuff. healing four parts of the body at the moment and i've got another session coming up next week. jesus christ. then i think i will be good for this season, going to start my backpiece after getting my sunburn on this summer. so what to get next week? i had booked an appointment with one of my favourite local tattooers Shawn O'Connor (The Timber Tattoo Company Blog) since he is moving away from Edmonton to Nelson (which rules because I love road trips to Hippy Country, Canada). Thinking about getting a bad ass panther...is there really anything to think about there?!? My wife is away this week which means I don't have my rational partner to talk me out of doing something ridiculous, like adding blue balls onto a muscle sex panther tattoo. It's going on my inner thigh, seems only appropriate to add some innuendo.

My first tattoo...the tattooer explained to me that he does his drawings the night before to keep the idea fresh in his head to make the tattoo (and this is very typical from all the tattoos I've received in the last 10 years). So I showed up on the day of the appointment, saw the drawing and asked the gentleman to redraw/fix a few minor details. By the 4th time he said "Look kid, I'm not going to redraw the Last Supper. You want a tattoo today or not". Best advice I ever got and one of the strongest tattoos on my body. Moral of the story, if you don't ask you will not get an answer. But if you ask for something nitpicky be prepared to accept no for an answer if you still want the tattoo. Unless you asked last-minute to add a penis onto your tattoo. Then the answer will always be yes.

Got a gnarly tattoo of a hot stuff...riding a pig (the top from the pigs is pigs). it is super weird and hot stuff looks like a bright red head of a penis with horns. it's 48 hrs old, was super spontaneous and my wife is rather unimpressed at my humour. some post-tattoo anxiety and thinking maybe i should have just gotten something easier to comprehend like a skull or a rose...meh i already have a few skulls and roses. i just keep telling myself that this hot stuff is really funny and well worth the $300. oh geez - - - Updated - - - ^ my post is worthless without pics abstract closeup

I just made an appointment like this two days ago. I've got a month to decide what we will do...either a snake head and snake tail in either armpit with tear outs. Or go wild and get my psychadalligator with sunglasses.

Got my windpipe/lower throat tattooed with the super kick ass black orange and green snake. Connected the pieces on both sides of my neck/collar and did background filler on my traps to tie my sleeves, neck and chest bird all together. Holy shit it was awesome...that feeling of trust when your buddy tattooer is choking you out to get the skin stretched. Serious iron throat training to compliment my kung fu. It actually was quite pleasant sensation and probably one of the most exciting spots i got tattooed. Definately not for the faint at heart or the inexperienced. Peak-a-boo placement is perfect and really feel that after 10 years of tattoo commitment I have earned the privilege to have this recent experience. I'll post some pics next week or two once my collar bruising goes down and the piece settles in. Feels awesome to start seeing my body suit come together...just gotta get that back done!

sunscreen is good defense...i was pretty overzealous during my early years living with tattoos. then i got a lot more ink, got lazy of lathering and tired of smelling like a god damn pina colada all the time. coverup, wear long sleeves if you are going to be out in the sunshine for long periods, don't stay exposed long enough to get a burn. i mean that is good sense whether you look like a colouring book or not. yknow that pesky thing they call skin cancer... the gent who did my first tattoo told me that tattoos look the best ten years after they were made. they look worn, the look weathered, they have aged gracefully with you. the tattoos have mileage and your stories attached to make them alive. i looked up this tattooer 10 years later and stopped by his shop to show him that decade old first tattoo. and to tell him he was god damn right! take care of your body and keep healthy. healthy skin will make the tattoo look better and keep it looking like a good tattoo. that is the best long-term tattoo care advice i've been given and that i can share.

nO regrets with tattoos! i did chest and both ribs first. i decided to go this route so i could tile the background underneath the ribs. which would have made sense if i went with a japanese motif full tiger but instead i opted for a neo-trad tiger head. the narrow space did limit placement. i.e. a little too narrow to line up the mouth with the belly button and make the rest of the cat head fit within. my tummy tiger ended up sitting low and goes below the belt line (no biker bodysuit ha). the tiger head ended up smaller than I had originally envisioned but overall I love it and think it's size compliments my physique and does not overshadow my chest bird. in the end I am quite happy with how the layout of my torso tattoos ended up. i like the space and think that i got a pretty unique end result. <pics in my gallery> and now that the big placeholders are done my plan is to tighten up, add contrast and darken the background neck-to-crotch to coalesce it all as it is several artists who have contributed to this bizarre vision I had/have for my front tattoos. someone once told me i looked like the backboard on a pinball machine (which makes me a laugh, take it as a compliment)! on the flip side, if you go tummy first you might limit space for placement of chest and sides. so it's all relative, really. just go with the flow and let the plan develop as you make progress. nO reGretssss!!!

My last couple of tattoos have been made under these spontaneous circumstances. That's how I've ended up with a sweet ugly ass electric eel (sharpied on), a technicolour lizard and a sailor jerry frog. After getting a lot of "project" tattoos as I call them (bigger multi-sesh pieces) these little random bangers really showed me a flip side of the tattoo experience. I like the excitement, live for the experience...and that adrenaline rush when you get home to the wife and say "uh so yeah i got another tattoo this afternoon"...LOL

I was considering getting the Michael Scolfield Prison Break blueprint tattooed...then I realized I don't have enough space. Plus I don't ever plan on going to jail so meh...

