Thanks @hogg. I am quite pleased with the outcome. In my case, the lasering didn't eliminate design obstacles - but it greatly minimized the amount of darkness needed for hiding. Opened up a lot of options for the cover.
Promised the tattooist (Randy Muller) that I wouldn't post any in-progress pictures - and after 7-8 sessions it was finished late Sept and now is fully healed:

We've got a couple of good threads on here about coverups and laser treatments. I got great results on just 4 sessions. Trick will be finding the right operator.

Anything abstract has a smaller following, regardless of the medium. Nothing wrong with trash polka style - just not as easy for many people to connect with.
I don't have time to re-research it, but I do remember seeing something I liked from a Philipino guy on "blackworkers" instagram during the last week or so.
