bump 4 2016 Looks like I'm headed to Seattle in July for wedding...gonna wear my soundgarden shirt, pay my respects Bruce Lee, Jimi and Cobain, go to that rock n roll museum on top of the family celebration. Thinking of checking out Liberty Tattoo and getting a lil somethingsomething. The shop looks dope. Trevor Taylor is on my radar. Any other Seattle tattoo shop / tattooist suggestions?

In this thread, we commiserate about healing our fresh tattoos.
bongsau replied to Pugilist's topic in Tattoo After Care
not for me, haha! actually i've had some enthusiastic grippers, sometimes I forget it's there. i generally lean on the dry side of healing. this heal is pretty intense.it's interesting, cause I think the budderfly on the back of my neck/head (which healed like a peach superfast!) is a little more aggressive placement, but people only see it when I walk away. this one on my hand, it's funny I can watch the eyes drift down to sneak a peak. I'm like have a look it's rad ! just gonna focus on healing this bad-boy so I can burn it off in Mexico in 6 weeks. realty is becoming precious -

So I've been healing the dragon fist/wrist tattoo that I got on Dec.30. It's proving to be the most challenging heal I've had. The whole thing is a scabby, like it's been cracking, oozing and bleeding for 2 weeks straight. Likely because of the nature of the hand skin and design and I'm stuck in a Canadian winter - so it's cold, dry, and the tattoo rubs on jackets and gloves. The A&D isn't helping, it burns and is clogging hair follicles. It's also on my right hand which hasn't helped (i.e. movement, hand shakes, etc). I've had some rough heals before and have lost little chunks here and there but this one is extra stressful because it is on my hand and so visible. ...however I haven't given up hope and pray to the tattoo Gods...now what's blowing my mind is that it doesn't look like any ink loss and it's starting to finally flake (over and over and over!), which I can't rationalize! Proving once again, Steve Batt's tattoo technique is some kind of black magic sorcery!!! This is also a lesson in why hand tattoos are not entry-level placement. -
@SaskPirate yeah thx man! i'm pretty pumped and ready to throw all my shirts in the fire. Also you can imagine how fast and hard Steve hit my back ;p Damn, your leg is insane...I see the blues and water and I'm like yup Steve haha still gotta hit the backs of the knee yikes haha cheers

YO what's up E-Town ! I'm pretty sure I've seen your tattoos online several years ago, recognize your user name haha! I'm from Edmonton too...I just finished up final touch-ups on my backpiece with Steve and he's done about a third of my tattoo suit over the last decade+. Preaching to the choir man. Did you ever get tattooed by him at Capital Q ? Haven't been tattooed by Chris, but have seen lots of his work around town in-person and got to watch him tattoo people on a few occassions. He's an ace edmonton dude too. Welcome aboard, LST is a pretty rad place to hang. Cheers

short of removing the moles, the only way to conceal them is to match on the other side. brown blue butterfly search keep the negative (bare skin), add brown circles, orange/violet highlights to brighten it up

hey there Tina condolences about your mother, my mother too passed away a few years ago, much too young. I'm still dealing with grief 2 years later, partly because i just buried it and kept a strong-front. So go easy on yourself, it takes time to heal. about the tattoo - it's 3 weeks old, so you might have to wait a couple weeks more before you start trying to correct and run over a healing tattoo. I am not a tattooer, just experienced on the receiving end, but no experience with coverups/fixes. However, I think there is some hope for your tattoo... The 5 and a 6 could easily be interchanged with a darker/heavier line. but you will have to do that to the complete dates on both sides to balance it out. The average person won't notice the corrections. And honestly, the 5 and 6 are both going to look like 8s in 10 years at the size they are. The butterfly - only thing that will cover the moles is black. And isn't really recommended to tattoo moles (there is another thread on LST about that). You could outline black circles around the moles and then replicate on the opposite wing with black outline circles and fill in with brown ink (or colour blend to match the brown moles, blue to brown is easy I think). here's my butterfly...to give you an idea of a circle pattern on the wings Go back and see your tattooer. They can see how it's healed, you get a chance to explain the corrections. See what kind of magic they can perform. We've seen waaay worse get corrected, don't stress too badly. welcome! everybody here had their first time in the tattoo shop, congrats

