  1. That sums up what I do for a living. Most of it is flat-out boring as hell with office politics mixed in. Did I mention working for someone that makes a lot of wrong decisions? I make damn sure I don't associate with anyone I work with and I skip 99% of the off-hours functions. Rob
  2. I'm like the proverbial rock for the 1st 2.5 hours... I take a break when the artist needs one. Real late in the tattoo... many short breaks come into play. Just a 10-second breather and I'm good for a few more minutes. Rob
  3. Panther on one side... satanic star on the other side, or go home. Rob
  4. Any female applicant 38DD and up... I hire her on the spot if she shows up in a tube top. Keep her around just for the jiggle factor. Rob - - - Updated - - - Jeez... one of my vendors has an employee that did the guy-to-girl thing recently. The vendor had to get on board with the whole deal, counseling for the other workers (on the clock...) as well. It was part of the medical insurance he supplied the employees. I've known the person in question for maybe 10 years and the scary part... she/he is pretty passable as a female... yikes, would not plow though. Rob - - - Updated - - - When I buy shirts, I take a good look at them to make my ink won't show through the fabric. White shirts are outski... gotta be careful with the light colored stripes too. Oxfords have good coverage in all colors. You're right, let your co-workers know as little as possible about your off-work life. This goes for politics as well. Rob
  5. I've seen plenty of people wander into tattoo shops and they have no idea what they want and go into sticker shock when rates are discussed. Then they walk out, "maybe I'll stop in next week".. and they never come back again. So there are a lot of chain-yankers to deal with in the trade. - - - Updated - - - True on the drawing thing. My last tattoo session, I had done the drawings myself so I just showed up with the artwork, slapped my ass in the chair and the ink started flowing. Other times, I made sure to let them know I'd be there a week ahead of my appt to go over the sketches. Rob
  6. I have one piercing and may want to get some more. Most of what I see I like on people, although less is more. I like that it can be discussed on a civilized forum like this one. Rob - - - Updated - - - All the ones I know (piercers or tattoo artists) don't mix the 2 disciplines. Rob
  7. Per his FB page, he's Bo Huff's grandson... Bo is one of the leading custom car builders in the US. Rob
  8. I now break up the big tattoos into 2 sessions, still sittin' in the chair for 3 hours at a clip.... I start out talkative and joking around, get quieter as the session rolls on and am practically catatonic at the end. I have one coming up later this year that will have to be 3 sessions. Rob
  9. People from work usually shti themselves when they see me on the beach in the summer, or at the gym. Then from then on, they treat me weird.. screw 'em if they can't take a joke. I went in the order, forearm, biceps, back to the forearm, chest, back to the forearms again... with foot, leg and back tattoos thrown in at random times. I feel it has to be balanced out from left to right.. can't be fallin' over. Rob - - - Updated - - - I keep mine covered at work, so the shirt line has to be observed until I retire. Then a neck and hand tattoo are going to be a must. Definitely sets you apart at that point. Nice ink, BTW. Rob
  10. When they ask me if it hurt... the standard answer is, "no.. it was an iron-on". That stops them sometimes. I really never give out what they cost unless they are thinkin' about using the shop I go to. Most people who ask are generally cheapskates. You can tell them it cost $20 and they'd still want it done for $10. Rob
  11. The whole deal takes a toll on the body and mind. I've gone 3 hours of actual ink time give or take and that's my limit especially with the back injury. I can only pop so many pain pills and drive home safely. A lot of it is up to what the artist is comfortable doing. On my chest work, one side.. I hit the virtual wall with the pain involved at the 2.5 hour mark... chewed on my belt so she could finish it up. Rob
  12. My right leg heals slower due to the gun shot wound... even mosquito bites heal slow. The one from May on my left lower leg, this healed like a dream. Rob - - - Updated - - - All done in one shot? Looks really good though. Rob
  13. For the drama angle, they gotta throw in a clinker or two and beat the crap out of them and eventually they get cut. I feel the judges should have some say regarding a bad design before it gets inked on someone. I like pinups in general, again some of these artists need a little help. Any real shop will bounce ideas off other artists when they need another opinion. Rob
  14. Kinda like bare-backin' a bunch of Craigslist 'hos that have the clap... but by the 3rd show or so, you KNOW which one has the clap. From there, it all comes down to the luck of the draw. Rob
  15. I was rummaging through the 'fridge the other day and came across an "almost pale ale", Magic Hat. One of my kids brought it home and it was quite good. Anyone ever try it? Rob
  16. Most people don't appreciate barnyard art... was thinkin' of getting maybe a "lambscape" done at some point. Rob
  17. If they can tolerate my drunken postings and "medicated" ramblings, you're doing just fine. Don't be a stranger. Rob
  18. My artist mentioned that butterflies go with the fu-dog she's freshening up for me... so I may wind up with 1 or 2 of them before too long. My standard answer to "how much did it cost" is, if you have to ask, you can't afford it. If you're colored folk like me, then you get a straight answer. I really have no idea how much my tattoo work is before I get it... I just sit in the chair and settle up when the session is over. As far as meaning goes, its these shitass-drama TV shows that puts the asinine question in the mind of the mindless. I like the art, first and foremost. If they can't digest that, then TFB for them. Rob
  19. I tell my kids that... get jobs where they deal with sick, bad or dead people. That shit never goes out of style. But do they listen? Nooooooo.... Rob
  20. I have one foot tattoo already, a small lizard. Definitely looking to get the other one done as fill in work. Rob
  21. One guy I went to HS with... we went to the same college and he did the mortuary science thing. He owns 2 funeral homes.. doing very well. I could have gotten into the trade myself, still kicking myself in the ass.... Rob - - - Updated - - - Nah... its all about the shtiload of phone calls the superintendent would be getting from the small percentage of pissy stick up the ass parents... plain and simple. Rob
  22. Might be easy to cover up..... one thing goin' for it. Rob - - - Updated - - - Depp and Charles Manson in the same shot... gnarly.... didn't realize Charlie was up for parole.... Rob
  23. The big problem that trees are weakened from the hurricane, get the ground soaked and all the ones that should have gone down last week will come down in this one. Looks nice out so far... was 24* here this morning and people with devastated houses that are living in them still. Rob
  24. It looks like a good shop to me. El Gerome does some very nice portrait work. Dennis seems to do good all around work. I would stick with the same artist for all the work and would probably use Dennis. 1/2 the thing is how happy you are with the artwork before you sit in the chair. If there is anything you don't like and want changed, have it done before he cuts a stencil. Geo Rogers... his dragon head is superb, not your thing but I had to mention it. Rob
