1961 Life magazine article on NYC tattoo ban
Avery Taylor replied to hogg's topic in Tattoo TV Shows, Documentaries and Media
Hardy Marks Publications and Don Ed Hardy Archive - Books and artwork from tattoo legend Don Ed Hardy Hardymarks just reissued this book. It is a good one, and at $30 nearly impossible to pass up. Mine is already on order. -
Perfect.

I missed this post. I read that book a few months ago and loved it. The writer is Canadian and mutual friends with some friends of mine. They gave me the book, and I read it in a couple of days. I am pretty sure that John C. Reilly bought the film rights to it so you should expect to see it as a movie.

When are you starting this? I really like Dave's tattoos. He does guest spots in Vancouver on occasion, but I have not been able to get tattooed by him yet. I am hoping to the next time he is in town.

Los Angeles and San Francisco LSTers
Avery Taylor replied to Iwar's topic in LST Get Togethers & Tattoo Conventions
I lived about a block away from where Dark Horse is now located. I really loved that area when I lived there, but that was thirteen years ago. I am sure it has changed a little, but I think most of my old hangout spots are still around. They are all bars so if you are not a drinker then this list will be useless to you. Sorry about that. All of them should be walking distance from where you are staying, and that is a hard thing to find in LA. Here goes: Good Luck Bar, The Dresden Room, Tiki Ti, Ye Rustic Inn, and last but definitely not least Jumbo's Clown Room. Jumbo's is a strip club. I do not know nor have I ever spent much time in strip clubs. Jumbo's is less of a strip club and more of an Los Angeles style roadhouse, and a legendary piece of Hollywood. If you decide to venture out into other neighborhoods I recommend The Prince in Koreatown, and Jones in Hollywood. I hope this helps. -

I don't live in LA anymore, but I have a ton of recommendations for you. Do you know what part of LA you will be staying in? -
Good B&G Portrait artist in Seattle Area?

Marco Hernandez in Olympia WA. He owns Lit Fuse, and is the best black and grey around. Portraits or anything else. -
Who do you think deserves some recognition?

I really like Sean Baltzell's tattooing. .@seanbaltzell_tct (seanbaltzell_tct) 's Instagram photos | Webstagram - the best Instagram viewer -
Matt started this tattoo last weekend. Pretty much every other tattoo that you can half see in the photo is by Matt as well. Sorry it is showing up sideways, but I am absolute shit with a computer.

It is good to see someone talking up Vinse. He is a great tattooer and a great dude. I just got my ninth tattoo from that dude last weekend.

It is good to get his name back in the mix. Names tend to get lost in this thread so its good to get them in here a couple of times. -

Frank William is really blowing my mind with the stuff he is posting on Instagram. -
Dave that is Matt Arriola's work.
-
Glad to hear you had such a great experience. Matt is a good dude, and the spider is killer.

Good luck man. I hope for a speedy recovery, and a nice return trip to Maui.

Luckily for me I will be getting my ribs tattooed the same day. It should help with perspective.

Anything even close to my knee has sucked. I have been dreading getting my knees tattooed, but I am gonna get it over with in a couple of weeks.
-
I think that Ben Grillo has one of these as well. I love them.

If the tattoo is wrapped by the tattooer that is the last time anything happens to it. I have never had much problem healing, but I am getting my knee tattooed in a three weeks so we'll see how that goes. Actually I'm getting my knee and my ribs tattooed on the same day. I am an idiot.

Patton Oswalt | A CLOSED LETTER TO MYSELF ABOUT THIEVERY, HECKLING AND RAPE JOKES I think that this sums up my feelings on this subject. Comedy, tattoos, music, houses, or what the fuck ever you are trying to create. -
I don't have anything else from Chris. He started the show, and spent less and less time in Los Angeles. We had plans to do a dragon on the other arm, but I was traveling a lot at the time, and between his travels and mine it was impossible to start such a big piece. Chris's cobras and skulls are some of my favourites. You can't go wrong with that combination from him.