I finished my backpiece on December 30th ! Then I did a victory lap and had my tattooer/life-coach cap my wrist off with a magic dragon. It ended up on my hand with the beard on the knuckle whoops! Turned out awesome !! Healing is a total bitch, haven't bent my wrist since last Wednesday and my hand is really raw. I'll post a less cryptic pic in the future...my arm now is all Steve Batt 2003 / 2007 / 2015 yipee really cool to see a timeline from the same tattooer blended one into the other.

You get a butt tattoo...life goes on...and then life starts to include more episodes of you mooning people lol

How to deal with annoying meaning of tattoo question
bongsau replied to 2bacanvas's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Couple choices in how to respond to this re-occuring question: 1. Be unfriendly about it. 2. Share the meaning. Like, the most obvious meaning of what the tattoo appears to be. 3. Share the meaning. Like, the most personal meaning from the depths of your soul. Example, case study: I got a dragon tattoo last week. It's on my hand, out in the open. 1. "What does it mean? Fuck off or feel the wrath of my dragon fist!" 2. "What does it mean? It's a dragon, obviously. And dragons are fucking awesome!" 3. "What does it mean? It's a reminder! 'Wake up and be happy, everyday'" There are very few people that will actually care what the tattoo means. It's usually just an conversation opener so that the person asking you can followup with talking about their tattoo and themselves. At least this has been my experience. It's your tattoo. You don't need to justify why you got it or the meaning of it to anybody but yourself :) -
hey @mmikaoj first couple of days are a little awkward...underwear, toilet seats (prepare the quads for hovering), pants, everything sticks to and in your ass. your butt is greasy from ointment (or whatever). it is as uncomfortable as healing any other spot, in its own charming way haha. i felt my mobility was more frozen by healing knee tatts. this wrist/hand tattoo i'm healing is brutal, haven't bent my wrist in a week! some spots the tattoo is nothing, the healing is worse. i felt the butt tattooing was worse than the healing. i would think you'd be fine for a flight afterwards. wear comfortable baggy pants and take er easy with the public toilet germs. it will be uncomfortable and you'll be moving like frankenstein. you will be home to relax before you know it. good luck.

well good luck ! I think you're on the right track with the tattooers you've listed - my vote (which doesn't count!) is for Gerhard or Iain. You will never look at your butt the same way after it's tattooed ! ...i think i posted this somewhere else...about when I was healing my backside and my wife walked in on me cannonballin', spreading ointment on my bare ass. Like WTF, right? She could not unsee that, it was weird for her, and I'm all like 'what? we're married!" Once you black the crack, you cannot go back ! - - - Updated - - - I met this dude (I bet someone here will know T-Po) in Toronto, 2007...he had this AMAZING portrait of BILL COSBY on his ass cheek. Like an incredible tattoo. He also had this super-shitty Edmonton Oilers tattoo, which was also amazing because he was from Ontario. Really good dude, friend of friends, helped out a lot of bands.

My butt in between two Paul Jeffries butts ended up in the city newspaper last year lol - - - Updated - - - I think heavy black neo-tribal would look awesome and compliment your backpiece! Would you just get Iain Mullen to add-on, drop it down? I think his particular style could make a really unique butt design. Other butt-placement ideas: angel/devil, geisha/hanya masks, Grimm style sun/moon, naked ladies, big big flowers, poly-tribal blackwork, propellers, pattern/illustrative blackwork, ...HOT STUFF...

no, it is not a good tattoo idea. if your OCD doesn't affect your tattoos at all...then why do you need a tattoo to remind yourself not to do something? a tattoo with strong imagery can give you confidence and will be a reminder everytime you look at it not to doubt yourself or whatever. tattoo doesn't need to be so literal and obvious.
-
Waves and rocks, my backpiece extends all the way down. Black in the crack, it creates a shadow effect, to make the tattoo fit naturally on the buttocks. Go as deep as you and the tattooer feel comfortable with. If you don't, you'll be wishing you did and you will hesitate returning to the painful memories. My ass tattooing session was a very valuable lesson in humility and vulnerability. Plus my black ass looks fantastic now. You should definately bring a wooden spoon or ask your tattooer for a piece of old leather to bite down on. Seriously.

