Autobot, Hero, Champion, Contributor, Regular, Ex-Lurker, etc Always been curious how the algorithm works for user ranks...or is this a safe guarded trade secret of the internet?

@Matej Haviar ha that's you ! saw this on Scott's IG the other day. he didn't cut you any slack eh, that's some tight lines on the ass and kidney areas. you'll be relieved once you get on the shoulders. bad ass dude! props on taking on a back project as your third piece. congrats and good stuff on hooking it up with Cap'n Scott. He's tattooed me a couple times (most recently the snake in my avatar) and one of my fave tattoo dudes in Edmonton. You going to the Lucky Strike party this weekend? Don't bother bringing a shirt, once it comes off Scott won't let you put it back on haha. cheers

8 hours for just that? Nice that he took a 50% deposit than insisted on the rest of the money up front... sounds sketchy.

welcome @kitti your grace neutral piece is cool, i like the honesty behind what she's saying and doing. i've got a lot of mileage from 15 different tattooers to date. some traditional, some japanese style, some bright and colourful, some black n grey, some shitty, some old, some new, some weird. I think the individual and how they carry/wear the tattoo is an important aspect of making tattoo cohesive (subject matter and beyond). we are the tattoos. obviously there are technical things that skilled tattooers will do to tie multiple tattoo borders together or you can just fill in gaps, tile in tattoos, overlap, blast. some folks want that hyper-cohesive singular tattoo coverage look which is ok too. the point is it's up to you how you define cohesive. my tattoo experience is an on ongoing project and will end when I die, that's what makes it cohesive for me...not to get too faaar out and philosophical haha ...and flowers (in any style) make an excellent tattoo subject and go with everything !

Here's my lighthouse. I got it done by King Len in 2012 (photo from when it was fresh). It was my first spontaneous tattoo - popped into the shop to say hi, Len was guest tattoo-ing, flipped through his flash book, hum'd and haw'd for 5 minutes and said hey you got time? ok let's do it! Come to think of it all my Len tattoos are like that ! Asked him to put an eyeball at the top and he obliged, but he wasn't going to use any extra colours other than the basics, that was non-negotiable. Kinda of a dumb spot to put a one-shot small tattoo (on the thigh) because it really cockblocked the space for a full size thigh tattoo, but meh no ragrets and I like that it symbolizes the no-plan spontaneous aspect to tattooing that I had overlooked for many years. https://www.instagram.com/kinglentattoos/ Len actually has made a lot of really nice traditional lighthouse tatts if you scroll through his 'gram.

@rayray115 awesome first post and good choices. don't second guess yourself or Kiku, you got this ! ps don't worry there is no text in your tattoo haha

yeah good points @marley mission i've also have had rough heals on my thighs. i like your comment about front row action. when I got my first couple of tattoos, I thought meh what's the big deal, it doesn't hurt! Then I got my ribs tattooed and I can still taste that salty single tear when he hit me with the shader (after lining). My tattooer's like c'mon buddy not even hitting ya that hard with the shader lol. Ah memories. I long for the younger glory days when tattoos "didn't hurt". I guess I got all the big stuff out of the way now. But I still have the tops of my feet and armpits, and damn I am terrified - especially of the feet. We say that all people are born with X number of tattoo credits. The more you get tattooed, the more tattoo credits you spend...and the more that shit fucking hurts !!
-
@lildropofsunshine you still don't have me convinced - tattoos hurt ! everyone's got their own tattoo-likes and tattoo-look they're going for. it's all good. good luck !

sorry folks these photos are too big, don't know how to resize down, i've been having probs linking urls from the 'gram, I've got a little choice spot above the skull. i actually think i might blast over the nonsensical skull. who knows what yet. and here's the wraparound OllieXXX whale in better view:

this is my project for next season (winter) i'm going to tile in some background in and behind the frog...perhaps some overlapping matrix of black and red spider webs. I don't know about the other side (inner thigh), its my last major space for a big tattooo. Something with fire, crazy colours, the weirder the better.

Palm/Lightning Bolt are 12years old, Turtle is 11, Shark is 7, Octopus is 6 ... :) it's almost time to start thinking about filling in those open spots on the back of the calf. blast in solid bright-ass yellow in the bad brains bolt. maybe a mini-beach scene inside the palm tree. likely going to blast over the red-yellow rising sun. also thinking of getting the turtle redone (by the same tattooer Miles Kanne) in the next few years. I'm keeping the blue water, how Y2K-Canadian of me

hey there welcome! the thigh is pretty manageable pain-wise for a tattoo. certain spots like closer to the knee, towards the butt and inside will be a bit tender. But a 5x6" tattoo is a pretty easy one-shot sit. have you considered going bigger? the thigh is a great spot for big full tattoo. also, colour does NOT hurt more than black and grey, a common misconception. its not the ink that makes it hurt, it's the needles penetrating the skin. lines will feel much sharper than shading which uses a a larger, spread out needle cluster. I do suppose it takes a few more passes to really pack in colour ink into the skin vs soft passes of certain grey shading. it all hurts like a son of a bitch, anyone who says otherwise is lying!

hey bud welcome aboard only thing i could think of is add colour to the thorns/leaves (which might look wired without colouring the CoA on the front of the arm OR add colour highlights to the arrow heads/tails. it looks fine ! my $0.02 is just leave as is, it will make a mess of things if you try to change or coverup minor details. don't overthink it, it's just a tattoo, get some other tattoos. cheers

@omeletta get those cranes on your arm and then we will be tattoo twins on the reggae keys haha

hey there welcome aboard. yikes could be the photo but your tattoo looks faded, very scabby and irritated. nothing you can do now, just let your body do its thing and heal itself, try not to stress out. healing can take a couple weeks (superficially) to heal but usually at least 6 weeks before it is healed inside/out. hopefully it will be fine for you. the only time i've had heals look that rough and scabbed were on my hands which are notorious for being difficult to heal. i wouldn't expect a bicep to look like that unless the skin got overworked. be careful in thailand with sun exposure with a fresh tattoo. I would be straight up covering it with clothing and not putting too much sunscreen, especially if it looks like that. it may irritate further.

I'm holding out for a trip to Liberty Tattoo (Seattle) in July. Probably get something small. A friend has picked up a bunch of pieces from Jake that turned out really strong. Also like Trevor Taylors stuff. So will see what strikes me for a walk-in. Other than that I'm holding out until the fall ... want to do a bunch of swimming and sunburnin', it's tattoo off-season right now !
