  1. In the last 2-3 years, this is the 1st time I personally remember anyone asking about Vietnam. My niece got a nice black/grey in Thailand, but we only learned about it after it was done, and I don't know what kind of shop (if any) it was done in.
  2. @littlefox1970 Sorry for the misunderstanding - but my quote of the word professional was for the OP. I don't have any problem with white on black. Often is the best course of action and it can look great, obviously.
  3. Wow. Sorry, but "professional" only means that they get paid.
  4. I wouldn't consider mandalas to be American Traditional. Can't remember ever seeing any Sailor Jerry examples :)
  5. guess that depends on your definition of art work. Reproduction is one art. Creating is another. The ability to apply ink under skin is a 3rd art. To me, from what can be discerned from internet photos, it looks like the 2 choices you provided have a handle on at least 2 of those arts.
  6. How far is Edmunton from you? http://www.sinistersamstorey.com/tattoos
  7. Sorry, no input on Vietnam tattooists, but I don't really see any American Traditional tattoos on Saigon Ink's site . . .
  8. Welcome, and good for you - doing your research. Both Sunny and Eric appear to be pretty good at black and grey photo realism, so they could probably do a decent job at reproducing a photo of a plague doctor for you. Theresa, on the other hand, is one of the best straight up artists who creates her own compositions. Not sure the other 2 might be able to pull that half of the feat off.
  9. lemme know if you end up spending some time in New Orleans!
  10. Sorry - no technical info is discussed on this forum. Kindly read the rules under the Guidelines tab.
  11. The clock is the boldest part of that work. If you cover it the middle of the tattoo is going to be 10 times darker than the rose and dove. Personally, I never would have picked up on the number placement.

  15. Lasering is much more expensive than good tattooing.
  16. It will be important that whatever artist you choose has some experience in cover-ups. That blue peony picture you just posted has elements about it that would assist in a cover-up (black outlines and more options for shading deeper into the flower). Don't be in a hurry. Spend some time on the forum here learning about styles and what makes a good tattoo good.
  17. Part of the answer depends on what style of tattoo you want to end up with. The 1st one appears (from the pictures, at least) to end up with darker blacks, so he/she might be getting the ink in where it will stay for a long time - but on the other hand there were a couple of photos there that aren't so good, imho.
  18. 2nd question = depends on the artist. Some hate it when the client doesn't know what they want. 1st question = shape can be adjusted by adding background/etc. Pick an object that speaks to you.
