You Can't Spell - And It Matters
Colored Guy replied to blujax01's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Dunno... it may be the latest tattoo trend and we're just catching onto it. Most people, their spelling sucks anyway and mine is getting worse. -
Unless you really know the shop, (and they know you) they may be wary of not being able to fill that spot of time. Loss of revenue for the artist as well as the shop. And it sure hurts your creds as a client... hence a substantial deposit request. If you can do both appointments, that would be cool and you get a lot done quicker. I'm bouncing back and forth between both arms right now with appointments deep into March. And I know how much it hurts.

Most painful spot to get tattooed
Colored Guy replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I had the rotary too, deceptively quiet little bastard... probably with a substantial liner for the black shading. No single needle here. And the artist was making sure she worked enough color in.- 1,060 replies

My hand took about a month to totally heal up. Those bites are no joke, what did the vet do for treatment?

Most painful spot to get tattooed
Colored Guy replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
The inside of both wrists and feet, totally tolerable for me. I've had odd small spots here and there that were pure fire though, like my chest and outer bicep.- 1,060 replies

All the best. The damage depends on how much venom gets into the bite. On my 1st spider encounter, it was high up on my forehead and mostly raised up and left a dark brown spot the size of a quarter for a few months. I did go to the doctor and she gave me a tetanus and steroid shot and a round of antibiotics.

I may have posted this elsewhere here. I was 22 and married for about a year. I had a few things in mind and wound up at S&W Tattoo in Amityville, NY on a Saturday evening. I was with my wife and we selected one off the wall, 2 hearts with a banner and arrow through them (or course with our names in the banner... the kiss of death for sure..). It came out real nice and the colors were good. Fast forward to when I was 23.. maybe 15 months after the OG job. I haggled with Stanley to black-out my ex-wife's name. He wanted $6, I offered $4 and he took it. I'll have to see if someone has a picture of it, now it's 2 layers down in cover ups.

I really can't sit for more than 3 hours unless I am heavily medicated, but in the last month I've done two 4-hour sessions and managed to be able to drive home.

Most painful spot to get tattooed
Colored Guy replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I go in today for another 3 hour session on my tiger head, inside of the arm of course. Saw the artist last night and she commented on how well I did on the 2 prior 4 hour sessions. The last time there was another guy having his ribs done and he tapped out.- 1,060 replies

I got bit by one or a similar spider over the summer. I got an old car shipped in from Denver and the whole bottom of the car was spider nests. Got bit on the right hand just behind the knuckles. I had 2 minor holes on my hand and 1 on the index finger that burned like hell and itched for a few days. I had a much worse spider bite around 2006 or so. Hope the dog feels better soon.

Oh yeah... you guys got boned with the Snow Powerball this year... think we're up to a total accumulation around 40" so far this season. We had the 20" in one shot last month. Glad as hell that I have a big snow blower to help me dig out. -

Hands down for me too... real tender white meat. My chest, nah, back, nah but this took the cake and I get to go back for more in 2 days and 2 weeks later for the other side.- 1,060 replies

In this thread, we commiserate about healing our fresh tattoos.
Colored Guy replied to Pugilist's topic in Tattoo After Care
I have 2 similar fresh tattoos, both on the inside of the upper arm. Both have irritations from the seam on my dress shirts. The first one done, the scab is off but the one from last week has a scab in the same place. It looks like it will be okay. -
The seeming decline of "street shop" tattoo parlors
Colored Guy replied to cltattooing's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
People are influenced by what they see on TV. There people walk into a shop, hand the artist something scribbled on a beer coaster, the artist says, okay.. give me 5 minutes to draw it up. The client sits and waits, the artist comes out with a sketch... client goes wow... and the tattoo is complete before the first commercial. So everyone wants something unique to them. I've had 5 flash pieces put on me over the years and I've never ever seen anyone else with the same thing on them. -
My music is okay, but the shop plays their ipod. It always seems to play something totally jarring when I am at my worst during the session... gets louder although nobody has turned it it. At that point I don't care if the artist is doing portraits of Nixon on me.

This is how I get after a few hours. Nothing was really working for me to control the pain, but I never flinched. And it still hurts today after my 3.5 hours last night. The music was too loud and not what I would listen to anyway. The area was on the back side of my upper arm going into the armpit.

The seeming decline of "street shop" tattoo parlors
Colored Guy replied to cltattooing's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Back in the day, if you wanted a tattoo right on the spot, you had to settle on something from off the wall. Shops were so busy on Fridays & Saturdays that if you hesitated, the chair would be yanked right out from under your ass. -
Do you have multiple tattoos of the same design?
Colored Guy replied to BrookR70's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I have 2 kois, 1 on my chest and 1 in my forearm. So people rarely see both of them at the same time unless I'm at the beach. I have 1 dragon head on my chest but definitely want a complete dragon on me as well. I saw a guy last night when I was in the chair, he had skulls all over him. -
Breathing makes a difference in pain tolerance. My last appointment, I tried to be as comfortable as possible. I brought in a neck pillow from home and it was a huge help.

Always try to straighten it out within the shop that did the tattoo. Some shops make a living fixing other shop's tattoo work, some don't like to do it.

I'm pushing 60 and got back into tattoos in 2005. My last one prior to that was in 1982. I've had all my old work redone or covered up. Now everything will be new work only with some touch up of old work. Tattoos get beat up in time, so I'm glad I've gone this way with what I'm doing. Plans for 2015 is to have my left arm sleeve DONE and upper right arm completely done as well. The forearm can wait until the fall or go into 2016.

How did people get tattoos before the internet?
Colored Guy replied to Graeme's topic in Tattoo Advice
Tattoos were only available in boxes of Cracker Jacks, lick 'em and stick 'em. The cool people always had theirs on straight. I'd get my mom to buy one of those multiple packs and save up the tattoos so I could put them on all at once. -
Most painful spot to get tattooed
Colored Guy replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Found my most painful spot last night. Upper inner arm towards the armpit. And of course there was a shit-ton of black shading going on.- 1,060 replies

That's where my cut off point is, although I rarely wear a watch. I have to be careful of my sleeves pulling up and don't wear shirts that are too light and can be seen through.

I sat for 4 hours last night having an oriental style tiger head put on my right upper arm, on the inside. This was by Tori at Studio 69 in Ronkonkoma NY. The outline and shading is done as well as some color. I'll post up a picture as soon as I have one, gotta check their FB page later.