Introduction and question - stencil ink permanent?
bongsau replied to Supernurse's topic in Initiation
hey there, there is not much you can do now except wait. white ink takes a bit longer to really settle in the skin from my experience (i have blocks of white on my arm and back, also white highlights in miniature tattoos). i recall stencil transfer ink lingering for weeks after lining my back (but that's heavy black lines, not white lines). i was scrubbing adjacent older tattoos for weeks to get rid of the stencil ink and the blasted bandage tape residue! please keep us update in a couple months...either it will be a white ink success story or another example of why it's a risky tattoo design. worst case scenario, the tattoo looks blue, you run it over in black and problem solved. time will tell. you should also be aware that white ink tattoos tend to get a golden hue in the summer time. let it heal, enjoy the tattoo for what it is (it is meaningful to you afterall). i think it will turn out fine for you. -
congrats @spacellama on your popping your tattoo cherry, welcome to the club (it's all down hill from here maan)

@KRod so awesome !! nice to hear/see the Gustav Dore inspiration

hey bud, I think it's really nice your friends really want to include you and have your input into their desired marriage tattoo. If your to-be-married friends really want you to design a tattoo for you to give it obvious meaning, by all means go for it, nobody is going to stop you...but would you have a bicycle hobbyist tell the mechanic how to tune up your sports car? The last thing you want is to design a tattoo with good intentions for D&K, have it turn out poorly and then they laser or cover their marriage tattoo in a few years. That would suck for them and you will feel shitty. We don't want that to happen bud. I think there is this notion that tattoos have to carry some profound deep meaning to justify a permanent mark on the body. I was that way when I first started. So people tend to overdesign, complicate, and cram too many ideas into a tattoo design to carry some profound meaning of what they are all about. A good tattooer is going to burst your bubble, simplify to one subject (and they won't tattoo your finger unless your a cheesy instagram celebrity or have full arms of worn tattoos). The meaning in tattoo is the conception of the idea, experience getting it, healing it, and then wearing it until your dead. You could give this marriage tattoo some meaning by helping D&K come up with the general concept idea and pointing them in the direction of a good shop/tattooer. My wife and I...we got eagle tattoos. Yeah eagles, big deal, every biker, hardcore and hipster kid has an eagle tattoo. Probably 80% of the people on LST do! Sure. Why eagles? It just came up as a joke in one of the best, purest, magical moments we had as newlyweds. And then driving to the City to scope out the tattoo shop we took a random detour and ended up at a bird of prey sanctuary. Where we saw an eagle the size of a German Shepherd, majestically perched. We were mesmerized. And then we learned that eagles find their partner and mate for life. Done. Sold. We had an awesome day in the tattoo shop and a beautiful evening to follow. And her tattoo gets more compliments than mine ;) That is how tattoos hold meaning. It just happens. Life. Search the "Claddagh". This is the first image that comes to mind when I think marriage symbols. If you google Claddagh tattoo you will find an assortment of terrible tattoos and a few clean ones. Or the Hercules Knot. The nice clean tattoos all have the same thing in common...simplicity. Timeless designs. If your buds want something super detailed and intricate for their finger, find a jeweller and get rings. A shoulder tattoo can go much bigger and the skin is different (and takes less abuse) than the skin on the finger. The shoulder is a good starting spot for tattoo-virgins. Or maybe the wrist (not upsidedown!). But still, keep it simple and obvious. And sure, if your DK buds are into skulls, swap the Claddagh heart out for a simple skull. If D & K are into punk... go for the obvious and hand-poke them a Dead Kennedy's logo on your living room coffee table(jokes), give the tattoo meaning and infection! good luck