It was from Jon's own painted flash. 2hrs. Ollie walked by and turned up the volts on the machine and Jon was flying. it was funny. good time and good tattooer! <nuff side ass, en joy>

My parents gave me a stern warning when I was younger that if I got a tattoo it meant I had money to waste and I could afford to pay them rent and support myself through university. In hindsight, if I defied my parents at that time I would have got a single shitty rebellious tattoo out of my system, they would still have supported me and I probably wouldn't have ever been able to use the family car...that would be it. So I waited until I finished my last university exam and booked my first tattoo in. And now I am on track to a fine bodysuit collection. My parents have always had a "UGH BUT IT'S SO BIG. WHY. WASTE OF MONEY" disappointment attitude towards my tattoos. Then they eventually came around to "UGH. BUT IT'S SO BIG. AT LEAST THEY ARE COLOURFUL" change of heart, yet still disappointment. And then when i breached the collar, the same "UGH. IT'S SO BIG. SO WHAT'S THE STORY..." couple minutes into telling the story with excitement they change the subject...to something less disappointing. whatever maan. I have already proven myself with my track record and have earned the respect of my colleagues and clients for my abilities, personality and experience. I have been getting many tattoos for 10 years (a backpiece shy of a full bodysuit) before making the leap to 'out' myself as an illustrated man by adding neck tattoos. Not barfing zombies on my neck...but tasteful well executed tattoos that I feel compliment my appearance. I reached a position in my career where I work/own a small engineering firm and have been loyal to my boss/mentor/eng-sifu for a decade. He thinks my tattoos are great and supports it, even though I have been wearing long sleeves (no turtlenecks yet lol) for many years in order not to detract from my work and abilities. And I believe any negative feelings people may harbour towards my tattoos have been kept to themselves as nobody yet has the balls to give their unsolicited opinion to my face. I was very curious when I heard this story on CBC radio earlier today! When Ms. Monroe described her tattoo design my first reaction was WTF? "Sounds complicated" with kid and pet names, birds waterfall...on a face space? Good god! Could not picture anything but a disaster with this placement. Expected the "Mike Tyson". The tattoo looks well done however the placement is...well...bizarre. A GOOD tattoo you should be able to tell what it is from across the street and it should have enough black as to provide depth, not make the design look flat. From a purely artistic and tattoo enthusiast standpoint. Ms. Monroe commented that this was her first tattoo (very bold!) and she had other ideas forming, this was the start of her tattoo journey (at 65! nonetheless) with plans to add more. I will say though this is encouraging to see a person in an influential position do this. But as someone who has many tattoos I would ask why she wouldn't have opted for a different placement i.e drop a waterfall down the forearm...or even down her neck if she wanted it to be a "YO HERE I AM" tattoo. Ms. Monroe did comment too that she chose the face because she wasn't interested in a little ankle or shoulder tattoo ("what's the point") and definately didn't want the stigma of the lower back (lol) which I thought was a very interesting comment from somebody going for their first tattoo experience. Myself, I go to whichever tattooers I'm familiar with and whichever tattooers who's quality of work I think is good. I've been tattooed by 16 different guys with 160hrs (and counting) over ten years. Tattooers with different style/vibe, different equipment, different processes, different touch. Hammer hands and gentle-gentleman. I've gone to most of my tattooers for more than one piece. This has really expanded my experiences and journey becoming an illustrated man. By going to different tattooers I've had the opportunities to be tattooed in new shops, old established shops, local shops, travels, private home studios, different shop setups and so now I know what I like, who I like and where I like to go to receive a tattoo. I've been tattooed by apprentices and I've been tattooed by some legit people that have been doing it for decades. Having Some tattooers are great to just slap on a banger and have some fun. Some I know will squeeze me in at the end of a day and sharpie one of my ridiculous ideas on. Some I know give that little bit extra in terms of refining a design/idea and being very particular about placement. I am lucky to say I have had nothing but positive experiences and NO REGRETS which is an important thing I attach to being a tattooed person. If you have one tattooer you trust, that's great and enjoy it. I like to think that variety can lend itself to a wider range of opportunity and experiences.

No rest from healing this winter...got more work coming up in 2 weeks from some guest artists coming to my city. Getting hilarious with Bryan Turnbull (Gov Street Tattoo Victoria) and getting weird with Jon Gray (Mata Mata Hamilton). And some touchups on my neck piece and mini insect tattoo. My wife is pissed I will be sidelined from the hot tub at her work christmas party. I will gladly stay dry on my colouring book quest!

my wife and I got a set of eagle tattoos on our honeymoon. the idea was originally to get lil hummingbirds but instead fate (Chris David) gave her a feminine shoulder eagle and me a screamin' neck eagle. eagles mate for life (how cute)

No, my wife did. She is a vet tech and does id tattoos on animals at her clinic. My dog already had a 7yr old alphanumeric tattoo in one ear from the breeder...green ink and it is fading out and getting hard to read. So we took the opportunity to put an additional ID tattoo in the other ear while my dog was getting a dental and under full anesthetic. /offtopic

Funny, I walked into my buddies shop a few weeks ago and was like "what the...is everyone is using rotary machines now? It's too god damn quiet in here!". This being said, rotary feels a little nicer on shading and packing colour to me on the receiving end however I really enjoy the red hot sting, weight and tractor buzz of good ol' coil machine running hot.
